Today's game over video: The End of the World of Warcraft
48
One man decides to give up the World of Warcraft, for another addiction entirely, and the result is an experiment in cinematical over-the-topness. Sweeping soundtracks, fighting, Burning Crusade Collector's Editions flying through the air ... what more could you ask for?
If you're going to give something up, it's probably best to do in a grand way, involving videotape, your friends, trailers for other games, and lots of slow-motion. One thing everyone is asking though, would you go mental living in that house?

I have friends who live in houses/apartments like this. They are like some great collborative of WoW junkies that support each others habits by working a part time job 15 hours a week to maximize WoW time. All who live their pitch in whatever they make for the bare essentials.

Nice reference to a certain Monty Python movie at the end. Now, can someone finally answer this age-old question : what is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

I was ROFL when he said the "madness this is Xbox" line. Then the slo-mo kick to the groin. The facial expressions. It was a perfect hilarious recreation of the 300 trailer. Hats off to those guys for a funny movie (and for quitting WOW).

If you post on a video game blog, you are a nerd. Even if you are a player and got three girls on the side, play guitar and go to parties. If you take the time out of your day to post a comment on video games, or know about game news six months before anybody else does you are a nerd at heart.

What is it with the media saying everybody who plays wow is addicted? I only play wow on the weekends. People who play wow everyday for 8+ hours don't have any self-control.

Please don't regurgitate that dogmatic bastion of nonsense I see used around these parts perpetually.
I am not a nerd. That's because I'm smart enough to know that playing video games or checking the developments of the industry is not nerdy in-and-of-itself, just like I'm smart enough to know that being constantly surrounded by women doesn't make me "cool" -- it's merely a possible by-product of being such.
It's the people that exhibit their enthusiam for the hobby in incredibly uncharismatic and insipid ways, like the production above, that are deserving of the title. Unfortunately, kids like these are the faces of the hobby, and things like this serve only to pillar the societal stigma.
If you're okay with being labeled a nerd, that's fine. But attempts at using the gravity of that concept to pull others into its massive orbit of obscurity is selfish. This video is product of nerds. Therefore, anyone it manages to appeal is a nerd.

I'm astonished at your ability let dogmas sieze your ability to think rationally. How the hell is checking a video game blog site nerdy in itself?
That's fucking stupid.
Just an example of how more general societal stigmas have managed to coerce your thinking. Of course, I don't expect you to understand this, because you truly seem too stupid to have the faculty to partition the two concepts of nerds and video games.
And I underestimated the infestation of nerds on the internet because I don't spend 90% of my life attached to it...like a nerd would.

Sterotyping people based of their comedic actions is ignorant and improper. Labeling people to make yourself feel superior is "dumb".
I choose to not accept the term and try to turn it into something positive.

I'm simply providing social commentary, which is fairly accurate, regardless of my self-admittedly prickish presentation of it.
Considering what you deem to be a nerd, and what the norms of society agree to be nerdy, you'd be hard pressed to argue against it. Therefore, labeling me "ignorant", "improper" or "dumb" in light of this argument, all contradict your own principles.
"I choose to not accept the term and try to turn it into something positive."
This is a logical contradiction. You cannot turn something in which you do not accept into a positive.
The outlook is admirable, however.

I do however have all the time in the world to read and reply to any and all comments that in any way threaten me or challenge my fragile assumptions about my own masculinity and 'coolness.' Any and all attempts to impugn my good name by trying to associate me with 'nerdiness' will be met with a swift round of "prickish" "social commentary."

Was there an actual argument somewhere in that shitty attempt at sarcasm?
I saw something about how four or five posts on a video game blog within an hour magically equates to,
"all the time in the world to read and reply to any and all comments "
etc., but I only skimmed.
Seriously though, attacking me personally doesn't make me look at any of you as any less pathetic. If you want to insult me, at least coat with a fresh paint of contention, to sustain my interests. Baseless insults just make you look like idiots.

That was great. I love to see the vocabulary, SynikaL. You are a nerd, not that it is all that bad, and I'll breifly explain why.
You are posting, over and over again, on Joystiq using vocabulary that is completely unessesary to make your point. Trying only to make yourself seem smarter, thus above the rest of the people posting.
There remains only one such being, one such entity that requires this type of attention. They call him, the nerd.

We all have a different defintion of what a nerd is, it seems.
Funny things is, a new one seems to prop up with each person challenging me.
Lansing:
More personal attacks? BORING, but I'll bite.
So, I'm a nerd because I type "big words"? If you think the words I'm using are big, that says more about your vocabulary than it does anything about mine. I'm sorry you're intimidated by syntax and syllables. Is telling me I'm eloquent supposed to be an insult?
Apparently, nerdom and articulation skills are synonymous to you. It's precisely that lack of abililty to conceptualize outside that open-door prison dogmas have contructed around you, that makes each and every one of you an idiot.
And if you don't understand what I just said, you're already waiting to get fucked in this society.
Now, go ahead and make some Thesaurus jokes in your continued efforts to be predictable.

Nerd: an enthusiast whose interest is regarded as too technical or scientific and who seems obsessively wrapped up in it.
Your a nerd. Stop defending yourself.

Thesaurus jokes!!!!
I love it. Let me partition my thoughts and defragment my thinking.
According to the joystiq timer you posted your last post before mine at 3:12 Eastern, and I posted my affirmed "bait" at 3:54. So for at least 42 minutes you waited for someone else to attack you, before you could conjure your next awesome inquisitive comeback. This makes you a nerd, or at least socially inept. Why am I doing the same thing you may ask? Because to me... this is fun as hell.
-Still signing huh...
-still gay
-still so gay

Awesome, you actually believed I wasn't baiting you! I'm going to have to go with inept for sure now. The thesaurus jokes were there, you must have missed them due to your extensive vocabulary that isn't quite compatible with the rest of the world, hence why you're a nerd. Partition, defragment, yea.. that was thesaurus joke! I guess I've moved up to dictionary jokes now! Aren't you proud of me.
Don't freaking pretend your leaving, when I get back I expect a post and I expect it to be the best piece of internet argumentative writing I have ever laid my young eyes upon.

I loved this video. I was once a world of warcraft junky, but not to this extreme. I play at home by myself, have a few freinds that play, and still work a job. I honestly have to rank this blog about 9.6 out of 10. Very well done. I like the 300 aspect. Awesomely done.
