Won't buy it. Mine has already broken three times plus the Dvd tray won't work now and I've had it back less than a month. Bought the two year extended warranty and I am absolutely positive they will have to replace this machine again because I haven't had one last past 8mos. yet. Love the games but this system REALLY HAS AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF PROBLEMS!!!!

They aren't going with matte finish on the Elite? Interesting. Must be the shiny red ring of death that's so tempting.

Truthfully I won't buy one because I have a preminum. I give it three months till they drop the elite price down to the $400.

The Elite has the same problem as the PS3, it's more money than most people want to spend on a videogame console.

what a shocker.

So you mean that gamers that likely already own a 360 aren't really interested in the new "elite" 360. I can't believe someone wouldn't be intersted in buying something that they already own. This is just ridiculous. I mean, people are less interested in purchasing something that they already own. MS is screwed.

I wonder how many gamers were intersted in purchasing the Slim PS2 when it was released just because it had a built-in network adapter. I guarantee you that more gamers were interested in getting a PS2 before it launched than prior to it's revision.

This survey/story is a joke. It takes something that is common sense and attempts to turn that into "negative press" for the new 360.

No, I actually won't be buying one because I don't need a bigger hard drive or HDMI. The premium version is perfect enough for me. Now stop speaking for those of us who literally don't want this thing and won't be buying it.

This is all very nice, but let's make a comparison, shall we?

There is gas, PS3s and Xbox 360s.

People will buy gas even if it's at an outrageous price. Yes, people will bitch and moan, but you will still buy it.

People will buy PS3s, and why? Because they will. Because of the name and games that they've grown to love. They will bitch at moan at the price, as I have (and haven't bought one, and won't), but will buy one anyways.

People WILL buy the 360 Elite, and why? Because they just will, despite the bitching and moaning about the pricing. They want the games and the extra features.

Analysts need to cram a pineapple up their cramhole and take a look at basic economy. People can bitch an moan all they want, but people will still buy stuff despite their feeble complaining.

I don't think there will be enough demand to command $715+ for these when they launch which is what you would have to sell it for to make a decent profit on ebay after fees. In the meantime you'll be wasting the time you spent to buy it, the time (and money) to list it on ebay, and the waste of time to return it.

Time is money

Because my car runs on it, and I need it to get to my job in order to earn money to live.

In much the same way, I will still buy food even if it's only available at exorbitant prices, because I don't like starving to death.

I preordered online, while at work, so I didn't waste any time ordering it, besides time I was being paid for already, and I don't plan to list it until it is out and I'll see if there is any profit being made, if not, I'll just drive up to my local CC and return it.

No money lost.

i honestly think forums had a lot to do with the lackluster worldwide sales of the PS3. word just gets around too fast and easy. i expect the same with the Elite.

major publications often look to the Leet for their own opinions..

I understand your concept, but keep in mind... as I said... I preordered it at work, which I was getting paid for at the time.

I havn't listed it on ebay yet so I have no fees with it.

If I don't see me making any money, I can return it for free. It costs me nothing to return the system to Circuit City the next time I buy a CD there.

Victory.

I do agree that the reception for the elite, for all the desired features its bringing to the table, is rather lukeworm (I'm opposed to the concept on the surface, but for people buying a NEW 360 at this time, it's a fair deal, just feels like they're giving the shaft to loyal early adopters)

but i digress... My point is that if you could gauge the games industry by what appeared on forums, first off the 5th generation war should've gone like this:
Saturn < N64 < PlayStation
NiGHTS would be at least triple platinum
Okami would also have been a rabid multi-million seller
The PS3 wouldn't have sold about 1/4 of what it did
And Nintendo would have lost any and all sales as soon as they announced the name Wii...

I don't have a 360 yet. In a couple of months, I will have a TV that can make the most of one... and provided a few more appealing games come out for the system, I may consider it.

The Elite pack seems like a better deal, so I'd go for that.

