Three Speech retracts PS3 BioShock, but not other release dates
Three Speech, the "semi-official blog handled by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe," has retracted their claim that BioShock is coming to the PlayStation 3. The kerfuffle began when Steve Boxer, one of the only non-anonymous writers for the site, stated the PlayStation 3 would be getting the game. He wrote in a post about upcoming games, "Another hotly anticipated title from 2K Games (also appearing on Xbox 360) is BioShock." Of course, having this posted on Sony Europe's semi-official blog did bring the statements some weight. The post also stated September would see the releases of Killzone, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank, Lair and Warhawk. None of these release dates have been retracted, but Sony America says the only game with a confirmed date is Lair in July.
It would be nice to finally get a statement on what Three Speech is to Sony. This is the second time in two weeks Three Speech has gone off-message. They state on their site, "Three Speech isn't part of PlayStation, but it does get to speak to PlayStation. You could say we're 'semi official'." Our requests to Three Speech for the name of their editor and a list of their writers have been ignored previously. We continue to question who Three Speech is and what they represent. If they are a handled by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, like Sony America says, it might be time to tug the leash.

I wonder why it would be retracted. Either they mixed up and put the wrong game down, or they want to keep Bioshock a secret? Doesn't matter the shock series are great, and everyone should get to play them.
Even those that wine about Capcom "betraying" them.
Also in b4 "lol taek dat xbot were getting bioshock!" and "no u, stfu sony fanboy lol, they went and removed it, so obviously its wrong!"
zhine @ Apr 7th 2007 6:01PM
I wish they'd make up their mind....it'll be good on either platform but come on, don't fudge it if it's not for certain; PS3 doesn't need that.

seeing as take two is in need for money bioshock will defitnely go multiplatform

...umm...I'm not sure if I'm right, but it's 2K Games and Irrational Games behind it, so Take-Two doesn't have much to do with it? But maybe I'm wrong.

Thats probably exactly what they did.LOL. But honestly Sony should get a clue. This is a business I actually commend MS for spending money on their exclusives. I don't care about brand loyalty and all that other crap. If you are not OWNED by the company that wants your game then you should be able to sell your product to whoever. I understand Sony is trying to rely on loyal companies but in the end this is a business. I highly doubt Bioshock goes multiplatform cause Prey sure as hell didn't and Sony's install base doesn't play FPS's any how. Call it a monopoly tactic if you want but I bet if MS offered any of us a Million bucks cash to make a game for them we'd take it in a heart beat FAN BOY OR NOT
Baby21 @ Apr 7th 2007 7:04PM
There are many evidences that Bioshock for PS3 around .
Hmmm, maybe Microsoft only bought the timed exclusive cos it is more profit for pulisher if it is keep exclusive on one system.
Baby21 @ Apr 7th 2007 7:06PM
It *isn't* keep exclusive on one system.
Todd Rabanus @ Apr 7th 2007 7:08PM
well according to take two's website bioshock isn't under the games coming for PS3 so i'll take that as the best indication as Bioshock being an XBOX360 exclusive. Can't argue with the people making the game.
Cheesehead @ Apr 7th 2007 7:13PM
Nobody with a brain will play bioshock on a console.
By that time, DX10 will be available, and PC graphics will once again be markedly superior to consoles.

Or they could still have to wait for an exclusivity clause to run out. Or possibly waiting on their overlords to announce the game. Leaks steal your thunder. If I was Sony and I had managed to steal away one of the big games the X-box fans have been trumpeting as a great exclusive I'd want to do it at a time and place of my choosing. Let them trumpet how this is a must have game and a reason to buy the 360 only to a few weeks before its out announce "Yeah, PS3 owners. You're getting this one too."
jp @ Apr 7th 2007 7:23PM
one thing i love wht sony said they are focused more now on creating great original ip which alot should do
cause ms mostly concerned on capturing exclusives

They did announce at X06 last year that Bioshock would be exclusive to 360 and PC when it is released, though it wouldn't shock (no pun intended) me if it did end up coming to PS3.

Umm the 360 lineup so far is the most diverse of the three so far, only because it's been out longer but the fact still remains. The only thing I really think the 360 needs some more of is platformer titles as the RPG and even JPRG titles look to be coming in. Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata, FABLE 2, Oblivion, Mass Effect, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Sacred 2 and Kingdom Under Fire to name some. Tons of sports games and even RTS games are out and coming out. The only thing I'm disappointed in so far as a 360 owner is again platformers, which is while I will eventually purchase another system because the venue does look pretty bleak outside of Banjo Kazooie and the only good ones out so far are on XBLA in my opinion. One can make the same argument towards the wii calling it a party only game or a PS3 saying it isn't getting any unique games, but to come to such a conclusion you probably only read joystiq ( no offense to joystiq ) and don't look at upcoming titles for any of the systems. Do some research. There's a pretty good chance I will end up owning all three consoles.... again... damn it :)
maylon @ Apr 7th 2007 8:34PM
Don't forget Two Worlds or Overlord either, those are looking quite fine so far :)
WizarDru @ Apr 7th 2007 9:27PM
"By that time, DX10 will be available, and PC graphics will once again be markedly superior to consoles."
And the system upgrades that will be required to actually USE the DX10 features will be so expensive that the 360 will be an excellent alternative.
It sounds like Three Speech was trying to convince the faithful that they aren't missing out on some of the big exclusives and that the 360 doesn't have that big of an advantage and it's all going to be ALL RIGHT. Except that Irrational was pretty specific that it'd be a 360/PC title and probably reacted pretty strongly against the intimation that it just might be otherwise.

