Wii goes online with Mario Strikers Charged
Move over, Pokemon. Another Wii game is receiving the Wi-Fi Connection treatment: Mario Strikers Charged. The world's favorite sport can now be played virtually by players all over the globe. A Mario-themed World Cup now seems inevitable.
According to the UK official site, "Players can also utilise Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to take on players from across the globe! Multiplayer modes include Ranked mode where players can compete to climb up leaderboards and Unranked mode where they can quickly select and play friends."
Charged hits UK Wii systems on May 25th. Unfortunately, a US release hasn't been announced yet.

Online....if you can find someone who also plays and remember their insanely long friend code!
grey @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:11AM
just... wow?
Diskoboy @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:01AM
God dammit, Nintendo..... New console, same shitty games. I'm so sick of Mario, Luigi, Wario, Zelda, Diddy/Donkey Kong, and Princess Peach, I could scream. For the love of god, come up with some new IP's, already.
Will you PLEASE quit making the same kart, sports, kiddie games, etc., over and over again??? There are gamers over 15, out there, you know.
Seriously considering selling my Wii.
Loore @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:14AM
Why dont they just call this Mario Strikers 1.25? Its the same game you played on the GC with the goalie mini-game and some waggle controls tacks. It even looks exactly the same.
And, what does waving a stick have anything to so with football?
Intentless @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:07AM
Actually for someone that is the above 20 crowd... These "rehashes" are refreshing... So sit down and shut up...
J @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:10AM
Uuhhh.... Diskoboy, I think maybe you are looking for Project H.A.M.M.E.R and Disaster Day of Crisis.
ConstyXIV @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:08AM
No fair! The UK gets both soccer AND online play before us (USA)!

Welcome to the year 2000 Nintendo
Matt @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:12AM
Yeah Nintendo!
Quit makin' all these HOORIBEL gmaez lik MARIO GOLF, and MARIO TENNIS, and MARIO SUNSHINE, MARIO KART DS, and NEW SUPER MARIO BROS., and...
Oh wait...
I'm an idiot.
Steve @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:16AM
My nephews were playing this mindless game on my GCN last summer. I was on my PC at the time and this game drove me crazy because every 15 seconds he was performing one of those cinematic super moves that was identical to every single one that he did prior to that.
The dull and mindless nature of eurosport makes it a perfect game for kids because it's easy for them to figure out and it wears them out, but as a video game the disadvantages of this activity become incredibly apparent.
I agree with Diskoboy. It's time for Nintendo to produce some real games because I'm tired of all these damn shallow and/or minigame titles. If Nintendo can't make real games with the wiimote then how can we expect 3rd parties to do so?
Jack of No Trades @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:19AM
All you ask for is some new IP's from Nintendo and the fanbase throws rocks. Mario & Zelda's character is getting really old and boring.
Change it up a bit Nintendo. Your not afraid of releasing a console with a new way to control games, but your afriad of designing new IP's? Stop milking these nostalgic memories you cheap ass company.
JodyAnthony @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:19AM
I hope nintendo never makes a new IP out of spite for diskoboy.
vidGuy @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:21AM
Before anybody starts complaining about friend codes:
Strikers Charged, like most (all) online games for DS and Wii, will allow you to play online matches against random opponents without the use of friend codes. If you want to play somebody specifically, say your cousin in Michigan, you need his friend code.
The friend code system does stifle the online play, IMO, but it doesn't kill it.
At Diskoboy, yes, because WarioWare on the Wii is the same on the GC, Super Paper Mario is exactly the same as Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Super Mario Galaxy is the same as Super Mario Sunshine, Zelda: Twilight Princess is the same as Wind Waker, etc. **Rolls eyes**
Jack of No Trades @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:21AM
"I hope nintendo never makes a new IP"
They won't. They lost thier creativity back in 1985.
vidGuy @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:22AM
New IPs coming:
Project H.A.M.M.E.R.
Disaster: Day of Crisis
a few more have been hinted at
last few years:
Pikmin
Nintendogs
Animal Crossing
Unit @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:23AM
funny how those "shitty" mario games are always good games regardless of who's in it.I would be upset too that they keep making games with mario and crew, but the fact is they're never"shitty" and are able to hold their own.
^FourthDimensionGod^ @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:23AM
Wow another Mario game........how fudge packingly lame
now the thin skinned nintendo fan(lady)boys will acuse me of "not getting" the Wii.
Loore @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:24AM
Here's an idea.. a mature themed Zelda.. ie. link gets bad ass like Kratos.. beats the sh!t of out Mogoblins, crasy finishing moves, slaughter monkeys instead of saving them, and finally lays Zelda, etc.
Instead.. we get more hunting for Poes, digging for treasure, more cuckoo games, fighting ghost bugs, fighting ganon at the end.. lame..
And..
"Strikers Charged, like most (all) online games for DS and Wii, will allow you to play online matches against random opponents without the use of friend codes. If you want to play somebody specifically, say your cousin in Michigan, you need his friend code."
That makes no freakin sense.. so, if you see your cousin online randomly you get to play them.. but, if you want to play them specifically, you need to enter a code? Think about it.
Game Specfic Friend Codes are coming to a Wii near you.
JodyAnthony @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:28AM
now you're getting it, Loore! Trolling is like an art. This comment shows that you can in fact be clever and not just 'NINTENDO IS KIDDIE LOL'. Look to Jack of no trades for a good representation of a troll (I mean that in the most loving way, jack)
vidGuy @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:28AM
@Loore,
How's that not make any sense? It's exactly how Mario Kart DS works.
Unit @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:29AM
"Why dont they just call this Mario Strikers 1.25?"
do you know how many games should've been a 1.25 instead of a full sequel?! did you play god of war 2? he had the same exact moves, combos from part 1, or what about the ratchet and clank series, sly cooper, graw2, tomb raider? that comment you made can be applied to a number of games

