Square-Enix unveils yoga lessons and gardening for the DS
Square-Enix recently announced a handful of non-games for the Nintendo DS, proving they can do more than milk the Final Fantasy franchise. What sort of winning ideas are in the pipeline? How about DS Yoga Lessons You Can Start Today, Flower-Blooming DS Gardening Lite, and Why Not Listen to Classical Music On DS?. The company is also planning a line of practical applications for the DS, such as travel guides for Italy, Hawaii and New York.If Nintendo can score a goal with a brain training game featuring a jaggy-faced Japanese scientist, who's to say these won't catch on as well? Now all we need are You Can Knit! Easy Stylus Touch Fun and Organize Your Final Fantasy Re-releases and Remakes Collection and we're set.

I'll say it before anyone else:
"WTF no Online play?!?!? NINTENLAME~!!!"

Wow, I'm sure this is just as fun as doing real yoga and gardening your own lawn.
Oh wait a sec. That doesn't sound very fun...

I always thought knitting would work better with the Wii remote/nunchuck combo...

Buy this for my girl. Maybe she will play naked.
Sarah: How do do I play baby?
Me: Put the Wiimote between you legs honey, then squat up and down.

Squenix, you're 3 days late

I'm just waiting for the Nintendo DS game that will teach me advanced theories in world domination and population control/terror methods. EA, make it happen.

Non-games make me cry.
REUYL @ Apr 4th 2007 2:42PM
Why the f wouldn't I just do REAL yoga or gardening?
Seedy @ Apr 4th 2007 2:59PM
Interesting pieces of software. You tend to take these Square-Enix guys for granted as an RPG company but they surprise you the odd time.

"Why the f wouldn't I just do REAL yoga or gardening?"
Apparently you're confused. Reading a book on gardening or watching a Yoga DVD doesn't mean you're actually doing the activity unless you actually follow the instructions provided, yes?
So these games provide instruction so you actually CAN do real Yoga or Gardening or Hamster Launching. Personally, I cannot wait for the Hamster Launching one. Everytime I tie one of those model rocket engines to a Hamster and launch it off, the hamster tends to catch fire and drop back to earth as a steaming pile of charred fur and goo. Obviously I'm doing something wrong so I NEED this game to help me.

another reason why the ds will continue it's world domination, software that can appeal to anyone outside the hardocre and casual gamers circle.

All these non-games for DS. There have to be at least five a week released over in Japan...
While I sometimes wish we could get all of them, I then immediately remember how I would never play them. I can understand if you need some sort of instruction for something, like yoga or gardening, but there are also plenty of other sources for that. I do think the DS Cooking Navi application looks like it would be useful, though, or at least much more so than Cooking Mama. :)

@9 sheppy It's not funny to do that. My dad and uncles put their hamster in a model rocket... Poor guy's guts were liquified due to the some 10Gs.
REUYL @ Apr 4th 2007 3:47PM
Hamster launching? Forget what I said, I'm buying a DS!
sheppy @ Apr 4th 2007 3:58PM
"My dad and uncles put their hamster in a model rocket... Poor guy's guts were liquified due to the some 10Gs."
Wait... you guys put them IN a rocket? Hell, I just duct taped the engine to their chest. Maybe that's where I'm going wrong. Of course the ultimate goal is to stuff their cheeks with seeds and have them throw up during the ride, thus seeding a very large area in style....

Sheppy's obviously never unlocked the bonus level in Hamsterz Life.
