GTAIV drops Staten Island; Wu-Tang response unknown
Manhattan's become Algonquin; Brooklyn's become Broker; Queens has become Dukes; The Bronx have become Bohan; and even New Jersey is making an appearance as Alderney. So how must it feel to be a Staten Islander and see the other four boroughs of New York City recreated in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV while the forgotten borough is, well, forgotten? While MTV News struggles to come to terms with the news, the Staten Island Advance reports that not everyone from Staten Island is upset. "That's something I appreciate being left out of," said Linda Baran, president of the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce. She of course was referring to the sure-to-be controversial GTAIV and not the neighborhood parties nobody bothers inviting her to ("she's such a stick in the mud!"). Still, everyone is left wondering what Staten Island's own Wu-Tang Clan think about the absence of the Island of Shaolin. Rockstar, you do know that Wu-Tang clan ain't nothing to @!#?@! with, right?

Woohoo! Some NJ action in GTA! That's awesome. But what's so special in NJ? LOL, Newark?
Jinn @ Apr 12th 2007 12:01PM
That's because everyone from the city knows Staten Island isn't a real borough
3cubedminus3squared @ Apr 12th 2007 12:06PM
Remember the DLC they were talking about...

Is Brooklyn in the house!?
ahh, good times.
DaiMac79 @ Apr 12th 2007 12:08PM
I choose to believe that Rockstar plans to add the island of Wu as downloadable content, and have left the decision of which platform is worthy up to the RZA. The next big GTA announcement is that the RZA has decided that only a rap battle between Steve Ballmer and Phil Harrison could possibly tell which company deserves that content more.
That's what I choose to believe, anyway ;)
C. Grant @ Apr 12th 2007 12:08PM
Watch it Al2x! Some Joystiqers hold the Jerz real close to their hearts.

GTA IV MULTIPLAYER
The multiplayer will be a mode where 4-6 players steal one of your hookers and you and 4-6 people have to get ur hooker back
or
6-8 people are taking over ur territory and 6-8 players need to control it
Hikiki @ Apr 12th 2007 12:12PM
Staten Island will be to GTAIV what Horse Armour is to Oblivion.
heretrix @ Apr 12th 2007 12:24PM
As a Staten Island resident, I completely understand.
hvnlysoldr @ Apr 12th 2007 12:27PM
But will it have the New Yorker Hotel? I wonder if any game has.
Saneless @ Apr 12th 2007 12:28PM
My guess is that people would accuse them of sloppy coding when everyone looked like a greasy wop, spoke the same, and were just overly annoying. And my guess is the AI coders had trouble with the bad teenager driver in daddy's SUV code.
Zell @ Apr 12th 2007 12:34PM
Hahahaha... Jinn pretty much nailed it.
Jonah Falcon @ Apr 12th 2007 12:43PM
Um, ever heard of the Verazzano-Narrows Bridge? It's a huge part of NYC. (rolling eyes)
Just have a DLC in which you visit the Shaolin to face off against the Wang-Tu Clan rap gang.
RDX @ Apr 12th 2007 12:58PM
Funniest headline in Joystiq history.
Jeff @ Apr 12th 2007 1:02PM
Jonah - you really think all the major NYC bridges are going to be in this game? You'll get a bridge that looks like the Brooklyn bridge, you'll get one that looks like the GW bridge, and that's probably about it. I mean let's face it, the game world is going to be so compressed vs. the real city that you're probably going to be able to *jump* from one island to the other depending on where you are.
For anyone that's forgotten, here's the GTA3 map: http://faqsmedia.ign.com/faqs/image/mdean76_gta3map_20060102.jpg
Given that this is R*'s first entry on a new platform, and they're doing two versions of the game at once, I doubt GTA4 is going to be much bigger than that.
If you want a real blast from the past, here's Liberty City from the original GTA: http://pnmedia.gamespy.com/planetgrandtheftauto.gamespy.com/images/oldsite/lcblip.jpg
Notice no Staten Island there either. So nothing new. Liberty City has never had an equivalent to Staten Island.
MSaccarello @ Apr 12th 2007 1:04PM
@5 Al2x,
Actually... Camden, NJ would fit right into GTA4, seeing as how it was the 4th most dangerous city in the United States last year.
PhrawzT @ Apr 12th 2007 1:10PM
Wu-Tang!
Ecksem Diem @ Apr 12th 2007 1:14PM
Well, Staten Island does keep trying to secede from the city, after all.
Besides, the only thing people use the Verrazano for is as part of a number of roundabout shortcuts. =P

"15. My guess is that people would accuse them of sloppy coding when everyone looked like a greasy wop, spoke the same, and were just overly annoying. And my guess is the AI coders had trouble with the bad teenager driver in daddy's SUV code."
As an Italian, I must say that in no way does this post offend me. Actually, I though it was funny and laughed at it. With that being said, somebody remind what the big deal with Imus was.
Uchendu Nwachukwu @ Apr 12th 2007 1:41PM
As an SI resident, let's just say I'm not complaining TOO much.

Jason @ Apr 12th 2007 1:51PM
The Wu-Tang Clan is the only cool thing that's ever happened in Staten Island.
Ghost of ODB @ Apr 12th 2007 1:54PM
I don't know how you all see it, but when it comes to the children, Wu-Tang is for the children. We teach the children. Rockstar is good, but Wu-Tang is the best. I want you all to know that this is ODB, and I love you all. Peace!
Dracula Jones @ Apr 12th 2007 2:01PM
Al2x, I'm getting that mob guy with the 10 foot bushes in front of his house on Belleville Ave to kill you for LOLing at NJ.

"As an Italian, I must say that in no way does this post offend me"
Well, I'm Italian, so it had to be said. I really don't think people truly know how bad Italians are until you have to deal with the ones in your own family.
As for Imus, he barely said anything compared to the stink they're making. But when Revvy Al wants to get on TV, RevAllll's going to get his attention. And people who probably said "He said what? F him.. whatever" suddenly are "Scarred for life" and go on TV, crying. My balls they're upset.
Shibathedog @ Apr 12th 2007 3:18PM
HAHA WU-TANG!!!! this is the best post ive ever read on joystiq.

It's probably going to be downloadable content in the future.
Mayor Bloomberg @ Apr 12th 2007 3:34PM
You know, Christopher Gant, that New Jersey isn't actually a borough of NYC, right?
Stuck on the Turnpike @ Apr 12th 2007 3:36PM
Just toss an island betwen two actual zones; place a big mall and smother the rest of the island under a slow, standstill freeway.
Voila! Staten Island.
Arno @ Apr 12th 2007 3:36PM
Staten Island sucks anyway. I mean it looks just like New Jersey.
DrF @ Apr 12th 2007 3:57PM
Anyone else here reckon that ODB sounded like Bill Cosby on crack?
In other news: meh.

Yeah, Mayor Bloomberg. I figured that out all by myself! Note, I wrote, "the other four boroughs of New York City" while the mention of "even New Jersey" was a notable fifth inclusion!
Jonah Falcon @ Apr 12th 2007 7:47PM
"The Wu-Tang Clan is the only cool thing that's ever happened in Staten Island."
What about the SI Yanks?
"You know, Christopher Gant, that New Jersey isn't actually a borough of NYC, right?"
NJ likes to think that, but honestly - it is. What New Yorker doesn't shop at the Mall via the PATH?
