You took the words right out of my mouth.

Honestly, as much as I loathe Gamestop, if you really really want a Wii and can't find one, you could definitely do worse than this bundle. That's if you really really want one.

Me? I've pumped well over $700 into my Wii so far (including controllers, games, cables, and VC points) and I probably play the thing two or three times a month, when my parents come and visit. So, in the grand scheme of things, $550 ain't all that bad. Still, I do think the damn thing is waaaay overrated.

I think these are fine, they actually discount you the price off of all the products together slightly enough, and it's proven to still be legal with some comparisons of other products. Say a car dealer has a base model car, but they don't have any in stock, and they only have the deluxe model that costs 5000 bucks more in stock, and say that's the only way they can sell it for a few months because of shortages. They give you a 500 buck discount for being forced into buying the more expensive model. This happens ALL THE TIME. Why do you guys not like the free marketplace? They are giving you a discount on the overall package, and (rightfully) charging a bit more for shipping potentially twice the weight in product. I know I usually play devil's advocate over here, but it's better than playing one-sided hack.

I can tell you that Super Paper Mario is DEFINTLY worth the purchase of a Wii, and I'm only two hours in. In other news, getting a 200% markup with games and gear you don't need is pretty bootleg, but I guess you can't expect that much more from GameStop

Joystiq, this title is a MASSIVE LIE. It should say "Wii bundle" instead of "Wii".

There's nothing difficult about manufacturing the console either. The only difficult thing is keeping them on the shelves before they literally fly off.

@Petey

If I was the editor and you kept insulting me, I'd delete your posts too. This isn't an issue of free speech but you're out right trying to be offensive with someone who lets you post on these threads. It's along the lines of why a cop might arrest you if you decide to cuss him out. Sure you have free speech, but you also don't have the right to blatantly violate someone's personal rights through foul language. There are other ways to get your point across without being vulgar.

@Seedy

Heh. I hope that's sarcasm you're giving off. I think at this point there are only a few options to get a rare and elusive Wii... expensive bundle, eBay, or lurking around the loading docks at your nearby retailer.

Reminds me of the DS shortage way back in the olden days of 2004, how stores were taking consumers for a ride back then.

It should be illegal to sell bundles. ...Forcing me to buy a bunch of shit I don't want,just to get the one thing i do want.

Besides for $549 I can buy another 360, GoW, and a router to make for some awesome systemlink gaming with my friends.

What a ripoff...

Clearly Nintendo are the OPEC of the gaming world... How hard can it possibly be to duct tape 2 game cubes together?

Joking (and baseball analogies, not everyone on the net lives in the USA) aside, think of cars: 360 and PS3 are the flash expensive sports cars and the Wii is the little car. They can never be in direct competition, ever. Its like comparing the number of Aston Martins sold to the number of Ford Mondeos, its a meaningless comparison, as is comparing the technical stats of those cars.

GameStop must not like money

"Hey, lets take the hottest thing in the world, throw in a bunch of crap people may not want, and force them to buy it!"

They got some real winners running things, woo...

Shortages are partially forced, I'm sure, and since people can't try out the machine in stores (I haven't seen a playable game in a Wii in a store since November of last year) and are blindly over-excited about, tons of people go and buy it without having playing anything besides a game or two at most, if that. Their games lineup is the most awful thing in major console gaming history, people buy it because of the novelty and a lot of them just justify keeping it because they already paid a bunch of money for it and don't want to go through the trouble of selling it. I sold mine after it literally sat without being turned on for 4 months, and I had lots of games, they all suck, as does their future lineup. Also, to whoever doesn't believe, there are literally dozens of arcade games that have motion sensing and some are from the 90's.

Shortages and inability to try out systems leads to increased demand. Nintendo's empty promises also fuel sales, I'm sure, when they promise such grandiose things for the system and none of them have actually lived up to it. No connectivity for DS, worthless download service with shitty old games that provide no experience past what you could get playing them on any emulator, where games for XBLA provide tons of new content even if it is an old game. I can go on for days on how the entirity of Wii sales is complete novelty but anyone who has half a level head on their shoulders can figure it out for themselves.

Several things:

1) Comparing the tech specs of the Wii to the 360 and PS3 is completely unfair to the Wii. They (PS3 and 360) are meant to be hi-def monster machine, traditional consoles. Sure, so the Wii can only put out 480p (or is it 720? I'm not 100% sure). The graphical power isn't the point of the system. The point of the Wii is a system anyone can pick up and enjoy - from six year old siblings to seventy year old grandparents.

2)I am one of those people who want a Wii, but don't have one yet. This is for a two fold reason - I can't afford it, and even if I could probably couldn't find one for a while. However, I will survive until I can (and that point will probably be much closer to the release of Prime 3).

3) As far as those who say the third party games "suck". Yes, traditionally, Nintendo's official games have been significantly better quality than the third party titles. I can think of a very good reason for this - they built the system, and thus understand it better. However, don't discount all third party titles - some of them are nearly on par/on par with the official ones. That's just the way the gaming industry works

4) As far as the HD comments go, HD tvs are still too expensive for most middle/working class families to afford. Until they become cheap enough (with prices more equal to those of standard tvs) then talking about HD resolution and Blueray should be a moot point. What is the point of an expensive system if you have to spend another grand or two just to see it's full power? And please don't call me a Nintendo fan boy - I've seen a friend's PS3 on a twenty year old tv - and I'll admit it's decently sharp.

5)PC does have the absolute in graphical quality. Take for one example Oblivion - better on the PC than the 360. And for those that don't like using a mouse and keyboard - there are plenty of PC "console style" controllers around that you can buy. If anything, a PC is far easier to fix for "next gen" games, as all you need to do is add more memory, maybe a new video card/processor and your fine. All this can be accomplished for about two three hundred dollars - cheaper than the 360 or PS3. And, soon blueray and hd-dvd drives should start coming out (if they haven't already) so that should make that feature of the consoles a moot point.

6) Finally, what is the point with getting an all around system when there are much easier ways of pulling the same thing off - stand alone players, cables to connect a computer to a tv, a flat panel for your computer... The all in ones aren't all that useful. The Wii has the right idea here - it's a game machine, and that's it. Not a multimedia system.
