Another reason why I want to give every corporate asshat running Gamestop a kick in the nuts. I'm so glad I don't work there, that would be horrible, you wouldn't even be able to avoid the spoilers.

Hmm.. lets see:

Ganon is revealed to be the real villian..
Link and Ganon duke it out..
Link wins..
Zelda and Hyrule are saved..

Same formula since LTTP... they're not spoiling anything.

I agree with you but its the principle.

I would be pissed if they showed the ending of Gears or Resistance so I know how the Zelda fans feel.

Yeah... With all there stories and practices I've heard over the past 6 months... I think I'm officially done buying from there. After realizing how much shit they pull, how they only receive enough copies to fill preorders to simulate "demand", selling "new" games opened, selling used games $5 killing the industry, and now this? Absolutely ridiculous. The game hasn't even been out six months yet. I'd understand showing Aerith's death scene now... I mean, it's been like 10 years, but TP's ending? Harsh.

Despite knowing that Best Buy makes a killing on selling you extended warranties (which are an option I guess), I like the idea that I can go to there or Target to pick up the latest game, hassle free.

fuck gamestop.

Actually, think how much this sucks for the rank and file. I mean, At least we have the option of not going to Gamestop if we want. We can order online, or just pop in and out of the store at an appropriate time.

But you know the GS employees are gamers, too. And they're all stuck there, forced to see a game spoiled for them. How would you like that as apart of your job description - get paid close to minimum wage, get treated like dirt by the customers, and have parts of video games spoiled for you.

It's not often GameStop can make life more onerous for customers and effectively kick their employees in the family jewels at the same time. I'm frankly amazed at this one.

I heard about this when I went to Gamestop the other day. The guys working there said the store manager came in and saw the spoilers running and shut the damn TV off. According to them, she said "I haven't beat that game yet!"

I later found out she got in trouble for it. :(

Reading the game manual spoils the game for me. If I knew all the vehicles, guns and enimies before I played the game there would no excitement to play. Knowing how the game ends is just as bad as knowing how a movie would end.

I hate Gamestop with a passion. I refuse to buy there anymore after consistently being screwed over the local Gamestop management. I'm willing to pay a little more at BestBuy or Target just to avoid that sand trap.

I personally work at an eb games, and when I first walked into the store on the 2nd, I was pissed off, to say the least. Though I have personally beaten the game, I know there are those out there that have not. So, when our manager left for the day, we put on Invader Zim instead.

What I said on the GameFAQs topic originally.

Someone should time it right so when it's playing, a person walks up the counter, begins to start asking for the game, sees the ending, says "Dammit!" and claims there's no more point in buying the game anymore.

THIS is exactly why i buy my games exclusively at the independent game stores, and living in NYC, there's one atleast every 20 blocks. I just can't believe the sh** the GS and EB employees have to go through.

First Zelda, then eventually Gears, and It'll just keep going until you're about to preorder a game and they just show you the spoiler on the screen!

Thanks for the read, Nathan.

Head of GameStop, regarding trade-ins: "Look. If you don't play those games anymore, then why do you keep them? Wouldn't you like to get a tiny fraction of your money back for them? And besides, it's not like people collect video games or something. I mean, whoever heard of a video game collection?"

Only proving how out-of-touch he is with the video game consumer.

I really hate how they're the only store in the country that I can still get old games in. Well, some of them. They still charge over the retail value price for Shadow of the Colossus, Katamari Damacy, etc. It's a shame I only just got a PS2 for the first time. I have to work hard to get seven years' worth of games I've missed.

I saw they did this with Ninja Gaiden on X-box, I was like "Wow, saved me money on buying it on X-box." If they want to show us the ending to a game, make it an ending to a game with a sequel soon to be released, like... "Hey, God of War 2 is coming, if you missed it, here's the ending of God of War 1!" Or show us an ending everyone knows about by now, like MGS2, or even Final Fantasy VII... something if you don't know the ending by now, you were never interested to begin with.

@ Jack

"Reading the game manual spoils the game for me. If I knew all the vehicles, guns and enimies before I played the game there would no excitement to play. Knowing how the game ends is just as bad as knowing how a movie would end."

I agree. I don't read the manual, unless I need to know the controls for something. One thing that (unfortunately) I do, is if I'm stuck in a game... I will NOT look at a walk through (especially for an RPG) because if I know how far into the game I am, then it just doesn't seem as fun anymore.

So then I usually quit and come back 3-4 months later with no idea what's going on and I usually fail.

@topic

Lame. That's why I never go to this store. That, and they are located in the mall. And when I go to my mall, I'm bombarded by Chinese restaurants with "TRY A SAMPOL!!!oneone!"... And that annoys me to no end.

Ah to keep it spoiler free...

Something happens to someone at sometime and forces them to go somewhere.

There. Hope that didn't ruin it for anyone!

I dont see what the big deal is. Movie trailers have been showing clips from the end of movies for a very long time. Not only that, but the usually show most, if not all, of the best scenes in the movie.