Yea that would be a good idea. Maybe a badass mature version a future Mario would be cool too, but it would need to be ported to 360/PS3 to make use of the better graphics.
JodyAnthony @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:34AM
I'm just wondering, everyone that complains about nintendo in every nintendo-based comment thread, what is your motivation for doing so?
www.jodyanthony.com
Miles @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:35AM
Do you guys realize Diskoboy just asked the greatest Ip company to just make new ones? So why the hell are you guys getting so pissed ?
And Diskoboy, what the hell did you expect? Its Nintendo?
Jack of No Trades @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:35AM
@ unit
Your right every Mario/zelda game that is released is good. I agree, but the fact is that the majority of games released from Nintendo are Mario/Zelda.
All we want is more to choose from. So we buy a 360/PS3. Understand?
Dolla Dolla @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:38AM
Here's an idea:
All those complaining about rehashes, just tell the millions of people buying Mario, Zelda, and such, to stop.
There, problem-solved.
JodyAnthony @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:41AM
I especially liked Diskoboy's very thinly veiled "NINTEDNO IS TEH KIDDEA!!1" comment. Hey Diskoboy, the Sega fanboys of 1991 called, they want their argument back.

Intentless @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:45AM
Most games are Mario based... yes... but generally the games are still pretty solid... Not like the half assed glitchy crap everything else is these days.... And I wouldn't say most games are Zelda... we get one of those every 2-3 years.... granted that has been like that for the past 20 years but Halo Gears Ratchet all that is headed that way...
Neal @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:49AM
Why WOULDN'T Nintendo keep making Mario/Zelda games. Everyone likes them. Well, most people like them. They all sell millions. Its like saying "Stop making Honda Civics because they're reliable and every other person on the road drives one" Guess what. They make them because they sell and people like them.
Nintendo can make "Third Party Shooter 2" and 5 million copies will sell, or they can make another Smash Bros. Or a new Mario/Zelda game, and mostly everyone with a Wii will buy it. I don't know of anyone who has a Wii that doesn't have Twilight Princess. (I know 5 including myself)
Loore @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:52AM
"I don't know of anyone who has a Wii that doesn't have Twilight Princess. (I know 5 including myself)"
Go to Japan.. the game bombed there... they only care about WiiSports and WiiPlay.
JodyAnthony @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:53AM
way to ignore the gamecube version there, loore.
Zeruel @ Apr 3rd 2007 10:55AM
Mario Strikers is not that bad of a game when you're playing at least one other person. I'd go as far as to say that this is the NBA JAM of Soccer games. The game balance is spot on with powerups only being awarded for successful goal blocking. The only reason why #8 had to hear the super move "every 15 seconds" is because the other team's defense didn't squash the offensive charge up for the super. Performing a super takes a significant amount of time to charge (roughly 2-3 seconds) BEFORE you get to hit the super meter. Sorry #8, but it sounds like your nephews just suck at the game.
#14 hit the nail on the head. These games may have the same characters and IPs over and over again, but there's a level of polish on most of these titles that other series have yet to attain.
Now Guitar Hero on mobile phones - that's going to be horrible no matter how you change it up. Unless I can hook up a Gibson SG to my cell phone (wtf am I smoking???), GH Mobile is going to be bad imo. GH Mobile is a fine example of an IP being taken to a place that it shouldn't. But don't worry, there will be plenty of fucktards that will gladly overpay to play stupid.com/utterly_retarded.
You people just don't get gaming, it's not about "getting the Wii." Strikers embraces core gameplay mechanics that many of todays gamers fail to comprehend. They're so wrapped up in visuals and storyline that they have helped to sculpt an industry that makes boring, uninteresting games. The majority of games used to be exercises in reaction, now they're hitting buttons with no thought process or logic behind them - BUT DAMN IT SURE DO LOOK ALL PURTY!!!

