Microsoft Fanboy: Gutar Hero and other games suck if they are on Wii! Wii cannot download extra content, but we can!

Yes, unless you have very deep pockets.

Old games. Sure they are overpriced but you dont have to download it, they are not needed. But why the heck am I paying for shit that should have been in the game in the first place?

@53, Could you point me in the direction of the sales for horse armor versus other oblivion content. As I recall it hasn't been released. But I do recall on many forums that more people bought the other downloadable content which wasn't as proportionally expensive. Horse armor was really the first step into downloadable content, they were going in blind and adjusted future prices accordingly.

Yes, i am happy to pay for online, .137 of a cent a day. If the Playstation 3 comes out with a service that does EVERYTHING Live does, possibly more so for free without being plastered with ads, then yes I can see this being a valid point. But nothing has been shown yet, you act as if their service is already in place.

Were happy to buy the elite? Its not out yet, and it hasnt been widely accepted.

So please just do this for me, dont alk about stuff you dont know and i wont talk about stuff i dont know. i dont have a ps3, but you dont see me criticizing anything about it that isnt widely known.

Honestly, both are a GREAT BARGAIN, if your smoking CRACK.

I love Xbox Live, I think it's a great service. The pricing on some of the content baffles me though. I don't know how they can justify 3 songs, songs they ported from the old game, for the same price as a full Arcade game.

*Maybe* if these were songs we never saw in Guitar Hero before I could swallow the 500pt price. For now, I'll just pop in GH1 if I'm hankering to play Bark at the Moon.

I don't think the pack prices are unreasonable. They're only twice the price of a song along, that's not too bad.

However, I think that it is suffering from what I will call the "Gran Turismo HD" problem. That is, they made packs priced to ensure they make a profit off of people who only want 1 or 2 songs, and then people total up all the packs to get the price of the whole set.

Activision should make some larger packs with cheaper per-song pricing so that people who want all (or a lot) of GH1 can get it at a more reasonable price, perhaps $40-$50 total.

D:
I'm really disappointed in you, you had a good point about MS has already inculcated in Live customers that everything costs money. And then you go off on a weird tangent about how 360's HDMI isn't as good as PS3's. Lame.

If DLc was priced appropriately, Microsoft would do ten times the business they're doing in the xbl marketplace.

As it stands all they're doing is positioning themselves to play catch-up to someone else trying to beat them at their own strategy. All Sony needs to do is step in to their DLC service with reasonable pricepoints and MS is going to look like they're the ones out of touch with the consumer.

You know, I'd probably pay that for NEW songs, but GH1 tracks should be much cheaper.

As has been said by many people. $100 for the GH1 songlist is too much, and not being able to choose individual songs is crap.

pete, you win stupidest comment award. Because... You see... The PS3, sony decided that they had a better idea for the controllers and half assed their input system. Sooo while you can technically play GH2 on PS3... you can't play it with a guitar.

But yes, I hate to tell you all, but this is Activision's doing, Not Microsoft. Don't believe me? Then recall, if you will Xbox 360 launch. $60 games that were simple ports of Last Gen games. Tony Hawk, GUN, and so on... Published by Activision. MS may have told them.. "No you cant give these out free" But MS hardly dictates that they have to rape their customers. With Gears content.... yes MS runs the show because they paid for the game. Blinders may be fun, but assumeing you know everything is more fun. Truth is we don't know... but I suspect Activision as they have proven to be better at ripping us off then MS in the past.

And finally Stop saying this is just an encryption key for stuff already on the disk. The packs are 30 MB each. That's plenty enough for a good quality compressed song, and a lil bit of code for the engine.

Ridiculously high cost, especially considering we paid close to $100 for the game and controller. These songs should be $1 a piece max. This really stinks of a rip-off.

A. Until I can plug my Steel Battalion controller into my Xbox 360 or use my $30 controller instead of the $50 variant, shut the hell up on this matter. You know shit and it shows.

B. USB to PS2 controller port adapters are fairly old news and the guitars have been up and working since before christmas. Check some import shops or just find one of the converters that feature a "Home" button. So once again, you know shit and it shows.

C. How is getting rid of a controller port that has been in a console since the beginning of the family somehow halfassing? Hell, if anything, it's moving FORWARD. Considering PSX and PS2 are the only consoles in history to accept each others controllers, I don't see the issue. Now if an entire horizontal line of controller ports littered the console instead of the four USB ports, then I would take offense to that halfassed design or the return of the multitap.

One thing you guys should know is this - they added co-op tracks (like the bass line) to these GH1 songs. So it's not just downloads of the PS2 songs; there is additional stuff added to each song. This tempers the price slightly.

You can't blame microsoft for this one. This is ALL on activision. They have control over the Gears of War content because they published the game. This is a fully third-party product and thus the prices are set by the third party. This is completely asine and I most likely will not be buying the game at all now because of it. I've been waiting for them to release pricing to purchase the game because I figured it would be something like this. It's honestly even worse than I expected though... And remember, this is from the same people who release a game crippling patch to prepare for new content that they've still not released (Marvel: Ultimate Alliance). These, coupled with the horrible decision of the way to go with call of duty 3, and the fact that they never bother to release patches for their myraid of broken games, has boosted activision to the top of my compaines to avoid list.

