No Metroid Prime 3 until after June
A recent interview with Nintendo's name-taker/ass-kicker Reggie Fils-Aime revealed some disappointing (but not surprising) news. Originally scheduled as a Wii launch title, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption was pushed back to a vague "er, um, sometime around, uh, 2007" release. That was later refined to "later this year." Now, according to Fils-Aime, Metroid Prime 3 won't see the light of day until after June. And if recent pre-order rumors turn out to be true, it could be way, way after June. Why the delay? According to Reggie, both Nintendo and Metroid Prime developer Retro Studios were disappointed with the sales of Metroid Prime 2. Prime 3 has to be the best game in the series, and that level of perfection takes time.
Yes, we want Metroid now, but if it turns out as good as we've been led to believe, it'll be worth the wait.

I fully expect this to be online. Probably 4-player single-system and hopefully 8 online.
I think it would be interesting to include some MP: Hunters stages and let the new game play with DS's. I know, the probability is about 0.
Daniel @ Apr 4th 2007 2:50PM
I need to drive down Retro's HQ here in Austin and give them a piece of my mind.
"Why are you wasting time calling security on me, get back to work!"

ROKK OUTTTT
Seriously, this is probably the worst news I coulddget as I was really looking forward to it.
So begins the summer drought.
Daniel @ Apr 4th 2007 2:52PM
s256: I wouldn't expect anything if I were you.
Sure it'd be nice to have some online play, but don't be angry if they release it as single player only.
It's gonna rock either way.
Kevout @ Apr 4th 2007 3:01PM
It's all your people's fault for not buying Echoes
Is that even a sentence
Prof_Chaos @ Apr 4th 2007 3:01PM
Judging by other FPS for the Wii, I want them to take as much time as they need. Please come up with a better system. The remote seems like such a perfect fit for FPS, but they've been pretty disappointing so far.
Some online would be fantastic, but really just for replay value.
superbagman @ Apr 4th 2007 3:02PM
You know, I really disliked MP2, so if they want to take their time to make sure that MP3 isn't anything like MP2 that's ok with me.

So after I play Super Paper Mario my Wii gets to start collecting dust again for several months, sweet. I'm really starting to regret the time I spent camping for this system.

Guitar Hero is such a bad game. I can't understand why everyone likes it. It's so bad.
An as for MP3C being delayed. Good, take all the time in world. There will be other games to play until its release.
Loore @ Apr 4th 2007 3:18PM
Look for this in 2008... Galaxy, Prime, and Smash Bros. in a 6 month period.. not gonna happen. They've already spread Paper Mario and ZTP over 5 months.
Todd @ Apr 4th 2007 3:21PM
I'm so tired of game companies rushing to production their newest, or sequel, title in the hopes of milking the cash cow and caring little for improvement. In regards, I'm willing to wait for however long if the result is a better game.
PhrawzT @ Apr 4th 2007 3:24PM
Release it already! I have played all the previous Metroid games and can't wait to see how this new one handles.
Joshua @ Apr 4th 2007 3:24PM
Ooooh! Suck it baby! Yeah! (#13), the only other worthwhile game that might come out before MP3 is Galaxy.
I bought MP1 and beat it, but I never bought MP2; I only played my friend's copy of it for a while. I just never really liked the MP series. They're not my kinds of games, so I won't be getting MP3, no matter how good they make it.
Oh, and speaking of "we're going to make this game teh best evar," they said that about TP, too, and that surely wasn't teh best Zelda evar. I expect MP3 to be just like MP1 and MP2, since they're all the same.

JodyAnthony @ Apr 4th 2007 3:45PM
yes djsyndrome, because everyone only has one console. not everyone is a pathetic single-console diehard fanboy
Jake @ Apr 4th 2007 3:46PM
I am one of the few people that trusts the developers when they delay a game. Metroid is a special series to me and I don't mind waiting longer for Retro to make sure MP3 lives up to my extremely high expectations.
MP3 and Mario Galaxy are easily my two biggest reasons for owning a Wii. The thing doesn't do much for me now unless the right people are over, but when MP3 comes out I might take a day off of work.
In related news:
Neal is lame. He/she has that annoying 13 yr. old humor in every post. You don't have to defend the Wii every time a troll pokes at it.
REUYL @ Apr 4th 2007 3:46PM
Weren't we expecting a Q4 release anyway?
ZenGaijin @ Apr 4th 2007 3:48PM
@NEal
You're kinda a dick huh, why do you have to come in here and claim my system will break down thats just wrong dude. Real gamers don't care about what system someone owns they just care that the industry continues to do well.
Stop with the "ha your system will break" BS & even if it did would that make you happy in any way? No, I didn't think it would so grow up you baby.
Rubang B @ Apr 4th 2007 3:48PM
Go rent Pangya, Godfather, SSX, Elebits, Sonic, Kororinpa, or Metal Slug Anthology. No minigames, and you can spend a couple days beating each one and by the end of the month you can rent Prince of Persia, Mortal Kombat, or Super Paper Mario. And hopefully next month you can play Strikers online. There's also 70 VC games.
snapper @ Apr 4th 2007 3:58PM
Metroid, the reason I have bought all my Nintendo hardware. One of my favorite games. Loved the game play and the cool sound and music.
Joshua @ Apr 4th 2007 3:59PM
Whoa, JodyAnthony (#20), just because we own only one of the next generation consoles makes us pathetic fanboys?
I wonder if you knew that consoles cost money...Well, I'll tell you anyway that not all of us can afford to buy every console and game that ever comes out. Have you ever heard of this concept, or do you just go around throwing your money at everything you see?
bm @ Apr 4th 2007 4:07PM
I just hope to fucking God that they won't make it more linear to appease the retarded masses.
Everything else I don't care about, I just want to explore and have fun discovering shit by myself, and not be guided through some on-rails thing like what 99% of all games are these days.
NoHitHair @ Apr 4th 2007 4:07PM