It's because the thing should have been priced at $400. The 360 has been out for like 18 months. It's time for a price drop. Instead they raise the price of the 360.

I would have bought an elite to replace my current 360 in a second if it cost $400. Stupid MS, now the 360 is only $20 cheaper than the PS3.

@35, Dale. Finally, someone here gets it. This is for NEW 360 owners primarily. It offers a better value, imo, than the $400 premium. I prefer black, HDMI is nice, and the 120GB HDD will come in handy when IPTV comes to the 360.

With that said, I won't be upgrading. Those things aren't worth $480 to me. It also isn't going to make me enjoy my 360 less or play it less knowing that others have a more expensive version than me. I am comfortable with the size of my 360 HDD and don't envy a black one.

@36, Hoffer. I agree with you. The 360 is still selling well but they could reduce the Premium to $300 and take less hit than their launch 360s did. It would also be a crushing blow to Sony and make 360s sell like hotcakes.

But they won't do it and I will tell you why. (this is all my personal theory). I know three people that will get a 360 when Halo3 drops. There is no question that they will get one. There is no debate or price drop needed. They are Halo nuts. They are also the types of people that won't buy that many other games. MS wants to launch Halo3 and get all those no-other-game-buying nuts to pay enough for the hardware that MS doesn't lose its arse on them with a mad price drop.

Seriously, I know 3 people in that Halo3 boat and only personally know about 8 with 360's already. I bet Halo3 moves a million+ consoles for previous xbox owners that haven't updated on top of whatever MS would have sold anyways.

Bravo, Jake. I think you hit the nail right on the head. For too many users, this is a matter of a $480 upgrade, not simply an $80 upgrade - right now, they're selling to the "Halo 3" and the "money's not an issue, so I am going to give my $400 console to my cousins and spend another $480 on a new one" crowd.

BTW Zertoss (#21) I hope you are my cousin. And if you are, your post didn't ruin the surprise.

Not to those bitching and complaining about the new XBOX 360 Elite. You don't have to buy one, and also if you own a 360 you don't necessarily have to upgrade. So just chill, relax, and let those who want purchase just do it without unnecessary criticism.

Unlike many of you who sound like someone ran over your cat when the subject of the Elite is brought up, I think this is a smart decision on Microsoft's part.
A. I have two potential buyers amongst my friends for my premium pack. I am probably going to get $250 or more for my unit, and then I will use the rest to buy the Elite.

B. Another of my friends is now super excited to pluck money down for a 360 now because he thinks the Elite is all that and a bag of chips.

C. Microsoft has introduced a model that they think will gain the swing group of consumers who were contemplating the purchase of a PS3 because it had HDMI and a larger hard drive.

In the end its a win-win for everyone. You will have a subset of consumers out there who will be able to purchase a 360 at a reduced price, and Microsoft will enjoy all the after market purchases from this subset, you will have another subset upgrading an enhanced version of a 360, and then you will have another subset of consumers who rather than buying a PS3 will settle on the 360 due to its new bells and whistles. Smart move, you will see.

(I am selling my 360 w/ an extended warranty too. lol)

@ 40 it is a stupid move by MS, instead of driving a real wedge between the price of the PS3 and their system, they are actually moving toward it....if anything it shows the value of the PS3 system, and they are fighting the battle on Sony's terms. Does it contain built in wireless functionality and HD-DVD? add those things and then see how it compares in price to a PS3...except of course PS3 has Blu Ray which isn't a redundant format as HD DVD will soon be.

Bad bad move by MS. I own a 360.

Yea, if anything they should have just released the 120 GB drive separately and waited until the redesign for the HDMI. I guess it cant really hurt, because you can always buy the premium or core. PS3 had a good idea making their harddrives upgradable with standard pc models, though.

I am planning on buying a Elite when it comes out even though it is only $20 cheaper than ps3 because I protest sony and everything they make. I currently own a Wii and love it. But the only problems is there are not many games out yet and there is practicly no multi-media capabilities. Does anyone know when the IPTV is comeing to 360?
