Molyneux becomes French knight, farts in our general direction
Peter Molyneux, responsible for such mixed blessings as Fable, Black and White, and The Movies, has received the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et de Lettres award from the French government, just like Mario mastermind Shigeru Miyamoto did last year. The award makes both gentlemen honorary French knights. No word on whether they get to prance about in suits of armor, but we'll keep you posted.

Not sure I like the insinuation made in this article.
He's a witch! He turned me into a NEWT! ... I got better.

An honorary French knight? How 18th century of them. I wonder what it takes to get one of those because the value most cherished by the french is indolence, and Miyamoto doesn't seem dumb or lazy by any stretch of the imagination. Maybe this has something to do with video games encouraging kids to sit on their butts all day while others get work done. I guess my theory depends upon whether or not the french government was aware of the physical activity involved in using the wiimote.
Hum...or maybe these guys just haven't seen the inside of a shower since the days of the guillotine. ;)

Lol Steve, you know as much about my people as I do about ancient mandarin.
Do yourself a favor, and remain silent.

I didn't know that they had honorary Knighthood still, i thought that went out with the Bourbons (1848 revolution, 3rd republic installation)
Well, at least they're getting the right people, next on the list should be David Jaffe

Surely he has done more than those three games right? I mean he is talked baout like some God but if that's all he's got then whats the big fuss?
ZeroCorpse @ Apr 5th 2007 5:22PM
If farting in our general direction is the requirement to become a French knight, then Sony's bigwigs all deserve knighthood.

Khan:
You seem to know more about this then me, but I can tell you most honorary titles such as Knight were either not disturbed by the revolutions (most of which did not in fact put the people in power) or have been reinstated as simple decorations without any political power, in modern times.

Just hope no developers become German Knights...

@horngreen,
Yes, lots more... He's been designing games since the 80's. Most of his fans (myself included) seem to respect him not for his more recent work, but for his older stuff. Especially the work his legendary (right? I hope they are at least) former studio, Bullfrog.

y'know who else has l'ordre des arts et de lettres? fréderick raynal and michel ancel. those guys are ace developers. france is the future, ladies and gents. if quantic dream succeed in making heavy rain as good as it can be, then david cage is definitely up for the order two. and it's not a knight-hood in the oldschool sense, it was only established at the end of the 50s as a way of recognising the people who the french government consider to have made a serious contribution to the artistic industry, so it's nice to see that they're acknowledging video games in this way.
