ESRB leaks 'Quake III: Team Arena' for Xbox 360 (XBLA?)
The ESRB is always a great place to spot upcoming Xbox Live Arcade titles with the word "arena" in the title (Wing Commander Arena, anyone?). Without the enormous lead times of their retail counterparts (see Shadowrun above), these digitally distributed darlings will often sneak in under the radar. Take the Xbox 360 listing for Quake III: Team Arena above. The 1999 multiplayer classic would be a perfect fit for the Xbox Live service (right alongside older brother DOOM), and the newly enlarged 150MB size limit could make it a possibility. Or maybe this is just a retail port, though we can't imagine it faring well in today's competitive FPS environment.
We've asked Microsoft and Pi Studios to comment on the listing.

xbox360!?!! SCREW THAT!!!!

quake 3 on a console will suck, and it's made by some offshoot of Raven (Raven made Quake 4 and that was so very mediocre)

Sounds great! I hated the game on PC because all the insanely accurate railgunners. At least with a gimped controller, I'd be able to survive for 5 seconds maybe.
Draco @ Apr 9th 2007 6:41PM
This game was a Dreamcast and PS2 wasn't it?
ActionJackson @ Apr 9th 2007 7:04PM
The new size limit is 150 MB, not 250 MB, which Joystiq keeps (mis)reporting.
MooseMuffin @ Apr 9th 2007 7:21PM
Quake 3 is far too fast of a game for console controllers. The port may be perfect, but it won't be the same game.

Oh really now?

Very cool. I always liked Quake 3 Arena better than Unreal Tournament. Although I really like both of them. If this is true I'll be getting it.

looks like xbla is the place to be

@MGSLOL
Funny, because I don't recall seeing anything about 250 MB from the official press release.

Oh wait MGS, everything posted on 1UP is always true! lol.
RUSKULL @ Apr 9th 2007 8:25PM
ok, as cool as this may seem, this game only really meets it's fast and frantic potential with keyboard and mouse. Sorry, but it's true. BTW, huge fan, even owned TA back in the day, so not trying to hate on this.

Anyone else remember when Q3A was on dreamcast how awff the hook it was? A fun game is a fun game, and for an XBLA title, it'd be perfect.
Grant @ Apr 9th 2007 10:10PM
Say what you will, but i played both the pc and dreamcast versions, and once you got used to the highest controller sensitivity level, they were practically the same. the problem is people never tweak the settings to get the most out of their games.
i started playing halo 2 at a friends house the other day, with sensitivity set at default, the game was unbearable and slow until i fixed it.
Champloo @ Apr 9th 2007 10:45PM
Ok, this is just plain awesome. Quake 3 Arena is my all-time favorite FPS game. For me, before there was Halo, there was Q3A. I'm looking forward to this.
LilBlackDemon00 @ Apr 9th 2007 11:38PM
What about the file size? Q3A + Team Arena was well over 1GB when installed, so I'm curious as to how well they're going to compress everything. The last thing I want to see is all low-res textures at 1080p.
Dr.Cox @ Apr 10th 2007 1:14AM
Whats this? An argument backed up with actual links? BLASPHEMY!
SeriousKriss @ Apr 10th 2007 4:27AM
@ Grant : if they were practically the same, how come the scores on the DC/PC servers were always around 50 to 3 in favor of KB/M users?
Hikiki @ Apr 10th 2007 8:02AM
I can't see the fast gameplay of Q3 ported to a 360 controller being fun. Same can be said about Unreal Tournament 3. Microsolf should really thing about mouse and keyboard support in game.
C. Grant @ Apr 10th 2007 11:53AM
I fixed the link and updated the (now incorrect) link. Thanks for being persistent, ActionJackson!

Meh, you can just boot up your Dreamcast and play this online on some pirate servers.
jsundoth @ Apr 10th 2007 10:26PM
This game rocked on the dreamcast. Bring it on!
