Don't worry. Even though it doesn't have a price, a release date, or even a name, the QWERTY thumb keyboard that Microsoft has taken to calling the "text input device" is very much real (not just a rendering), as evidenced by these shots posted at Microsoft's Gamerscore Blog. It wraps around the handles and attaches to the gamepad using the headset connector; unfortunately, as confirmed by Engadget, the device does not enable pass-through of the headset and will instead ship with its own unique headset.

"Why wasn't the Nintendo DS backlit to begin with?"
Did you ever even touch a DS in your life? The DS had lighting from the get go, they just made it smaller, and LIGHTER with the Lite, and also a brighter screen.

Thing is though the 360 is lacking a browser, even the PS3/Wii's have one! :)

"No, it's called not holding certain companies to higher expectations than others. All I was saying was that EVERY company is guilty of gouging in one way or another. Microsoft is no better, no worse.
Fact of the matter is, we don't even know what ms will charge for the keyboard, but you kids are already accusing them of gouging, and persecuting them for it."
But it's irrelevant. This article is about Microsoft. It's not a matter of holding them to higher standards. It's a matter of voicing concerns about the topic at hand. I'm not saying this will be expensive, but going on precedent, it's expected. If this were an article on the pricing of Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo products in general, I would point out that Nintendo is overcharging for a console that is basically an over-clocked, slightly more powerful GameCube with a ridiculously small amount of internal memory and hardly any support for external memory devices and that Sony is grossly overcharging for a video game console just so they can get their stupid movie format into our living rooms.

Did I say ds? I meant GBA. My bad.
I love it when people dwell on one trivial detail, and ignore everything else.

If you say so...
"This article is about Microsoft."
No shit Sherlock.
"It's not a matter of holding them to higher standards."
You're right, it's a matter of holding them to the SAME standards.
"It's a matter of voicing concerns about the topic at hand."
If releasing a qwerty keyboard for those who want it concerns you, so be it. Like others have said, nothing is stopping you, or others, from using a standard keyboard. This is just for those who want it. Hardly worth getting all hot and bothered about.
"I'm not saying this will be expensive"
Oh really?
"but going on precedent, it's expected."
So wait, first you say it won't be expensive, then you say it will be? Which one is it?
I am required to point out that you couldn't respond to my counter points as far as pricing goes. Instead, you chose to ignore them completely. I took the time and effort to respond to your argument, piece by piece, but I can see I shouldn't expect the same from you.
Maybe you should stick to speaking for other people, and ignoring things you have no rebuttal to.
You seem to be good at that.
