Yes, at least you gave a reason. You are a person of higher intelligence than he, and I respect you, and understand where you're coming from. I, too, am a little dissapointed in the processing power of the Wii.

That's why I have a 360. ^_^

Aw - poor Edward must've gotten beaten up on the playground, at school. Then came home, all pissed off, and plopped behind his computer where he thinks he is a big man because he's protected by his anonomity.

Boo-fucking-hoo...

Super Paper Mario has reviews ranging from 80% to 100%

It's in the same ballpark as Zelda, basically (the average is about 90% so far), thus making it 2nd best reviewed so far

@ Steve Johnson:

http://a944.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/01045/34/95/1045005943_l.jpg

That picture was taken four years ago in my senior year of high school, and I still can't wait for my yearly infusion of Mario.

@ maylon:

What you "dislike" are games that are different from the high-end, $2000+ rig end of the spectrum. Hate to break it to you, but the reason that the Wii and the DS are so popular is that you and every single person that claims that the 360 and the PS3 are better than Nintendo's consoles are in the minority. There may be 10-30 million North Americans out there that prefer their photo-realistic 40+ hour gorefests, but I can guarentee you that the vast majority, some 200-300 million people, couldnt really care less what the next console shooter looks or plays like. They prefer short, colorful timewasters that can be picked up and dropped in five minutes but still have enough depth to keep them entertained for weeks on end. That's why minesweeper and solitaire are still so popular. This is what Nintendo is doing; pandering to the crowd of people who enjoy playing games but dont have the time to waste on an MMORPG or 40 hour shooter.

That doesnt mean that the 360 or the PS3 are going in a bad direction, it just means that they will have a harder time bringing new people into the market. The high end games arent going to dissapear just because Nintendo makes shorter, colorful, addictive games. 10-30 million people is still a lot of people to take money from, especially considering those people will be more willing to pay more money for their gaming fix. So dont hate on Nintendo just because theyre doing something different.

Certain people just need to take a chill-pill. Calm down and relax, you'll live longer.

There's room enough in the world of gaming for Sony, Microsoft and yes, even Nintendo! lol

Personally, I have a PS2, Xbox and Nintendo DS. I enjoy all three for different reasons.

In the future, I plan on getting a PSP and either a 360 or PS3, maybe even both. Metal Gear Solid 4, God of War 3 and Gran Turismo 5 are enough of a temptation to make me want a PS3 for those three games alone.

My main point is that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all have positives and negatives regarding their systems and games. There's no law saying you can't own and enjoy all three of the companies products.

Happy Easter to all the gamers out there! :-D

Sorry, but I'm not buying it. Not the game, your comment. This is a revolutionary concept, and with the exception of Sonic Rush's 2-D action and 3-D boss fights, no 2-D platformer was able to switch to a 3-D environment. It's not just Mario. Maybe it's actually a good game. (gasp!)

"And, Matt C.'s reviews from ign are worthless... it like a review from shiggy himself."
I doubt Miyamoto would have given Twilight Princess only 8.9/10.

I don't hate Nintendo for doing something different,I hate Nintendo for trying to make the "Short, colorful timewasters that can be picked up and dropped in five minutes but still have enough depth to keep them entertained for weeks on end." type of games as the ONLY ones. I got suckered into buying the DS by seeing Mario 64 on it. After awhile I realized that all the games for it are the ones you exactly described and ended up selling it.

I am a big gamer and I want to put hours upon hours into achievements and goals. I want to play a game for 40 hours and barely scratch the surface like Oblivion. If your thing is quick and short games, that's fine, but the problem is that Nintendo is trying to make them the ONLY games and are ignoring the people who are "hardcore gamers" just to get grandpa (who for all you know might never even buy another game again) onto your system. This is why I like the idea of the Xbox Live Arcade, because for the games like that I have an alternative and it doesnt turn into the Casual gamerbox 360 and screw over us "hardcore" gamers.

Nintendo is not going to steal the whole industry from under your "hardcore" feet. You have nothing to be afraid of. They are expanding the market, not replacing it. This is good for all of us. Both Sony and Microsoft are on the record saying that Nintendo's market expanding tactics are benefiting them right now. They are jealous and want a piece of the pie.

If you still have your DS OTAM, do you have FF III?