Wii Play and wiisports....HMM...two first party games without mario OR zelda...wow.
SKI @ Apr 3rd 2007 11:01AM
On the Wii now or set to be released on the Wii are 25 Nintendo games, 5 have Mario in it (Warioware doesn't count), and 2 have Zelda. Mario is the main star in 2 of them, Super Paper Mario and Galaxy, and Zelda only stars in Twilight Princess.
Jack of No Trades @ Apr 3rd 2007 11:01AM
"The majority of games used to be exercises in reaction, now they're hitting buttons with no thought process or logic behind them - BUT DAMN IT SURE DO LOOK ALL PURTY!!!"
There isn't a game on the Wii or Gamecube that has a better story than Shadow of the Colossis, Okami, Gears or FF.
Also the Wii dosen't require much of an IQ to operate thats why you have old people and non-gamers on them. You just swing your arms in every direction like a fool.
Geo @ Apr 3rd 2007 11:04AM
Old people and non gamers = low IQ? Man, you're dumb.
JodyAnthony @ Apr 3rd 2007 11:05AM
wait, paper mario: the thousand year door/wind waker/twilight princess/resident evil 4/tales of symphonia/etc don't have better stories than gears of war?
Prof_Chaos @ Apr 3rd 2007 11:06AM
Why don't idiots man up and come up with a new critique of Nintendo? It's just the same rehash over and over again from the same usual suspects. Nintendo will never stop making Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon, etc games. The reason for this is that those games make Nintendo one of the top publishers in the world. Bottom line this is a business and those games make money. New IP's like Day of Crisis, H.A.M.M.E.R., Pikmin, Animal Crossing and Nintendogs will be joined by others as well. But those core games won't go away because people by them. Frankly why Nintendo would want to change their core IP's and make them similar to every other game out their is beyond me. Why would you want a gritty Zelda. Their are other games that fir that mold. Let Zelda mature without losing the innocence that makes it so engaging.
JodyAnthony @ Apr 3rd 2007 11:07AM
also paper mario: ttyd had a much better story that ffx or ffx-2, and probably ffxii, and twilight princess and wind waker both had better stories than okami (although okami was awesomely awesome)
now star ocean: till the end of time - THERE was a game with an awesome story. Best game on PS2.
Seroth @ Apr 3rd 2007 11:09AM
Do people honestly believe that the game would be better if it didn't have Mario characters in it? It'd be the same game, only it'd sell less...
Jack of No Trades @ Apr 3rd 2007 11:09AM
"wait, paper mario: the thousand year door/wind waker/twilight princess/resident evil 4/tales of symphonia/etc don't have better stories than gears of war?"
Zelda, paper mario, resident evil has the same story over and over. Trapped with zombies, rescue peach, beat gannon.
Tales of symphonia had a great story though.
Unit @ Apr 3rd 2007 11:14AM
@Jack of No Trades
"There isn't a game on the Wii or Gamecube that has a better story than Shadow of the Colossis, Okami, Gears or FF."
HAHAHA...Fire emblem says hi! just read the reviews. Wii sports had a better story than gears(eat sh!t and die) of war.
Colossis was about the gameplay, story was at the beginning and end and twilight princess had more of a story than that.
okami=zelda

I agree Diskoboy, the upcoming lineup looks boring. Mario is getting stale. I'm 28 years old and a hardcore game, and NO upcoming games interest me. Since beating Zelda and Trauma Center my Wii has been collecting dust, and I'm also seriously considering selling it while the demand is still high.
I neglected to buy the gamecube because the games were too childish, and I bought the Wii hoping for a change in direction.
JodyAnthony @ Apr 3rd 2007 11:15AM
its not always the goal though, jack, its the journey.
example: how many kids stories have been written that are 'dashing prince saves princess'? tons. but they are all about how the prince gets to his ultimate goal (and then frustratingly has to deal with chastity belts and the like)
JodyAnthony @ Apr 3rd 2007 11:17AM
ok blazur, what was childish about gamecube games? the fact that many of them were bright and colorful?
JodyAnthony @ Apr 3rd 2007 11:18AM
seriously, i want someone to go through nintendo games and point out what makes them childish. also explain what makes a game in general childish, and what makes it mature? so far all I can infer is that people are actually stupid enough to believe that colorful = childish and guns = mature.
http://www.jodyanthony.com
Jack of No Trades @ Apr 3rd 2007 11:20AM
Metal gear solid, Devil may cry and various other games have the SAME FUCKING STORY
whats your point?
No they don't. Different objectives to reach different conclusions.
Mario/Zelda might have different objectives but still have the same conclusions.
Jonathan Tran @ Apr 3rd 2007 11:21AM
As long as Metroid is online I don't think anyone here will be complaining.
An awesome FPS that isn't gory... with possibly great controls (if Nintendo botches controls for Samus gg nintendo)
oh yeah soccer
in the USA we don't even know the rules to soccer, let alone care.