This is just my opinion, but twilight princess is about 10hrs too long, and the ending was pretty lame. Dont get me wrong, overall the game is pretty good, but the ending was lame and the last 10hrs or so felt drawn out to expand the games playtime. And if its not too much to ask, can we have voice acting in the next game.

That's hideous. I can't believe that it was someone's good idea to run the ENDING to video games, especially really popular ones like Twilight Princess on the TV in Gamestop/EB.

I still sometimes go to EB to get good deals on used games. Some of the ones I missed out on a few years back are pretty cheap now (10-20 bucks). But I haven't bought a brand new game from EB since... Probably Haunting Ground on PS2 the week it came out.

Honestly I hate it, we advertised Resistance: Fall of Man for every single commercial break then say how well the Wii is doing. Now we're finally off that Resistance kick so maybe they could talk about something besides PS3, and they spoil the ending to TP. Yeah that's gonna make the games fly off the shelves now. Gamestop. Idiots.

Uhh... Games aren't movies. They're much more about the experience of the game than what happens at the end. And I'm a story whore and (except for SPOILER character's choice at the end) everyone and their mother knows what happens at the end of Twilight Princess: The same frickin' thing that happens at the end of every Zelda game!

Is it just me or is the real purpose of this post supposed to be driving the hate-on-GameStop movement? It's fine if it is but if so then this is a little disingenuous.

They don't need to spoil the ending to get people to trade in copies. Just give us more than a handful of pennies and pocket lint when we trade them in.

this is stupid. when your selling games you do not ruin it for the gamer and/or ruin your profits.

do you think someone who has 30+ hours in zelda but hasn't reached the end yet really wants to see their game spoiled when they are in buying another game?

do you think that someone in thinking about getting the game wants their game to be spoiled before they get into the game?

there are enough trailers and clips of the early dungeons (not many people care if the boss of the 1st dungeon is spoiled) and show link as a wolf in kakariko or epona riding across hyrule field (the part with the boar riders especially).

gamestop must suck badly (live in UK so never shopped at them, GAME is my place but if they ever screwed me up i'd use xtravision or argos, and then online).

Hello. This is JaydeWiz. I made the original post on GAMEFAQS that's referenced. I find it amazing that Joystiq linked to that post. I didn't imagine it would get that much hype. I was just trying to warn a few people. I figured some would say, "eh, ok." and go on with life. I never imagined it would get this big. I hope I am doing the world some kind of service by bringing this up. On gameFAQS, I will keep everyone updated if our EBTV DVD has another ending next month.

Hey. I'm the one from GameFAQs that originally started the thread. I didn't realize it would make this much rukus. I hope I did the world a favor by bringing this to everyone's attention. While the GS/EBGames bashing is a little uncalled for (as I do work there afterall) I can unserdtand everyone's feelings about the ending being spoiled. I will try to keep everyone updated through GameFAQs if next month there is another ending on the video.

I think I understand what GS is trying to do. They are obviously trying to forcibly control the market of game. It sounds so much like a plot out of a comic book. Evil Genius: "I will strategically acquire all of (X natural resource) THEN I can charge an exuberant amount of money for something I bought a quarter of the original price... and make MILLIONS! MUAHAHAHAH!" (Probably said in thick German or Russian accent)

Zelda is an undoubtedly a classic in the making. So by the natural trend of the market, even if desire for the game diminishes with the current gamer community, there is a new generation of gamers right behind them who will come in looking for the game and value and popularity will remain stable... In this case they are going out of there way to reduce interest in the game/resource in question by spoiling it for several of the current market gamers so they can buy it back at an even lower cost. Except in addition to the trend GS will sit on every copy they can grab and thus diminishing the available product increasing demand. Which we all know leads to higher market value…. And make MILLIONS! MUAHAHAHAHA!

There is practically a Game Stop or EB Games in every major mall in US now taking in trade-ins. It is very easy to see them accomplishing the task.

Every Final Fantasy game:

The true villain is revealed...
You fight the true villain...
You win...
The world is saved...

OMG theyz all teh same!!!1!

Oh wait, that has nothing to do with the story or the ending. Idiot.

That's half the series that doesn't have Ganon as the bad guy.

I don't see how this will push sales of a game. I mean, it might get people to trade a game in, but odds are they will never go there again.

*Spoiler*

Once you beat both games when you linked then you would find out that Twinrova was trying to revive Gannon. They then Sac'ed themselfs like a Black deck player in MtG to revive him, but he came back twisted and stupid. So in a way he's responsable for the problems in the two games.
*end spoiler*

Funny thing is I just got a email from Gamestop while reading. I entered a contest for a Wii back before I got one. I think Ill go mark it as spam.

I went to Gamestop and saw the ending to Zelda Twilight Princess and didn't even pay close attention to it. I have the game for Gamecube and haven't yet beat it. If I didn't have the game and saw the ending of the game, I would probably buy the game knowing the ending is ruined for me. Think about strategy guides that you buy for a game, they give away the story, bosses, secrets, maps, etc. so that it takes away from actually playing the game and exploring stuff for yourself. I walk into Gamestop and see the ending to God of War 2, I will be upset since thats another game I have not beaten. I will still shop at Gamestop but try not to look at the endings.
