one more thing and then I'm done.

I got into games as an escape from reality, because reality sucked. My parents were drunks and drug addicts, and i was abused in ways many of you couldn't even begin to imagine. So I got into games to get away from that, to get away from everything serious. I would see people when I was in grade school get into huge arguments about sega vs. nintendo, but I tried to ignore it. Then I saw some kid get his nose broken by a group of nintendo fans because he said sega was better. It made me sick. Reality had come and taken my one escape away from me and turned what was some fun games into something all of a sudden just as serious as everything else, so I got out of any talking about games and just played games that I loved that took me away from all the bullshit of life.

Fast forward to about a year ago. I found joystiq and saw that while people would argue and bitch, it really didn't seem like people were serious. I thought people were just trying to have fun. I still believe people like jack of no trades or summercamp or darryl or me or whoever else only made attacks on this site as jokes to pass time from the real world, like i was trying to do. but obviously there are some of you that actually take this very seriously for some reason, just like those kids that broke the sega fans nose. so fine, turn what should be something all about fun into yet another serious topic. there really aren't enough serious things in the world, you know? I'll stay off of joystiq as much as I can. not promising that i wont be commenting anymore, but i'll let people take their stupid toys seriously and take all the fun out of gaming. I truly hope you enjoy taking all the amusement out of things like video games and joystiq, because it makes me sad. Keep taking your stupid toys seriously and acting like they actually have some effect on your life. I'll just go back to trying to have fun.

Nobody cares...

Some of us actually want to have a discussion on video games. Does that mean we all take them seriously as if our life depended on it? No. We like talking about it. Sure there are some fanboys who take it too far, but the majority of us just like gaming and the gaming culture and we would like to discuss it. You, on the other hand, are an annoying prick who likes to spam a topic with things that don't even matter. If you really didn't take this seriously you wouldn't have spent so much time trying to prove others wrong. You are a troll. Go away.

So let me get this straight.

Demand will determine the series' longevity, but not what systems it's released for?

I guess 360 owners who want to play it should be happy that the board of directors at Konami, and not a developer will ultimately make the decision.

You're almost totally right Louis S. But the thing you're missing about Jody is the liar aspect of when he posts. You see , if someone is saying disparaging words about the Wii then Jody becomes serious. He starts getting links from ign, gamespot , wikipedia etc. to back up his points and views on the argument. But on this article I called him out for being the lying hypocrite that he is and basically a troll. So all of a sudden he was ,"just joking."
He's like that guy who does something fucked up or dumb to you , and when you react to it, instead of apologizing he starts going, " Hey dude chill out, I was just playing." But if you do it to him, he's all pissed off.

i really can't understand why they wouldn't release for 360 as well if not exclusive?

first off 360 has 3x the user base of ps3. not to mention that EVERYBODY knows that 360 is the system for FPS type games. The system was designed to PWN in FPS polygon crunching unlike the ps3. lets also not forget the robust online functionality of xbox live vs. the lameness of ps3 onlines store.

kojima needs to stop gulping sips from sony's kool-aid dispenser and keep it real, you feel?

if kojama's bosses don't override his decision on this, i predict that bill gates buys out konami (or maybe squaresoft) by the end of this year to permanently lock down and steal away these 5-star franchises from the fakestation.

you heard it here first

I could be wrong, but I thought MGS was part of Kojima's studio and Konami and him just have an agreement on distribution. I don't think Konami has the pull over Kojima you guys think they do. Didn't he even happen to be the VP of Konami for a while, then decided to head up his own studio instead? I really don't think its a matter of Konami going "Port it to 360 or you are fired" That's not to say it'll never come out for the 360, anything is possible. Polar space bears could come down from the planet jupiter and take over the united states, it just isn't like due to the current facts we have and the lack of evidence supporting it.

I agree with manford and the others that said this game should be ported to 360. The more people that buy the game, the better for kojima and his team.

Considering that MGS3 sold about half as many copies as MGS2 did, MGS4 just might be the last one in the series no matter what.

Sony is going to have to push this game HARD if they want it to actually sell systems. Not Motorstorm hard. But Final Fantasy VII hard. They haven't done that in years.
They'll have to throw their own money behind the advertising, rather than let Konami fund it (I assume that's usually how it works..)

Otherwise, I think people who think this game is going to be Halo 3 HUGE or even SSBB HUGE are in for a real slap in the balls.

Ugh, the logic here is ridiculous.

By this logic, no game should ever come out for a new system because the older system all have sold way more.

Based on this incredible logic, I'm starting the "Gears of War should be on PS2" campaign. Since the PS2 has sold WAY more consoles than the Xbox 360, it only makes sense, right? Seriously, besides losing the 720 resolution (upscaled to 1080!) and realtime dynamic scrotum lighting, the game would play just as well. It seems like most Xbox owners don't even have HD TVs anyway, so they won't even notice.

Games are released based on PROJECTED SALES, not how many consoles were sold in the first 5 months. If they were, Metal Gear would be coming out for the Dreamcast.

If you are that ignorant, go take some marketing classes before you comment.

@JodyAnthony

I think Kojima is pretty much in a position where it doesn't matter how well his games do anymore and that money isn't really a deciding factor in his decisions. I've always felt he was similar to Tarintino or Rodriguez, as in he does what he wants, if it sells well great, if not he is happy with what he created.