Nobody with a brain will play Bioshock on a console?
How much does a good DX10 graphics card cost? What are the system requirements?
I think this is more of a matter of money than of brains. Actually, the smartest person might be the one who spends the least and yet still gets to play Bioshock, such as a person who plays it on 360.
Not everyone can throw around $1500 to buy a high-end gaming PC that will - face it - not be considered high-end in about six months after it's purchased.
Arturo @ Apr 7th 2007 11:38PM

so what you're saying is that when bioshock comes out not one person will buy it for consoles, i would hope that those who do get it have brains in them...i know its a figure of speech but it still sounds kinda silly...:D

so....the 360 huh? Elite rings a bell? and it wont be an excellent choice, because I would be getting what I'm paying for, quality products that I can rely on, and let's face it, the reliability of a 360 is low...
ephraim @ Apr 7th 2007 11:45PM
Three speech probably just put it up there because they wanted people to believe It was a game coming to PS3. Since it is not an "official" sony weblog, they can post a "rumor" about a highly anticipated title coming to the PS3 just so people will think It is coming. It's run by Sony marketers as #3 said, so they are going to make people believe it's coming to PS3 even if it's not and they know it, and Sony won't get in trouble for "lying" because it isn't an "official" sony weblog.

You're right, but you gotta realize why . Platformers are slowly going the same route of 2D shooters. The genre is getting old and stagnant . So people aren't buying it . Hopefully Banjo will be worth it.
BTW, stop paying attention to the boner who mentioned DX 10. Think about it, why the hell is he checking joystiq, which is a console/portable website? He's a troll.

Half Life 2, Far Cry, KOTOR, guess whats common among these - yeah right these were all XBOX "exclusives" that couldnt sell consoles becuase everyone was playing it on PC!
Rubang B @ Apr 8th 2007 4:32AM
@jaysins, I don't know if you've played Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, but it's in no way an RPG. They took out all the stat-editing from the X-Men Legends games, so all you can do is pick which special moves to learn and what to wear. And now each character can wear 1 item instead of 3.

It is a timed exclusive or something like Assassin's Creed. Take Two (2K games) is losing a lot of money, they can't risk out on losing a part of their target audience. Aside from that, a PS3 version was announced at E3. Do you remember how Oblivion and GTA were announced as 360 exclusives? PS3 is getting Oblivion, GTA IV and just like the 360 exclusive content for that last one. (Take Two, Rockstar, 2K Games, Gathering, ... it is all the same company)
It is only since the Microsoft event X06 that Take Two spends entire days telling people it doesn't exist. Do you see Square-Enix or Konami reacting within the hour every time someone tells MGS4 or FFXIII are going to the 360? No, that is because they aren't planning it at the moment. Remember Ubisoft and Capcom? They made it quite clear Assassin's Creed and DMC4 were exclusives.
Jake @ Apr 8th 2007 8:20AM
First of all, not every exclusive is bought and paid for. Posters here seem to be under that impression. It is not true.
Companies often focus on a single console to make the game more technically impressive. Multiplatform games must be watered down to work with each console's weaknesses. Gears of War would not run on the PS3. Had they made that game multiplatform, it wouldn't have looked as good. Had they made it a PS3 exclusive, it would have probably looked just as good, but in different ways.
This really sounds to me like a 360/PC release, with the PS3 version coming some time, maybe as much as 6+ months, later. That writer has some credibility and it is doubtful he pulled the story out of a hat. Perhaps MS has just paid for verbal exclusivity for a certain amount of time, like with AC.
epsilon343 @ Apr 8th 2007 10:50AM
@34, all but one of those were originally PC games that were then ported to the Xbox (HL 2 and Far Cry), KOTOR was the only exclusive of the bunch for the Xbox.

