How does this relate to Atari and the game crash?

It seems like BS to me.
True, Activision owns GH now, but the guys behind it are not allowed to use the knowledge they obtained during its development after leaving the company?

That's typical of most development companies. Employees do not own anything they do while working for them and cannot compete or use anything against them after leaving (because of their contract).

Exactly, conio

But i suppose power always corrupts, and Activision is no exception

But as Activision alienates original Red Octane developers, will Guitar Hero retain its glory?

Only time will tell

Standard fare when leaving a developer. All your assets are belong to us!!! :teef: Most contracts will also state that you can't work on anything similar that might be potential competition for 6-12 months after leaving...

It's called a Non-Compete clause. You're not allowed to use any knowledge acquired during your employment about a specific genre/title towards development of a new IP or with another company.

Normally, you're locked from working within the industry for a specified amount of time, but I'm sure developers everywhere are getting around that due to that being their trained profession, etc.

god old america.

This has got to be the only place on earth where you can sue someone for using the knowledge that they learned.

What a crock.

Activision, don't be like EA. Gamers hate them for the exact kind of bullshit that has been described here. Of course, I'm beginning to notice that companies do this kind of stuff because they are run by MBA toting snooty business types, not gamers.

Afterall, it's not like the Guitar controller is some great mystery. It's made of standard conroller parts that have been around for ages. With the exception of the accelerometer for Star Power a Guitar Hero controller contains no technology that is less than 30 some odd years old.
