This is a pretty important issue to get out in the open, because if you've got a defective PS3 but it hasn't exploded yet, this'll be a good way to test it out. A recent batch of 60GB PS3's have been reportedly letting out a high-pitched whine noise, coming straight from the hardware. Someone at the PlayStation forums returned one console and got another with the same probelm, then returned that and got the same problem again. After doing some talking back and forth on the forums, the problem lies within January 2007 manufactured units with "CE133190xxx and CE133212xxx" serial number series.
So guys, check your systems if you've gotten your recently, listen for whatever noise they're talking about (seems like a faulty fan/cooling system as many complaints are also of heat) and do what's gotta be done. We've got to admit though, we're proud of Sony for not having any gigantic hardware problems up to this point. This isn't a big one, but it's definitely worth warning you about. I'd warn my friends, but, I'm the only person I know who has one. Le sigh.
