Take 360 Guitar Hero flaw into your own hands
Let's say you're one of those who ended up with a bum 360 Guitar Hero II controller. Sure, you could return it like Red Octane suggested, but what's rock 'n' roll about letting the man care for you? Nothing, that's what. Luckily for those who rock on their own schedule, All About the Games has posted a purported fix that requires little more than opening your axe and loosening two uptight screws.
The site does state that the fix won't void your warranty, though we'll offer a reminder that you shouldn't operate on the guitar while it's plugged in. But come on, you rebels, isn't that exactly the sort of thing the man would want you to worry about? Are you going to wait for the man to pat your head and give you a lollipop or are you going to pull a Brian May and tear the fireplace out of the wall and get rocking?
[Thanks, Brigham]
[Update: Ruh roh. Looks like someone didn't pay their hosting fees! All About the Games is currently down and their repair guide along with 'em. We'll update as soon as it seems like things are back to normal. Update 2: And we're back!]

Site's been Joystiqed?
Probot @ Apr 9th 2007 5:57PM
Site works fine for me. Although it's useless to me since I don't have a 360.

Nope, I tried numerous positions but it doesn't fix the problem with me. :-(

I tried numerous positions too.
WTB manual for getting this unlodged from my fun-factory.
Good Article Justin! Can't wait to try this joint out when I get home. Thanks

tried it as well. worked for me. although my screws weren't black and they were covered in glue. wasn't too hard to scrap it away enough to loosen them.

works.

Nice, I'm definitely doing this tomorrow when I get home. Nothing more annoying than positioning that stupid whammy bar correctly, just so I could use it.
Rondo @ Apr 9th 2007 8:36PM
I have both a 55 and a 65...both had faulty whammy bars. I tried this fix and both now work perfectly fine!
BTW - one of the models has black screws and the other has goldish-silver ones covered in glue, you can modify both easily though.

If you're going to crack it open, you might as well crack open a wireless controller and transfer its guts into your guitar...
Smacksmackums @ Apr 9th 2007 9:39PM
Mine were covered in glue - 065.
I had adjusted earlier but I stripped one of the screws because there was too much glue and I couldn't get a good grip in there.
Anyway, it still works quite well. I was able to adjust with only loosening one screw.
I'm still thinking about returning it in a couple weeks maybe, after the good guitars get to market.

I got GH2 for Christmas and the controller was defective. I tried exchanging it for weeks to no avail (I guess it was kind of popular or something =). Then one night me and a friend had a few beers and decided that it wouldn't hurt to take it apart and play Mr. FixIt. We found that the only way the strum mechanism is attached to the main board is by some shoddy hot glue which had come loose. Then, by my own stroke of brilliance, we heated the blade of a utility knife with a Zippo and pressed it against the glue to effectively reattatch it. We were rocking out before midnight.
I guess my point is that no matter how great you think something is it's probably a piece of crap on the inside.
PapaChabre @ Apr 9th 2007 10:49PM
Oh by the way, I'm sure you could have guessed this - it was GH2 for PS2. I still think it is relevent.

I can tell from what you write that you really know your way around a set of tools. It's refreshing to read something written by someone who is obviously a handy-man and not just some spud, sitting around playing video games, drinking Jolt Cola, and eating Hot Pockets.

@zerocorpse, can't the wiring is different in it. it would take some serious modding skillz to do it.
VOG @ Apr 10th 2007 1:39PM
OMG it works!!! Great job figuring this out!!!
Oh wait, I don't play this game. lol