You realize June is the end of the Second Quarter, and thus the end of Nintendo's first fiscal quarter
Really, what he's basically saying is a 3rd or 4th Quarter release
My money's on 3rd, because Nintendo has said that they will release the game before Super Mario Galaxy, and Galaxy has been "confirmed" for later this year
Oh, and Loore, Nintendo doesn't always space out their games. Check the release schedule for Q3/Q4 of 2002
Super Mario Sunshine, Starfox Adventures, and Metroid Prime all in the same six month period...
Although at this point, with all the 3rd party goodness coming down the pipe (NiGHTS, RE Umbrella Chronicles, No More Heroes) i actually hope Nintendo does push some stuff back...

Strikers
BWii
My Sims
RE4 Wii
BB Academy
Mario Party 8
Space Station Tycoon
DK Bongo Blast
Boogie
Dewey's adventures
Nights
Disaster
Fire Emblem
No More Heroes
Are all coming out this year, and that's not including games like SSBB, Mario Galaxy, Animal Crossing, etc.
Aex @ Apr 4th 2007 4:21PM
To be fair, after owning a 360 I've noticed the system really Isn't that loud. It's louder in comparison to the Wii and the PS3, but its no louder than the PC mine sits on top of. I'm quite happy with the X360 noise.
gamer2000 @ Apr 4th 2007 7:13PM
What was so bad about MP2?
PhrawzT @ Apr 4th 2007 4:32PM
I like my 360, and I will admit that it is slightly less loud than a jet engine.
Kevin @ Apr 4th 2007 5:02PM
If they really are making this game AMAZING by delaying it so much, then I'm for it. I have plenty of other things to keep me busy until then (School, Pokemon, MMORPG).
syco @ Apr 4th 2007 5:13PM
I don't know, I thought Metroid Prime 2 was f'ing brilliant... I was seriously worried they'd waste so much time trying to hack multiplayer onto it (for absolutely no good reason whatsoever) that they'd screw up the actual game, but I was wrong. Metroid Prime 2 should have sold at least as many copies as MP1, but... there's no accounting for tastes.
Here's hoping they actually make MP3 the best one yet. That's a pretty lofty goal...
comradetrotskii @ Apr 4th 2007 6:25PM

I would like to add that the roar of the 360 is sweet fucking relief to my ears.
Mr Khan @ Apr 4th 2007 6:25PM
@ syco
My only qualms with MP2 was frustration factor (1 boss was specifically too hard, and many had annoyingly high difficulty), and story, i felt that the story tried to incorporate "magic" into the Metroid world, which ran against the mold
Gameplay was spot on, with added Screw attack being a huge improvement
Rubang B @ Apr 4th 2007 6:38PM
I still need to pick up a $6 copy of Metroid Prime 1 and run through that. There are too many good games and alas, I am but one radical dude.
pudding @ Apr 4th 2007 6:58PM
metroid prime 3 will release november 2007. no doubt about it.
SQwilco79 @ Apr 4th 2007 8:23PM
Been a die hard metroid fan since the NES...Prime 2 was great despite what people have said...
Only issues I had were the new gun types (just give me the wave beam etc nintendo..), and the weak attempt at doubling the map by using the ol' "dark world / alter universe" trick.
Also, I felt that the pathetic inclusion of online was unnecessary. Metroid is not Bond Nintendo, please don't try and make it as such.
The screw attack was sorely missed on MP1....
Daniel @ Apr 4th 2007 9:11PM
"What was so bad about MP2?"
Ammo for beam weapons. And that wasn't really 'bad', just a hassle compared to the first game.
Ken Seang @ Apr 4th 2007 9:21PM
The reason the MP2 did not sell well is that because it came out like two weeks when Halo 2 came out!!!! It was overshadow by it, not I hope Nintendo do not make the same mistake again since Halo 3 is coming out and all...
Mikeo @ Apr 4th 2007 9:21PM
Trying to go against the likes of Halo III and the GTA IV? And that gorgeous game called Bioshock?
ANYTIME in Q3/Q4 of 2007 is a bad time to release. People WILL compare, they definitely will.
And it ain't gonna be sweet. You can't delay release of Wii titles to make them sell more, they'll sell less and look even more 2005 (not in terms of Graphics or controls, but TRUE gameplay mechanics)
Rubang B @ Apr 4th 2007 9:57PM
You can talk graphics all you want, but TRUE gameplay mechanics? What does that even mean? Yo dog your gameplay mechanics ain't that true shit. Wii be BALLIN'! Every sequel ever is coming out this Christmas, and if the industry survives, maybe we'll get some new games next year.
