Microsoft has confirmed that the
Gears of War auto-update, featuring the
Annex gametype, will be available today at 4:00 p.m. PDT via Xbox Live. The now official Annex details mirror those released (and subsequently pulled) by Epic
last week -- it's still just 'King of the Hill'. Here are the additional update tweaks:
- VGA cable support: monitor resolution widths greater than or equal to 1280 now render as letterbox; VGA users running at 1280x1024 will now see the game in full 720p (1280x720) resolution in letterboxed form.
- Adjusted Assassination gametype: leader no longer has to unlock weapons and now has to be executed to die
- Adjusted Boomshot: splash damage to be more effective rendering targets down-but-not-out
- Adjusted Hammer of Dawn: aiming will be more forgiving of moving targets
- Adjusted Roadie Run: reduced frequency of accidentally grabbing cover while running
- Kill message ticker: ticker can now be seen while down-but-not-out and spectating
- General: addressed a number of possible exploits in multiplayer

Why did you feel it necessary to say "it's still just King of the Hill". It's one more 'free' game type that you didn't have before. Making those backhanded comments make you sound like a fanboi.

Well, the way the statement came across to me was that he was minimizing the new game type to the point of saying no one should be excited about the new 'free' game type because its 'just' King of the Hill. Thus my comment calling his statement 'backhanded'.
If that was not his intention then I apologize and stand corrected. But if that was his intention then I stand by my first post.
And just to clarify I do understand that Annex is Epic's version of KotH ;)

Yes, 11pm GMT. Or UTC if you prefer the more nouveau style of timekeeping. But really it's a military game, so let's just say 2300 Zulu.
To clarify, no, not 11pm eastern, but 11pm England, where GMT is the local timezone, at the Greenwich (or "prime") meridian, which if you remember your geography classes is zero degrees longitude.

if u can't get the update, go to your console settings and test youur xbox live connection. sign back in, put in the disk, and u should have the update.
by the way annex is a great mode!

Odd. I seemed to be a walking magnet in the last few games I played. Though, it might have something to do with how little I've played it thanks to Guitar Hero II, Call of Duty 3 and GRAW2.
Or maybe it's because in GoW I lag so damn much. Really, why is it I can play a 24 player game of CoD3 with no lag; but when I jump into GoW I have a two second delay from when I push the trigger until the bullets hit?
Bloody Australia. Someone needs to move this landmass closer to the US. Or increase the speed of light (Electricity).

yeah man, i know. i started playing today and it didnt seem like that got fixeed, in fact, im pretty sure it got worse. im really pissed at them for fixing weapon sliding- it was a "stylish" way of curbstomping ppl.
all the annex games ive played ended in chainsaw fests.

I gotta agree with the "wall magnet" statement. All i do is get stuck all the time. And once again, good riddance to weapon sliding. I just played 10 games of Warzone and won them all. Have fun playing fair cheaters!

The update seems laggy as all hell. And since all onscreen action is hostside, it makes the host that much quicker. It also feels like the range for shotguns has increased and some old glitches remain (ie. climbing up on invisible ledges). I wish there were dedicated Live servers. It seems dumb playing alongside host in 2007. It was acceptable back in 1992, but not now.

There are two main things that are bad with this new patch. Number one: Glitches can still be done, just with new button combos. Number two: The kills you get in the Annex game type do not go towards your achievements.

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to have been improved at all. It seems worse now. I used to be able to run all the way to the gernades in Old Bones but now I get stuck on the door on the way out or the cover area in the middle of the hallway. A minor annoyance.
Annex was kinda boring. I don't like the respawns and the game takes FOREVER! I play first to five and it took one hour and my team only won one round.
The nice thing about it though is that it seems all the "kiddies" like this game mode, so it makes playing warzone or execution a lot more fun for an older individual who want to play with mature players.
