Whilst all these 360's keep dying, my PS3 continues to cure cancer and other diseases with folding@home for the 14th day in a row. 35 work units GO!

You guys are idiots. Buy a computer if you want to play games.

This should have been filled to the brim with gay jokes, judging by the maturity of all of you.

Zero, your acceptance is exactly what corporations are aiming for.

Extended care is pure profit, and companies would love to have a higher attachment rate, but products have been too reliable for consumer mass acceptance of them.

You enjoy your "peace of mind" while the rest of us will suffer inferior product quality and planned obsolescence.

I think there were some offensive remarks made by TheHostileDwarf, as that's his M.O., and I noticed somebody referring to his comment, but his comment was nowhere to be found. So my guess is he came in to talk shit and got deleted. But kudos to everybody else in the thread. I wonder if we'll ever get to know the true defect rate. I'm sure Microsoft will never ever tell us, and I don't know who else could find out. Do you really need a Live Account to update your system?

The biggest question I have is why are people surprised at the shoddy quality of the Xbox 360?

Look at other products that MS has produced and you got yourself a proven track record of mediocrity. Some of the Xbots may whine that this story is getting old but so is the poor quality of software (Windows/Office) and hardware (Xbox/Zune) they attempt to produce.

Heaven forbid should they start developing their own PDAs or cell phones. Can you imagine the number of dropped calls and missed appointments?

@JesseJames #4, #5, #48.

Your posts are so inaccurate and flamboyant they are hilarious. All I can say is that ps3fanyboy.com is missing your posts everytime you momentarily leave them to re-post your old-flame.

I have a launch day 360 and my roommate has a launch day 360 also. 0 Red Rings of Death here. My roommate also works at an eB Games stores and he says that more than one thousand of the 1000 or so they've sold locally here they've gotten 17 returns. Most of the co-workers at my company I work for who are gamers own a 360 and 2-3 own playstation 3s. 2 bought PS3s but later returned them just saying they couldn't afford it and something about freezes in the Gundam game? They nicknamed it Gundamn slow hehe. That and they said they'd purchase it maybe in the future once more games come out. Anyways, none of the 360 co-workers have ran into the red ring of death thing either. I'd say its pretty safe to buy a 360 to 'John' who was waiting. These issues just get blown out of proportion by ppl like JessePS3James.

Blown out of proportion?...Joystiq keeps reporting this, over 18 months after it has been released....and somehow everyone is blowing this out of proportion but Microsoft...

I don't understand it, I have seen positive or neutral news about the other consoles get twisted into something bad....but here in plain black and white something clearly bad about the 360 and all you xbots scream "mine works fine, these guys must be idiots" or "this story is old news" how is it old news when its still happening today?..18 months after its been released...

"all my co-workers, and grandmas. and fat aunties, 360's work fine"

What the hell does that prove?...One of my Friends was one of the first to get a 360 and his too broke down and needed to be repaired....you see so what makes your claims any more right or wrong then mine?

BUT..when we have 2 "alleged" official reports about the "red rings of death" in the past month about this then its being blown out of proportion?

again until we hear real reports about the ps3 "allegedly" crashing on real websites and not Internet geeks claiming that it "freezes" then don't bother

I have a dead 360, my dad has a dead 360, there are plenty of dead 360's everywhere you look on the internet, Microsoft continues to treat every case differently and on a case by case basis, this is looking more and more like a class action, is there not one lawyer among us who could chime in, can't we approach our state attorney's or something, I mean alot of money has been spent and it's going right into microsoft's pocket

I didn't believe that Xbox 360s were dying left and right, until my brother's 360 went down, then another friend's, then mine, then another friend's. So out of the 5 people I know with a 360 (including myself), 4 have had to return theirs for repair. 2 of the 360s were purchased this past November, and those both died in February.
It is hard to imagine that the failure rate is anything below 10-15%.
It is really unacceptable and I am hoping the Microsoft will fix whatever the inherent hardware problems are with the new elite model.

im on my second.

third when they send me another coffin.

its a shame.

its costing me £80 in the uk for repairs with the included warrenty.

no matter how much i try to complain to microsoft about the unacceptable running costs of the 360 they just dont budge (or reply).

anyone had any luck at all with this?

if it breaks after this warrenty i'm looking at a prospective £80 per year running cost.