There is an obvious financial benefit to going multiplatform regardless of whether it is x360 -> ps3/wii or ps3 -> x360/wii, but it is kinda obvious Kojima doesn't care. Kojima would rather focus all his energy using the unique features of the PS3 to make the best game he can instead of aim for a game that can be ported. I don't think it has anything to do with Kojima not liking the X360.

At the moment, I don't think he can be swayed to create a port for the X360, maybe after the game is out and he has some free time, he may decide to work on a port rather than one of the many new projects he has, but I doubt it. If any developer out there would prefer to make his games exclusive it'd be Kojima. Maybe he will make an exclusive game for the x360 instead of porting MGS4. Infact, I think its more likely for Kojima to create exclusive content for the X360/Wii, rather than release a MGS4 port at this time.

On the other side, I really seriously could careless about MGS4 being ported or not. I played it once and I personally didn't like the game. It's gonna be freakin' awesome when Microsoft buys Konami and Squaresoft (Did you hear? Square-Enix split up! They're Squaresoft again!). Man, can you imagine it? Marcus Fenix in Final Fantasy XIII! And you'll be able to buy new camouflage patterns from the XBox Live marketplace! Want urban? 50 MS points! Want to put a silencer on that gun? Only 200 points and you can shoot silently with glee! And summons for Final Fantasy? Just 1000 points! And all of the characters with guns will play the game like Gears of War 8, or even better, Halo 19!
I can't wait until Microsoft buys all the Japanese development houses! The consumer will truly win!

Could end up being like Star Trek movies, all the even numbered ones suck...

Anyway, Kojima doesn't have this level of say. The Metal Gear series is not only a Konami property (Kojima doesn't own it), it isn't the company's bread and butter. Sure, it is a nice boost in profits when a MGS title hits, but they'll do just fine without the series since it doesn't make a regular appearance. As I've stated before, Kojima hasn't done anything notable outside the MGS series (Boktai and ZoE aren't notable, regardless of personal opinion, they've not made a splash anywhere and ZoE failed enough that the series is now dead).

Also, it isn't that he loves the PS3 (he doesn't have any PS3 projects after MGS4 is done, the foreseeable projects are all on Wii or DS) it is that production of MGS4 started on the PS3 well before th3 360 launched. Had MGS4 producution started this year or late last year, the 360 would have likely been the console of choice. His studio isn't big enough to work on a multiplatform title. If Konami says MGS4 will be on the 360, it will be on the 360, wether Kojima likes it or not. We do know that MGS4 will be a PS3 exclusive, be it temporary like MGS 1 or 2 or permanent.

It isn't likely MGS4 actually needs the PS3. Since Kojima doesn't use pre-rendered video, the space limitations are unlikely to be an issue. Pre-rendered video takes up more space than any other file and if it is absent, then that saves up a large chunk of space. Everything else is roughly on-par with what the 360 is capable of.

Now, if Kojima can do something impressive with "Project S", I'll take back my one-trick pony claim.

"If users want more Metal Gear, then I will probably step up as producer, like the James Bond series does."

Ok users, stop begging the man to make more MGS games. Let it end already. The man wants to move on and make some new IPs. But he can't do that because his users are sequel/prequel fiends.

Just let the man do something else and the artist he works with.

If Kojima doesn't want to bring this game to the 360, knowing full well there's a larger audience there willing to buy the title, he's an idiot. It's that simple.

It's not him being an artist. Artist's don't care about loyalty to companies, all they care about is getting their work seen by the largest audience possible. Kojima has said publicly that MGS4 is technically possible on the 360, so this isn't a question of quality.

If Kojima really wants his work to reach the largest possible audience, multiplatform is the way to do it.

When will you retards stop bastardising the English language? its "I COULDN'T care less". THINK ABOUT IT!! you all saying you actually GIVE A DAMN if you say "I could care less". Its like saying "Well, I care" Just like "I aint done nuthin" is like saying "I havent done nothing" If you haven't done nothing it means you HAVE done something. Double negative = positive. Do they teach English in School anymore?

As for MGS4, its coming to the PS3 only, deal with it. YES THATS RIGHT YOU HAVE TO BUY A PS3 FOR 600 BIG ONES *JUST* TO PLAY MSG4.. 600 FOR ONE GAME? NO WAY.... of course ignoring all the other good reasons to own a PS3, why do people compare ONE thing at a time to justify 600 notes? Come to Denmark and try swallowing the fact that we pay $970 USD for it.

Regardless of what he wants, whoever is 'fronting' all the programmers, developers, production costs and final printing/distribution costs will have final say as to what system(s) it will be on.

Lets all get down off our high horses here people.. Its about the money. If the 'MILLIONS' invested aren't projected to be returned, then it WILL be multi-platform. Simple. If not, then the only way to re-coup said millions is to charge $120 per game to the PS3 people.

Being that the series has been dying off (less sales each 'generation') and the very high price of the console itself, its only a matter of time before its ported over.

On a side note. Thanks to everyone for showing Jody for what he really is. A di.ck. Just WOW. Talk about posting your 'blog' website every freaking thread (come look at me world, I'm a fat loser who needs attention/friends)... LOL

blu-ray may let the voices be better audio quality since they don't have to be compressed, but the entire series has established itself by the realtime cutscene.

you won't be seeing unecessary HD cinematics taking up disc space in this series.