This whole idea of Nintendo is expanding the market is BS... the problem is that THEIR market took a drastic beating during N64 and GC. Sony sold 100+ million PS1s and 115+ million PS2s.. dont you consider that expanding the market? How much did SNES or Genesis sell?

The only way to reach those numbers is to expand the market. The reason N64 and GC failed was because their markets were confined to kiddie games and Nintendo hardcores... their core market.

Now, take a look at guitar hero, DDR, eyetoy, karaoke games.. they're every bit as much expanding the market as wiisports. Contrary to what you lap up from Nintendo PR.. you dont need gimmick motion controls in every single game to appeal to non-gamers.

Ian Von Porter, every game you just listed had a wacky gimmick controller. A guitar, a dance pad, a camera, and a microphone? You just argued that casual games with weird input devices are expanding the market and that they helped Sony have 2 of the best selling systems of all time. Now did that mean the PS2 could ONLY have weird gimmick games and no "hardcore" games?

Just as the PS2 could have wacky casual games alongside "hardcore" gorefests like God of War 2, the Wii will have wacky casual games alongside No More Heroes and Manhunt 2. The PS2 was the weakest system last generation and outsold its competitors not with power but with a diverse library, which started with random casual crap. Sony learned a lot from Nintendo. You'd expect Sony to remember their successes, but they threw that all out the window and think they can win with brute force this time around, which has historically failed every single generation.

Nintendo may not have sold well last generation, but they're right when they say that the industry is growing at the same rate as the population. This means that gamers are still a small nerdy minority. The Wii is the only console out right now working to change that image by making gaming as a whole a more family-friendly experience. It makes YOU look like less of a nerdy loser, whether you have one or not.

And not every game has wacky gimmick controls. A lot of the early Wii games do to showcase the system and introduce it to the world, but games like Fire Emblem, Mortal Kombat, and Smash Bros. will all use GameCube controllers and/or Classic Controllers. Now the Wii is not only getting a good variety of games, but it has a good variety of controllers you can use. Variety is always good.

@ All those screaming Kiddie bullshit

Grow the fuck up. Seriously. If all of you are so insecure in your masculinity that you need to play nothing but bloodpath FPSs and GTA-clones you've got some serious problems. 'Hardcore' is NOT limited to adult games. Hardcore gamers are dedicated to their hobby and passionate enough about it that they don't give a fuck whether a game has bright, shiney colors or buckets of blood. What matters is the game itself and the art of the gameplay.

If you're playing games for the violence and blood, then please, commit yourself. Because all we need is some whiney little GTA-obsessed moron to go all columbine on us and blame video games.

@ OTAM

Just off the top of my head, Animal Crossing DS, Mario Kart DS, New Super Mario Bros, Advanced Wars DS, Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow and the other one (Potrait something), Trauma Center, and Nintendogs. All these games, with the possibility of NSMB (disappointly short), require hours of dedication. Some require big skills (Trauma Center) and others do not (Nintendogs, AC).

But if you reaaally want countless hours of gameplay and challenge, buy Advance Wars DS. Throughout all the difficulty options, missions, battle maps, COs to level up, and medals to earn, the game just never ends and just gets more and more difficult.

It annoys me to no end when people claim DS is nothing but Cooking Momas and Wariowares. I have a DS and PSP, and quite frankly I think the DS is much more hardcore, even if it has a boatload of casual games for it.

Furthermore...

@ All those claiming Wii is only for casuals

This is just nonsense. Sure, the Wii has mostly been a casual-game machine right now, but that's because it's still young. Have you people forgotten about Super Smash Brothers Brawl? Super Mario World Galaxy? Metroid?

Nintendo may be reaching for a new market, but clearly they haven't forgotten about us either.

And finally...

@ All those claiming Super Paper Mario is 'just another platformer'

Did any of you even WATCH the friggin' clip? The point is that it is NOT just another platformer. The ability to switch between 2D and 3D is innovative and, if properly executed, could make Super Paper Mario one hell of a fun/creative game to play.

It could be argued that New Super Mario Brothers was 'just another platformer.' That's fine, but Super Paper Mario isn't, that is why it is getting such a large amount of attention. I don't know if it will meet the hype, I'm just saying.

