Original Transformer voices returning for game
While you were busy eating your Captain Crunch and sitting around watching Transformers in your Underoos in the 80s, Peter Cullen and Frank Welker were busting their humps to make sure that you had the finest in children's programming as the voices of Optimus Prime and Megatron, respectively.Gamespot has reported they'll be back at the grindstone for the upcoming Transformers: The Game, due this summer for pretty much every system on the market. The site also features in-depth interviews with Cullen and Welker to mark the occasion, where we get some insight into how the two voices were created. Needless to say, it's more involved than you probably imagined. Before you click, be aware, the voice of Optimus gushes quite a bit about how talented the guy voicing Megatron is so, if that's going to ruin the series for you (or make it harder to enjoy the latest Transformers fan fiction), you may want to pass.

I still do that except now I watch Fox News Sunday and have a beer.

Choosing a movie on July 4th is gonna be tough, this year. You have this and Die Hard 4 coming out on the same day....
Sevon @ Apr 6th 2007 12:07PM
Why choose; do both in the same day!
wait in the car @ Apr 6th 2007 12:08PM
You'd consider seeing Die Hard 4 over Transformers?
Say it ain't so...
Grindstone @ Apr 6th 2007 12:17PM
Yay! He said my name in his post! Well here's a shout out to you, Justin what's your bucket, you rock! Just like the Transformers!
Hopefully the movie doesn't suck, because that would mean that you suck too. And that would be sad.

There has yet to be a good Transformers video game. I sure hope whatever game studio does this right.
hvnlysoldr @ Apr 6th 2007 12:22PM
It will never be the same from the original. Will still enjoy this though.

Thank god.

This movie looks badass and I'm so glad they're doing the voices! I won't give a crap about blowing up fireworks on the 4th, I'll be going to see this! :D

There's a Die Hard 4?!
Diskoboy @ Apr 6th 2007 1:52PM
#4 - There's two words that make me apprehensive about The Transformers. Those words are "Michael Bay".
#12 - Yes. It's going to be called "Live Free or Die Hard". It's got the guy from the Apple Macintosh commercials in it. And Bruce, of course....
Diskoboy @ Apr 6th 2007 1:58PM
Oh - and I'll be very upset if there is no Soundwave or Shockwave in the movie.
I'll probably see DH4 first, then see Transformers when the hype dies down after a few days.
jollydwarf @ Apr 6th 2007 2:19PM
Interesting, as Hugo Weaving is voicing Megatron for the film, as I recall. Debunked? Wrong character? More important to get the 'classic' voice for the game than the film?
Seifer @ Apr 6th 2007 2:43PM
#15 - Or Activision just couldn't afford Mr. Weaving's price.
steve @ Apr 6th 2007 2:51PM
I hope Starscream gets the original voice too
sheppy @ Apr 6th 2007 3:15PM
The PS2 Transformers game was pretty good. And considering I could give a pigeons squirt about transforming robots that don't fall directly into the Skull Squadron variety, that's saying alot from me.
Seifer @ Apr 6th 2007 3:32PM
#17 - That'd be kinda hard to pull off, considering Chris Latta passed away about a decade or so ago.
Destin @ Apr 6th 2007 10:48PM
#14 - No Soundwave or Shockwave, sorry. But there's a Decepticon that turns into a boombox, named Frenzy, after one of Soundwave's tapes. And word is they didn't use him because they wanted to use him "properly" for the sequel. But hey, you still get Starscream, Bumblebee, Ironhide, Jazz, and a few more.
#15 - Hugo Weaving is Megatron in the movie, Welker's just doing the voice in the video game. Seems kinda weird to me, but whatever. I only really cared about Optimus Prime's voice.
I really liked the PS2 Transformers Armada game, and will probably be pretty forgiving of this one as long as it's reasonably decent and involves vehicles turning into big-ass robots and mashing each other.
Ryan P. @ Apr 7th 2007 1:02AM
Wow, its so wierd having the actors talk about each other as freinds...they're mortal enemies!!
Oh, and #17, The guy who did StarScream, Chris Latta , died of lung cancer in the 90's. I was hoping they would have asked about him in the interview.
Hugo Weaving as Megatron? This is the problem with Micheal Bay directing the movie, he just doesn't get what people who grew up on the show want to see.

"While you were busy eating your Captain Crunch and sitting around watching Transformers in your Underoos in the 80s..."
(Comic Book Guy Voice) - Uh, excuse me! Transformers was broadcast in the afternoon as children were coming home from school and NOT a saturday morning cartoon as this profoundly ignorant blog "writer" has suggested. So we would not be sitting around in underoos eating Captain Crunch; perhaps eating a tuna sandwich in our overalls?
Justin McElroy @ Apr 9th 2007 8:04AM
I don't know about you man, but as soon as I got home from school it was pants on floor, spoon in bowl. God damn, that was living.
John Wilson @ Apr 9th 2007 12:17PM
Transformers was actually a Sunday morning cartoon for me back in TX. Luckily we had a VCR because the parental units weren't trying hear anything about missing church.
I really don't understand why they couldn't get Welker for the movie. You would think the video game was more important.
I smell the continuing Curse of Bay on this one which is not good, because i really want to see this movie, I just don;t want to fork over money supporting Bay and his BS.
