Hey Wii Blaster, meet Joytech's Sharp Shooter
As we wait to see the final model of Nintendo's Wii Blaster, peripheral manufacturer Joytech is showing off the Sharp Shooter. The Sharp Shooter combines the nunchuk with the Wiimote. No word yet if this is the same method the Wii Blaster will use to form the gun, but it does raise questions about the two unit's accelerometers interfering with each other. We have absolutely no idea if this is meant to be competition for the Wii Blaster or is just some strange thing for ... well, we can't figure out what game it would be useful in. Guess we'll just have to wait and see the Wii Blaster to help explain our Sharp Shooter questions. No word on release date or cost for the Sharp Shooter.

sounds like it would not work properly for any game.
CommonRider @ Apr 6th 2007 1:25PM
it could work for RE: umbrella chronicles if it is indeed a rail-shooter.
Ken @ Apr 6th 2007 1:30PM
The "rail" shooter remark has been shot down by IGN. They had an interview with Capcom (I can't link it since I'm at work and I can't go to any site but this).
Basically it's a FPS, you move around like a normal FPS, but it's linear. *shrug* I'll still get it because I'm a huge RE fan.
LongshotX @ Apr 6th 2007 1:31PM
Looks stupid just like Nintendo's version...
Ken @ Apr 6th 2007 1:34PM
You look stupid LongshotX!!!!
OHHH BURN!!
@topic
Unusable.
Raynre @ Apr 6th 2007 1:36PM
Why would they interfere with each other? The accelerometers are programmed from the start, just like everything else in a game. If the developers dont want them interfering, they wont make them interfere.
Awesome concept too. Never thought of using the actual nunchuk as the handle...
Ken @ Apr 6th 2007 1:39PM
@Raynre
It would work on future games (if made just for the gun), but you definitely wouldn't be able to play Red Steel with it. Since reloading requires you to shake the nunchuck slightly.
Wouldn't work for metroid prime 3 either. Since you have to thrust the nunchuck forward to grapple something, then pull back on it to rip a door/sheild off. (best feeling ever).

Ken
You attacked over this stupid ass looking add-on.
Ken @ Apr 6th 2007 1:40PM
Jack
It was a joke. :P I wouldn't buy any gun addons because I think the Wiimote works just fine.
:) It's longshot, just giving him crap.
Todd @ Apr 6th 2007 1:40PM
Odd design, yet compelling. When it comes to peripherals, though, I buy straight from the official manufacturer. I can't stand the crappy second rate peripherals.
Yayaja @ Apr 6th 2007 1:42PM
They could just ignore the signals from one of the accelerometers. Awesome design!
SlappHappy @ Apr 6th 2007 1:42PM
It really seems as if all these non-standardized peripherals for Wii are going to become a big headache in the near future.
whosmav @ Apr 6th 2007 1:46PM
The haters need to can it cause that shit looks dope.
Virtua Cop NOW!
Lewis @ Apr 6th 2007 1:51PM
^Weak.
Mouse and keyboard FTW.
Justin @ Apr 6th 2007 1:55PM
^ Yeah because a mouse feels just like your holding a gun.
Justin @ Apr 6th 2007 1:55PM
^ Yeah, because a mouse is just like holding a gun...
Justin @ Apr 6th 2007 1:56PM
Damn!!!!!!!
Jack of No Trades @ Apr 6th 2007 2:01PM
Justin....
Holding a remote feels like holding a gun???
Raynre @ Apr 6th 2007 2:06PM
Jack: Never occured to me that people would be stupid enough to try and use a controller configuration that the game wasnt designed for. =3 I thought it was talking about the proximity of the two units or something similar.
Finn @ Apr 6th 2007 2:19PM
"Holding a remote feels like holding a gun???"
I think more so than a mouse, was the point he was trying to make
Ken @ Apr 6th 2007 2:20PM
Jack
More so than a mouse. But I get your point.
Mouse and Keyboard > Wiimote > 360/PS3 controller (The + pad on the 360 controller is terrible, its like a mini-analog stick, and it never works. Try playing Castlevania: SotN on XBLA only using the + pad.)
Well, that is when the developers finally get the thing tweaked. (Metroid Prime 3 *cough*)
john @ Apr 6th 2007 2:23PM
Jack,
Yes. It's got a trigger. You aim it at your enemy on the screen. Pretty gun like. Even more so with this attachment. I do think Mouse and keyboard are better for FPS, but the Wii remote is more gun-like.
Jack of No Trades @ Apr 6th 2007 2:24PM
I agree that it is more gun-like than a mouse.
Zell @ Apr 6th 2007 3:14PM
No matter how often, I'm always still surprised when people actually reply to Jack of No Trades.
Ken @ Apr 6th 2007 3:24PM
Ah, well I'm stuck at work and arguing with Jack (even though I know what he's going to say) adds to some entertainment value.
As for the other people, he enjoys it. So why not?
happygolucky @ Apr 6th 2007 3:27PM
The day I see a nintendo keynote representative point a gun at the audience...
Mr Khan @ Apr 6th 2007 3:54PM
I agree, it would be unusable
And about Umbrella Chronicles, i kind of figured that's what they meant by "On-rails," not like House of the Dead, but more like most FPS's/Action games
The term "on-rails" is used too lightly these days
OTAM @ Apr 6th 2007 6:43PM
That is one of the most embarassing things i've ever seen.
Grey Acumen @ Apr 6th 2007 9:32PM
Actually, I kinda like this configuration. it looks liek a gun, and yet there's actually a bit of a purpose to it. At least more so than what I saw from the design that nintendo had. While teh accelerometers might interfere with each other, just caus eyou have two doesn't mean you always have to use both.
Burnt Meatloaf @ Apr 7th 2007 4:58AM
Enough with the articles about plastic crap, already. It's not even worth laughing at this stuff.
t_m @ Apr 7th 2007 9:49AM
This simply won't work for any existing wii shooters.
Most of the games use the remote motion sensors to move the viewpoint, and the nunchucks motion sensors to persorm extra actions like rolls, etc..
If they are both combined into the same hand then trying to roll left will move your viewpoint left, etc..
I DO understand the appeal of a gun attachment.. especially as the wiimote makes it hard to access some buttons without accidentally shifting your view by movingthe remote. But surely the nunchuck should stay seperate, and in the off-hand??
Emceay @ Apr 7th 2007 9:00PM
As soon as I saw this it reminded me of old school power rangers where they combine weapons to form that one shot kill gun. Wii peripherals unite!
Fred @ Jun 5th 2007 6:49PM
Don’t be mean guys, it’s a cool idea. I think if you really wanna enjoy shooting games, you need one of those. Simply attach the wiimote to this sharp shooter and use it as a gun, and then hold the nunchuck in your other hand and play the game as usual.
ralfin @ Jun 18th 2007 5:18PM
this woulds help someone like me i hope, i only have the use of one hand....
