I agree with @50, until they fix the respawn time of real war. I'll stick with playing my video games.

Military people:
I don't think anyone is castigating the soldiers' decision to go go to Iraq. What bothers people are the presumptions made by military commercials, such as;
Being in the army is "fun"
Being in the army is like a video game
Being in the army makes you a "man
Being in the army make you "army strong" (I hate that phrase)

what bothers people is the portrayal of the army. I think I'm just as strong and as much of a man as anyone in Iraq.Most of us aren't eager to join the war effort at this point; Iraq is a disaster (say what you want, what we're doing there doesn't matter) and the entire war on terror has become a joke. However, saying this doesn't mean I disrespect the soldiers. Just because the war is useless doesn't mean I hate the soldiers or something.

@ #48,

Well said sir. Too young to drink, too old to not get shot.

Any else notice the noob on the commercial that turned his back to the fight AND covered our field of vision? He's going to get us both killed!

What a horrible commercial. I'm with pretty much everyone who commented. except that moron steve (who's probably an army recruiter).

(I think I read something saying we've got more people in jail for minor drug offenses than ALL of europe's prison population combined) so why not just make deals with the prisoners? take some years off of their sentences if they join up..they're already huge from prison.

I'll join the army when I see the general's kids on the frontlines. So I guess I mean never.

geves,

I agree with you. I'd never go to fight just because some guy said it is for my country. But, if the president were to hop in alongside me and go to war, or at least send his boys with, I'd at least consider it.

It just seems fishy. "Here, take these guns and go murder those human beings in their country. Me and my family are going to chill in this bomb shelter on the other side of the war and eat lobster. This war is for the country, not me and my group of rich dudes. Trust me, I'm a politician after all."

Yeah, try telling my buddy that war is fun and games. He's had nightmares of convoy attacks every night since he got out of the Army.

There is a reason they market military service to the young and have since the beginning of time. This is no different, and it was obvious that Americas Army was just a propaganda tool. The only difference now is that they are admitting it in a commercial (basically). I'm still not going to join the army, even if I play their game. I don't think it's any more wrong than the propaganda that is GI Joe (even though I love GI Joe). What is really wrong is that all 18 year old men have to register for selective service whether they want to or not.

If there are any kids listening, you should know the following;

If you join the Army or the Marine Corp, you will end up in Iraq or Afghanistan and you will get shot at. And there are no respawns.