Bottom line, you will not see Bioshock on the PS3 this year. Peter Moore made that clear just a month or so ago that Bioshock was exclusive to the console, save PC. Nevertheless, 2008 could be a different story and it could happen Also, Kotaku received confirmation on Friday when this story hit from 2K reps it remains exclusive;
"UPDATE: 2K reps just contacted us to let us know "BioShock is exclusive to Xbox360 and PC Games for Windows."
Alex @ Apr 8th 2007 1:55PM
I wonder why so many 360 fans are throwing around DX10 so happily since the 360 doesn't even support DX10, it supports DX 9c. Either way, OpenGL achieves the same results, but with greater performance. It's actually why Microsoft dropped OpenGL driver support with Windows; they want to weed out OpenGL since it's superior to DirectX.
Jake @ Apr 8th 2007 4:15PM
Alex,
I'm too lazy to double check, but I think people bringing up DX10 in this thread are PC fans saying consoles will be graphically inferior once DX10 is rocking. Were you refering to some other thread or something? It has been publicly stated multiple times the 360 will not do DX10. Its architecture is built around DX9. I mean, for it to do DX10 it probably couldn't even be out yet, let alone over a year ago.
Mr Khan @ Apr 8th 2007 4:29PM
Correction: Platformers are dying on all non-Nintendo platforms
Just this year, i had Sonic and the Secret Rings, Kirby Squeak Squad, day after tommorrow Super Paper Mario, then near the end of the year, Super Mario Galaxy
lack of innovation is killing platformers overall, but Nintendo's findign ways to keep them fresh (SEGA, starting with Secret Rings, is apparently willing to begin trying to diversify...)
But this is way off topic, anyway, you would think ThreeSpeech would be inclined to lie in Sony's favor, but companies usually don't use resources from one branch to compete with other branches' competition like that (like how Windows interacts with certain Nintendo and Sony products)
My guess is they're on the fence about it, if BioShock doesn't meet sales expectations, it'll go multiplatform. Otherwise no
Liquid @ Apr 8th 2007 4:50PM
BioShock = timed exclusive any retard would see that
jaysins @ Apr 8th 2007 11:39PM
@ Rubang B
That's still an RPG. Role Playing Game is what it stands for in case you didn't know and that is definitely what Marvel Ultimate Alliance is albeit not a very deep one. In fact it's quite shallow but you still have control over what goes into what stat and build your character. It's more of an action RPG if you want to get technical but it's in the RPG genre to be certain and I'm still right and your wrong.
@ Mr.Khan
I'll definitely agree with you that Nintendo seems to be trying really hard to keeping the platformer alive. I'm not a handheld guy so what I'm saying refers to consoles only. I think that platformers even on Nintendo are not as strong as they used to be. More specifically, they are not what defines the console. Mario used to define Nintendo as Sonic was Sega's image for a while in many peoples eyes. Not so much anymore. They are branching out and franchises like Zelda, Super Smash Bros, Metroid are really starting to stick out. Not to say Nintendo is ditching platformers, just that they as a whole are not nearly as influential to the industry imo. Sony and Nintendo both have some great platformers but they do not seem to play as big of a role as they used to for each respective company. Not necessarily a bad thing as we're getting more genres and greater diversity, and both companies have way more than the 360 to be certian. That's the red headed step child of MS. I think we'll see the genre fluctuate up and down for as long as I'm a gamer.
sheppy @ Apr 9th 2007 9:35AM
Wait, ummmm... Nintendos the one trying to keep the platformer alive? When did this happen? Because Nintendos attention in the genre has been negligant to say the least. How many platformers did Nintendo drop during the Gamecube era, exactly? I could be off by a couple but I count one. Now how many did Sony finance? Ten in their main series (Jak, R&C, Sly Cooper) not counting all those little hybrids like ICO. But as long as platformers are kept alive in general, I'm happy. Especially if it's truly new stuff like Paper Mario instead of cheapass sequelitis like Kirby Squeak Squad. I swear to christ, the developers just had a checklist from Nintendo of what NEEDS to be in a Kirby game and went only that far.
Having said that, who cares if Bioshock is exclusive or not? If I have to hear so many people bitch that DMC4 coming to 360 is only good business sense, why do 360 fanboys act like starving squirrels hoarding nuts? Who cares if it goes to PS3? It will still sell more on 360 by installed base alone. And, incidently, Bioshock more than likely will not do all that well. After all, how well did Prey do? Facing facts, Bioshock is a niche within the FPS genre. It's not white knuckled thrills and easy to pick up and play. Hell, it doesn't even have an easily marketable face to it. I'm not saying it will flop, but I am saying I fully expect to be able to snag CE editions of the game for $30 within 4 months of it's launch.
Also, quit calling it an RPG. It's about as RPG as Oblivion and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Yeah, yeah, I know. But if I wanted to play Gauntlet, I'd play Gauntlet. And the ONLY thing Oblivion does is finally give FPS gamers a huge story, logical player progression, and a massive world. Never once during my Oblivion experience (couldn't make it past hour 15.. sorry... not engaging enough of a story to keep my RPG love moving forward, not fast paced enough to move my FPS love to continue) did I think "now this is an RPG." In fact, majority of the time I was disappointed with the game because it never did feel like an RPG. Plus, it has one of the easiest to exploit systems EVER. Pick your character as a theif, never steal or sneak, and your character never levels. Neither does anything in the game, but keep using your sword and spells and you'll be a god.
Jake @ Apr 9th 2007 1:05PM
Sheppy,
Oblivion is an RPG in every sense. Final Fantasy isn't, but Oblivion is. Sure, you can exploit the system. It is a very open system, after all. But the point of the game is to just play and do what you want to do. If you want to make it really easy, you can. I liked using magic, and sword/shield, so I did both. It made the game more difficult, but it was still very fun.
