Nintendo boosts profit forecast fourth time this fiscal year
Still not content with forecasting massive already profits, Nintendo has raised its sales forecast a fourth time for the fiscal year that ended March 31. Total sales are now said to be ¥966 billion (US $8.1 billion), up from the previous estimation of ¥900 billion (US $7.5 billion). Nintendo said they also expected their profit to beat expectations, which they set at a record ¥185 billion operating profit and ¥120 billion (just over US $1 billion) net profit.
Actual figures will be announced April 26. In the meantime, Nintendo will be busy constructing a life size version of Super Mario World with a twelve-foot naked, chocolate Miyamoto effigy in the middle of the world. Don't worry, we hear mint leaves will cover up his naughty bits.

You hear that? That's the sound of every developer on the planet jumping on the rocket train to Moneytown.
In the words of Mario: "Here we goooooo!"
KC @ Apr 5th 2007 8:03PM
LOL, great picture
Skippy @ Apr 5th 2007 8:10PM
Money, money, money...MONEY!
LongshotX @ Apr 5th 2007 8:42PM
Not my money. Well I do have a DS lite but its used mainly as an alarm. Pretty boring to me now but thats my opnion.
Mr Khan @ Apr 5th 2007 8:48PM
They still need to remake that picture with a Wii
still one of the best pics ever
Korova @ Apr 5th 2007 8:49PM
Maybe with the bigger bonus he is gonna get, Reggie will finally be able to afford a PS3! Oh, stop me! Its just so damn expensive! Oh-hahhahahahah
hvnlysoldr @ Apr 5th 2007 8:53PM
That pic prints money.
Sadistic Freek @ Apr 5th 2007 8:56PM
There are few pictures that make me laugh as hard as I did when I saw this one. I'd haveta say Lost Planet, with the planet in a maze, would be one of those few.
Nice to see Nintendo doing well again. I've always had a place in my gamer heart for them.
umm.....hello?? @ Apr 5th 2007 9:00PM
good news for my NTDOY stock bought in 2000!!
DSWii FTW!
hancock @ Apr 5th 2007 9:02PM
I dont think this is going to be repeated every year. Once the hype of Wii dies down things will go back to normal. And despite the amount of Nintendo handhelds sold each year- only so many people can keep buying them.. after that that will dry up as well.
fox @ Apr 5th 2007 9:10PM
Nintendo is doomed! They're pulling out of the console market.
Dolla Dolla @ Apr 5th 2007 9:10PM
They look so happy lol
I agree, hancock. The DS will die out as quickly as the PS2.
... wait ...
fightinfilipino @ Apr 5th 2007 9:21PM
t hancock: plus Nintendo is definitely not going to continue developing new handhelds and consoles. like *ever*
Satertek @ Apr 5th 2007 10:14PM
That picture never gets old :)
Wolfman @ Apr 5th 2007 10:14PM
@ Mr Khan
You mean like this http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Wolfman2k5/WiiPrintsMoney.gif
I remember seeing one with two bills coming out from the Wii slot and the speech bubble for Iwata saying "Double time!".
FrankTheCrank @ Apr 5th 2007 10:15PM
Great. This is good news.
So once the Wii goes away, Nintendo can dump all this money into a REAL videogame system with KICK ASS graphics.
480P is so 1995.
Rubang B @ Apr 5th 2007 10:47PM
Now I just need a picture of this scene:
Iwata is holding $1 and a Wii remote and is standing next to a Wii.
Miyamoto is holding 2 DS Lites.
Iwata puts the $1 into the Wii's disc slot and presses A on his remote.
$1 comes out of BOTH of Miyamoto's DS Lites.
Both their heads explode.
ViperVisor @ Apr 5th 2007 11:04PM
A billion dollar profit in this year? And that's with 8bil in sales.
So a big game that cost near 20mil to make needs 2.5mil in sales to break even.
Rubang B @ Apr 5th 2007 11:10PM
I think they spent 7 billion on launching the DS Lite and the Wii within the same fiscal year. We know 200 million went into Wii launch advertising alone. And we know they made about 8129075 prototypes before they settled on the Wii remote.
Cuja @ Apr 6th 2007 12:55AM
I still don't get it. What is it you're supposely buying from this company? A throwback from the past.
DrJeff @ Apr 6th 2007 1:19AM
This is good news. As a gamer, I want all 3 systems to do well.
mo @ Apr 6th 2007 2:07AM
its really hard to try and put a negative spin on those numbers
but still people try
thats just sad
maylon @ Apr 6th 2007 2:32AM
Shhh, your not allowed to say anything bad about Ninty, they are considered the Switzerland of the console wars.
maylon @ Apr 6th 2007 2:34AM
And also, does this mean that if all the devs jump ship, that us Ps3 and 360 owners are going to eventually get ports from the Wii? I am terrified.
OhJustSomeRandomGuy @ Apr 6th 2007 3:15AM
Shouldn't the DS be printing yen?
dsub @ Apr 6th 2007 4:04AM
Hmm. Just as expected.
Just as the gamestop CEO expected as well.
http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/27/wii-shortage-is-intentional-according-to-gamestop/
We get no Wii's in for literally 5 weeks and all the sudden when a new financial quarter starts (this week) we get a shipment of 12 Wii's in. Which is the largest shipment we have recieved since launch. Plus we are getting 9 more tommorrow.
It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the post-christmas Wii drought coming to an end could it? Super Paper Mario and Mario Party 8 will be released in the next 3 weeks.
The Wii shortage was 100% intentional. Say what you will but I am 100% convinced. Wii's will be easy to find by May.
Louis S. @ Apr 6th 2007 6:41AM
@dsub
Okay... I don't think that's what we're talking about here, but okay.
Rubang B @ Apr 6th 2007 7:02AM
I think the Wii sells a lot because it's good and they're ramping up production because a lot of people want it because it's good. And if you go by dsub's Nintendo hating logic you can't use dsub's angle. You're supposed to say that Super Paper Mario was done 2 years ago because it's a GameCube port and that Mario Party 8 took 5 minutes to develop because it's a Mario Party. They both would've been released at launch to feed the "launch hype," unless of course... oh crap I get it... the launch hype is gone because the FAD is fading away and now we need more games, so Nintendo held them until now! Hahaha, you got me. Sorry dsub you asshole.
Ryan LN @ Apr 6th 2007 12:57PM
Making an operating profit of one billion dollars in a fiscal year means that not only do you not have to listen to idiots like us, you really don't have to listen to anybody. Say what you will about them as a company, but (with the exception of the Virtual Boy) the products they shove through the door, whether they be cream or crap, make them money. Period. And that will keep them either in or on the periphery of our lives for years to come. Kinda like Glade Clean Sheets Air Freshener. Or leprosy.
steve @ Apr 6th 2007 3:06PM
*pink to lip*
ONE...BILLION...DOLLARS!
