Indie PC game developer/publisher Stardock has picked up a brand-new remake of the 1986 Cinemaware smash hit Defender of the Crown. Storm enemy castles! Win jousting contests! Make out with princesses! And now, experience all these things which would never be possible for most geeks (especially that making-out part) in glorious modern graphics that look even better than the original Amiga version (but only barely). This game is so old, you can legally get it drunk!
Defender of the Crown is back, and ready for more jousting

I've had some trouble getting the old pc version to work in dosbox, but I think $19.95 is a bit too much to pay to solve that problem; prettier graphics or no.

ANOTHER one? The last remake was hardly impressive.

I had really fond memories of the Amiga version but I picked up the ps2 version and it was crap so I refuse to get too excited about this.

The original was just okay, emphasizing graphics over gameplay. Part of the success, if you look back and when it was originally released, is that it not only stood out among other games visually, it was one of the earlier games on the Amiga, which meant if you had an Amiga and you liked to play games, you were likely to have this game.
They were many ports, most of which were inferior. Only the Atari ST and Apple IIgs versions were identical.
I remember gameplay being frustrating. While it was certainly great to look at (back then), it wasn't a game that I recall wanting to play over and over again.

Bunch of haters here. The game _is_ kind of like a dumbed down, English Romance of the Three Kingdoms. It's also hellof addictive for at least a few days. If you've never played it, this version will at least spare you the awful, unskippable midi music...

I'm very excited. My brother and I used to play this endlessly as children.
Given the state of current gaming, however, I have little hope this remake will live up to my expectations.