Ahh, it's fun screaming at fanboy nonsense. It's a nice break from homework. Speaking of which...

this argument is stupid... different games are for different people... i personally don't give a flip about halo or gta or gears of war or gran tourismo... they aren't my kind of games... in fact i don't even really care THAT much about mario galaxy either... but i will be buying super paper mario tomorrow morning... i had an xbox and a ps2 each for about 3 months and hardly played them... i play the wii a lot, both wii sports and VC games... my fiancee and i sit and play old mario and donkey kong for a couple hours, or play wii sports with friends and family... we are both excited about getting to play this game tomorrow... but we just play once a week or so as a chill out and relax together time...

everyone has different opinions and i don't understand why everyone has to make it such a huge deal...

just play games when you want to play, and play whatever YOU like and don't worry about what game someone else likes...

i am one of few that really enjoy a couple of the games on WiiPlay, i am glad i bought it... it's simple, i can play the games for a few minutes and then go do something else... i don't want to think too long on a game...

@max:
@BPM:

BPM, I wouldn't be so quick to make fun of "max." I will agree that there is a 3D mode, if you will of this game. However, don't forget that unlike what basic mathematics teaches the point of axes is really only defined by the user. That is to say you can redefine any coordinate system according to your variables such that you can swap x,y, and z as long as it is consistent with one's data.

Furthermore, if you rotate the axes for Cartesian Coordinates, then one could say that they all are referring to different planes. Really the values x,y, and z are place holders for the data which they describe.

If you really want to take it up a notch, you could refer to circular, cylindrical, spherical, intrinsic, Plucker, complex, multidimensional, etc. coordinate systems, where all of the axes change.

One could also say that "max" is correct in his assumptions about being in the "z-y" plane if you look at it from a cross-sectional point of view. To further explain, since the game renders the 3D space such that you can never move forward or backward into the space; however, rather the space moves through you, Mario could then be said to be stuck in the z-y plane, though he can propagate in the x-direction. This means that Mario can switch between moving in the x-y plane to being stuck in the y-z plane though being able to have the x plane propagate through him.

It's really all a matter of perspective and how you look at things both literally and figuratively.

Redefining coordinates:

z
|_ y
/
x

y
|_ x
/
z

etc... =)

I don't get why people think the Wii is somehow "damaging the industry" because it doesn't require upgraded graphics.

If Wii games all have the same level of graphics then the developers wil need to innovate or improve another area of their game to make it stand out from the crowd and SELL COPIES.. which, after all, is what they want.

With other consoles they can simply regurgitate the same game agin, but with "next gen" graphics. That is damaging to the industry. Not that all developers will.. and the games that are remembered in a few years will be the ones with the new ideas and great gameplay.. not the ones with the great (but now dated) graphics).

Think of movies.. when have SFX ever saved a bad movie from being bad? Never. But when have good stories, acting and characters saved a movie with bad SFX? All the time. Then again.. the ideal is to have great everything.

@steve: you still sond like you are a twelve year old trying to prove how "adult" he is. I don't get why a game's graphical style implies how "kiddie" it is. PM has a unique, interesting, artistic graphical style.. much like killer7, The Incredibles, Sin City, Viewtiful joe or Street Fighter. none of those are "kiddie".

First off, kudos to the people that took up my challenge and posted their photos. Hat's off to 'em! I'm glad that they put their money where their mouth is and are happy with their gaming. Good for them! Seriously.

Secondly, I own a Wii and do enjoy it. My wife and I enjoyed playing Rayman together, but that's about it. Sports is good for a workout but little more (would be fun at a party though) and Zelda just doesn't engage us that much. COD 3 for the Wii is a hammerd piece of crap.

Anyways, I hate ultra-violent games like GTA more than any game type out there. Might shock you but it's true. The problem I have with Mario is that I PERSONALLY don't like it, and my original complaint was simply my opinion, and you know what they say about opionions. My wife loves Mario and plays Mario on our DS all the time, and I'm sure she'll want Mario Galaxy when it comes out.

The problem I have with the Wii is that I keep looking towards the bigger consoles, like the PS3, and wishing my Wii had games that looked like that and were more themed like the other two consoles' games. Games like Warhwak and Lair just don't seem to be coming to the Wii anytime in the future that I can see. So bascially, I'm angry that the Wii, so far, won't satisfy me as being my only console, and that I'll have to drop even MORE money on a different console to play the games I want to play.

But I haven't given up hope on the Wii....yet.