To #113: The sega master system and the sega genesis used compatible controller ports (the same ones are on the atari 2600, 7800, and the 3DO for that matter). So apparently you don't know as much as you would like to believe you do...

Actually, the Sega Genesis and Master System shared the same plug (along with the Atari 2600 I believe) and you could use a Genesis controller on the Master System and vice versa (if you didn't mind losing some buttons). I used to do this when I only had one controller for my Genesis playing Sonic 2, my buddy playing as Tails had to use the Master System controller. For Sonic games it was just fine as you only needed one button anyways.

Well you see that would be a good argument except for the fact that GHII does not cost $100 to buy in store. So even if we treat GHI for the 360 as and entirely new game (which it's not) then the max it should cost should be same as GHII stand alone, which is like $50. Let alone the fact that there is no box, disc, So no matter how you look at it it's a greedy ripoff.

At least I can vote with my dollar here. I refuse to pay for this stuff...

and a big "screw you" to anyone who does. You're part of the problem. All of you console junkies don't understand that publishers CAN actually release free (or at least reasonably priced, since these require licenses) content, and you just bend over and take it. PC gamers have known (and enjoyed) this since the dawn of the internet, and those publishers extend the life of their titles longer. QUIT FEEDING THE LIVE NICKEL AND DIME MACHINE!

Okay, a little feedback from someone who got song pack 3 (and will get song pack 2, because he must have Killer Queen and Frankenstein).
I am currently working on five stars for all songs in medium. I can’t quite yet handle the fifth button when playing hard.

The download was about 35mb, and took about 6-8min to download. The downloaded songs show up in their own category (titled 'Downloaded Songs') underneath the ‘Bonus Songs’ list. Like the bonus songs, there is no ‘pay’ reward for completing a downloaded track.

I have never owned a PS2, or player Guitar Hero 1, so I was going in blind.
I downloaded Pack 3, so I got Higher Ground, Infected and Stellar. I chose Pack 3 because I wanted Higher Ground and my wife wanted to play Stellar.

Ironically, I’m not overly fond of Higher Ground. There is a small spoken piece in the song, which totally ruins it for me. I’m not 100% sure if that same spoken part is in the original (I certainly don’t remember it), but it’s badly done and doesn’t fit the song at all. Ironically, I fell in love with Infected – the one song nether of us particularly wanted. Stellar was solid and, while I was not moved, my wife really liked it.

I liked the note lines of the new songs. All three songs are different to play then the other pre-packaged songs, and are great to play. I found that Stellar was quite difficult, Higher Ground was about average and Infected was really easy, but REALLY fun.

Over all I’m happy with the pack, and still plan of grabbing Pack 2 when I get a few more points. I do think they are over priced.
I think they should drop the packs to 400pts each, or offer songs as singles for about 130pts.

Has anyone done any research into what it costs to license music? I ask because Red and Major Nelson said that it was partially due to license costs. I can tell you first hand that nobody in Licensing would license something for Xbox360 without getting both digital and traditional Rights. Further more, someone mentioned that these were not even performed by the Artists. That means that Red licensed Mechanical Rights and those are by far cheaper than Sync Rights; which is when the songs played in a different format from CD are performed by the Artists.

So it is all about Supply and Demand. Red Octane Supplies the crack and MS Demands you pay the money. :)

You kids are expecting to pay 99 cents like it's the frickin iTunes Music Store I guess. How much above 99 cents is interactivity with a song you love worth? Personally I'd pay 5 dollars PER SONG for Zeppelin or More than a Feeling.

I think MS is trying to pull th wool over everyone's eyes. The way it sounds to me is that it operates similar to CafePress, RedOctane either has to charge $6 for 3 songs or they get no money. OR MS wants money and RO wants to sell them for $1 each well MS wants their cut and thus ups the price.

I don't see why people compare this to the Wii downloads, from what I see of those you only pay for the 1 game you buy. And you get to keep that game forever.

Typical. A company that produces games for the 360 screws up royally, and everyone instantly jumps on the "OMG EVIL MICROSOFT LOL!" bandwagon. MS is a corporation, guys. Get used to it. I agree with several of the other comments here in that Sony would be doing the same thing if they were the ones who were ahead of the game.

Hell, with 'horses ass' attitudes of their marketing execs lately, I wouldn't be at all surprised if things would be worse with the PS3.

Microsoft isn't to blame. Don't boycott the 360, just boycott Red Octane if you're really that pissed.

Honestly, I think while the price is high, it IS worth the extra investment. Dropping a hundred bones on the ENTIRE library of GH1 songs is a bit ridiculous; nay, I dare say it's even absoludicrous. However.... why do you want to play that fucking Incubus song anyhow?

But I digress. These songs HAVE new content. The second track, for two-player back-to-back twin guitar attacks (which, in my humble opinion as a veteran of GH1 and GH2, is the best reason to own the game). "Fixed" hammer-ons and pull-offs, so now you don't feel like such a klutz slamming your way through Crossroads or Cowboys From Hell. And three... IT'S ON THE 360 OMFGWTF SO KOOL KTHX.

Douche move to package them together though. I mean, really... "Hey You" and "Bark at the Moon" in the same pack? Blasphemy!
