When we last reported on Mortal Kombat II for the PlayStation Network, we said it was coming out in March. Obviously that didn't happen as we're now deep into April and you have yet to punch someone in the crotch with the power of the internet. To make up for it, here is a fabulous joke that is guaranteed to mortify your opponents online. What is Liu Kang's favorite drink?

WATAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Hilarious. The ball breaking goodness arrives this Thursday as Mortal Kombat II will be available on the PlayStation Network for $4.99. It comes complete with online play, so be sure to brush up on your Mileena for when you run into jerks like us who just want to play Jax all day.

Pic is nice too. Can a game get much better than the old Mortal Kombat games? I think not.

I understand that "Top" means top tier, and "Yes" means middle tier, and "No" means bottom tier...
But where do "LOL" and "NOOB" fit into it?
Reply
I know I'm part of a vocal minority, but if you don't believe me come back to me in a month - By then the nostalgia will wear off.
@5 - If you really think SubZero can beat Jax, you have no idea how to play this game.

Scorpion and Baraka were the shizzle tho, most people couldn't believe they lost so fast.
Good times.

Even Lui Kang could beat him!
*he acts all big and bad behind the safety of his screen*

LOL for Johnny Cage is because he's a fucking joke, and NOOB for Kitana because everyone does the same tired fan lift > Jump punch XX Air Fans > Square Punch juggle. If you were in a more packed arcade in late 1993 you saw this at least 20 times an hour.

and whoever said johnny cage was a joke... if you knew how to use him, he was sick. no one ever got close to me when i was playing as him. just throwing green flames and if they got close, shadow kick/uppercut until they backed off... repeat.

That sounds great - in Theory Fighter land. Cage has too many delays in his special moves to be effective. He does have one of the better uppercuts in the game, but that's only good if you are playing against a total tool that *has* to land a jumpkick on you.

Haha, I have no idea how to play the game? Just because I like one character over anyother? You think the game is so unbalanced that Jax is the only way to win? haha, thats classic.
Hit me up on PS3 Mortal Kombat when I download it. my name will be MTFPD112

Liking a character and a winning character are two different things totally. For example, I like using Dhalsim in Hyper Fighting, but I fall back on Chun Li or Ryu for matches I want to win. Sim has many matches that are next to impossible to win in a high end competitive environment.
Jax is not the only way to win. Mileena, on the other hand, is.
Yeah, I'm classic.
I'm also a poor bastage too, no PS3 for me until I land a new job and new digs. I need something I can turn my money around on, and PS3s aren't cutting it. You can't sell one for two grand like you could days 1 to 1.5 of system launch. :)

Question is, why is it that the only PS3 games I want so far are the PSN downloadables?
Sony, I'm begging you...give me a decent reason to drop $600+ on this machine, PLEASE!

It is a sexy piece of technology. Once you open that PS3 box and see the beautiful glossy black paint you will fall in love.
Yes, it doen't have that many games but it will in the future. Im in love with my PS3 on a technological standpoint.

Shows why i lost so much...

Cheap shots aside, this is a definite buy for me.
Also, @22 - I'm not sure if you've checked but there are some good games out for the PS3 now. My hands down favourite (and everyone who sees and plays it) is still MotorStorm.

There's a difference between playing at the local 7-11 in your isolated hick town, and playing against the best in the nation.
And for those of you who might laugh at people who take games seriously enough to play tournaments, remember what kind of site you are at.

Trut me. Once you open that brand new box and see the beauty you will change your mind. The system looks alot better when its standing up. Pop in some Resistance, sit back have a beer and relax. Nothing better.

If this were Wii, you would get the gimped snes version for 10 bucks.. and nintenbots would somehow rationalise that its a better deal.

one of my buddies has a PS3 and I've played both Resistance and Motorstorm. Yeah, they're okay (I really do like the tank segments on RFOM,) but they just currently can't beat the lineup on the Xbox. Don't you own a 360, anyway? If you do, you can surely understand the bind I'm in...
Reply
Yea I know how you feel. Its a hard choice. I jumped the gun to get a PS3 since I already had the 360. If I was you would wait another 8 months or so to see if they package in the new rumble controllers and price drop. Also your right, the 360 is the way to go as this point in time.

Time to spend a great kick ass time with an old friend, MORTAL KOMBAT II.

ive always wanted to know how do people get so good at games. I always try to be really good at a game so that i can truly compete against someone and almost always beat their ass and be competitive in online gaming. It just doesnt work for me. I mean you could play arcades alot (in the past) but there are so many things that a person does in their daily life. I, being 15 turning 16, go to school, work, do hw (important ones) and all the regular things in life (like taking a shower, eating, sleeping) yet i only get to enjoy games... not that much. But i really love games. what should i do, focus on one game?
end rant

The short answer?
No. No he is not.
Play someone who is actually GOOD at the game, and then I'm sure you'll start to see just how wrong you are in your opinions of the best characters. I'd love to see it, actually.

You should not spread yourself too thin, so focusing on a few games is the right track to be on. Only a few players can keep themselves competitive over a multitude of games, and you will not be there right away.
some will tell you to learn complex combos, but that's not the case. *effective* combos are more likely to help you than knowing how to pull off an infinite.
Lastly, for more advice I'd recommend checking out the Book "Playing to Win" by David Sirlin. David is an accomplished Street Fighter player who now works in the gaming industry. He made the video tutorials that are on Capcom Classics Collection 2 for Super SF2 Turbo. While the book does focus on Street Fighter to a degree, there are alot of lessons that can transcend to many other gaming genres.

If you enjoy fighting games, you should go to Evolution, the premiere fighting game tournament in the United States. Not to win mind you, but to learn and see how the pros do it. There is alot of gaming to be had and I can assure you that it is an extremely fun learning experience. www.evo2k.com
Good luck.
