wow it looks like a dreamcast game.
I remember Tenchu came out for the DS, and it was buried, because it was unplayable. I wonder if this is the same.

What those screen shots look to me like, are low res vid captures, and not actual screen shots from the graphics of the game.

My bet is they have an underpaid/underfunded marketing division. Past that the 1 person that probably is in their marketing division knows nothing about games or the current consoles.

with my previous comment in mind, i'm willing to bet the game probably looks better than those shots.

But in that they can't fund a decent screenshot, does not bode well for the game as a whole though.

Tenchu is a series that I've given up on long ago. great in concept... but seriously... sooner or later, these guys have to work out the stiff mechanics, the horrible graphics, and just... well EVERYTHING!!!!

Just like Armored Core, I sometimes wonder how this series have collected such a enthusiastic fanbase... cuz seriously... the series was broken since day 1.

Guys... which entry in the Tenchu series was a graphical powerhouse again? I mean really, you act like this is all shocking and new. By now, things we should ALL know about Tenchu (unless the Xbox 360 is the first gaming system you've ever touched, then you're excused): The graphics will feel a generation behind our current game systems, the enemy AI will be horribly stupid, and if you can forgive the first two, the game will be fun as hell.

The Japanese demo's still on my HDD... and more than once I've thought about picking it up at the import shop (not the first Tenchu game I've had to buy as import either) but would prefer the translated version since Tenchu's got a decent story (in spite of the English voice-acting not being too hot). Anyhow, if the demo's any indication, it looks to be the same fun time previous Tenchu games have been.

Clearly it's not a game for everyone; but for anyone who likes to get their ninja on, it can't be beat. It's not a hard game, but it's so much fun to run around in... leaping from rooftop to rooftop, playing with all the ninja weapons, sneaking up behind people to slice their necks... I don't know, I guess we don't all find the first person blasting of steroid abusers to be the most amusing thing in the universe.

Alrighty, I've said my piece, feel free to continue trashing the game. :)

The game does not look this bad! I have the Japanese demo and, though the graphics are not really "next-gen," they look nowhere near this bad. These are low-res and poorly captured.

Nice strawman arguement there.

I'm sure the screens are horribly captured. Look at the Icons, even those look low-res. Even I can make a high-res icon... Tenchu isn't the only way that was treated poorly by bad capturing. Look at the first Splinter Cell: DA screens!

Then again, look at Eragon the Game...

Thanks aragorn! I didn't really intend it that way though. ;) I realize it's a little difficult to suss meaning out of text online since we can't code any kind of tone or emotional content into it, so allow me to restate. What I was really trying to say with the "strawman argument" was "hey; if, like me, fps aren't your favorite genre, and all that other stuff I mentioned above sounds amusing, don't pass on this game just because it looks like doodoo, give it a shot!"

I hope you can excuse me for taking a bit of a negative edge... but I was responding to a post that took a pretty negative tone, with a string of negative responses about a series I happen to enjoy... so perhaps I went on the defensive a bit. Can you really blame me for taking a swipe?

Either way, I certainly didn't intend that sentence to be any kind of argument at all, but rather a statement of my feelings on the matter. And for the record, as far as I know Tenchu has a fanbase full of folks like myself, who find the game extremely amusing DESPITE it's obvious flaws.

The demo's out there. Play it for yourself.

It definitely looks better than the vast majority of PS2 games. However, the environments are somewhat sparse and to me it wasn't very fun. To each their own, I guess.

I remember reading a magazine article about how awesome the first Tenchu sounded before it's release on the PS1. And when it came out, I bought it and loved it.

I'd gladly try the demo of this, despite somewhat muddy graphics.

@ 6

These games aren't "broken since day 1." It's just not for everyone. I've loved all the Armored Core games I've bought, but when I showed them to some of my other gaming buddies, some of 'em hated it. It's just not some people's cup of tea.

I'll tentatively jump on the Tenchu bandwagon. I played and loved the first three (though I did pick each of them up for 5-20 dollars each). They're not perfect, but there aren't a whole lot of "ninja simulators" out there. Plus, the third one allowed you to play multiplayer as Ninja Dog.

I always felt that, gameplay wise, they outdid the Metal Gear Solid series that debuted alongside it. The enemy AI is moronic, but there are plenty of games with that issue, very high profile releases included (coughGhostReconAdvancedWarfighter2cough).

This game is for anyone who gave up on Ninja Gaiden and decided they would go for it's ugly, retarded older sister instead.

Because, frankly, Ninja Gaiden has better *everything* than Tenchu ;)

@Azerael,

Yeah, you'd think. I'm actually a pretty big fan of NG too however... But NG isn't much of a ninja game (assuming ninjas were about deadly stealth). It's more of a (top notch) hack-n-slash game with a ninja-story backdrop.
