Red vs. Blue comes to Xbox Live: first five episodes for $1 each
Popular Halo machinima series Red vs. Blue is coming to Xbox Live. The first five episodes of the concluding series are already online and selling at 80 MS points (US $1.00) each. The videos range from 77 to 138 MB in size.As 1UP points out, it's not hard to find much of the series online for free viewing (including the official RvB website, which features some episodes on a rotating basis). You can also purchase a nineteen-episode DVD for each season, with bonus features, from the Rooster Teeth store for $20.
Still, one dollar might be that golden price point where, like Apple found with iTunes store, consumers don't mind paying for the convenience of downloading content. We'll probably have an indication of how well the price is working with what we presume is the inevitable release of episodes six to 10.
[Update: math error with DVD.]

anyone who buys this is a lazy sucker with more money than sense.

"You can also purchase a nineteen-episode DVD for each season, with bonus features, from the Rooster Teeth store for $20 -- that's about 50 cents an episode if you consider extra content worthless"
how does a 19 episode per disc at a cost of $20 equate to roughly 50 cents per episode. 50 cents per episode would be 19 x 0.5 = $9.50
anyway, i would download these as an impulse purchase and for the convenience of not having to trawl through the rvb site

It is not hard to find all the episodes on the internet. However, if you prefer to support RT, buy from them, not Microsoft (that way the money goes right to RT and you can watch the episodes on things other than just your Xbox).

So, the DVD has the same price point as MarketPlace (minus a few pennies)? Then what's the problem?
NeverSage @ Apr 13th 2007 8:32PM
You have to pick your battles with marketplace pricing. $1 per episode is not an outrageous price. Save your complaining for the GHII tracks.

Can't you watch this for... free?
Tetranitrocubane @ Apr 13th 2007 9:21PM
Yes. But only if you're really patient and wait for the roving archive. Even then it's low quality instead of high quality.
Youtube works, but the quality is even lower. Still, it is all free if you want it. So it just depends on how much of a snob you are for picture quality.

Here's a tip: since the 360 can play vids from an external hd or stream from WMP off a pc, just go support Rooster Teeth Productions as a sponsor and get access to all the episodes.
Sponsorship is only $10 per 6 months and offers WMV-formatted videos for download.
Great series overall, but some episodes are not as good as others. Yet those episodes have story elements you can't miss.

The first 5 episodes together aren't worth $1
things pick up after church dies, but before that its all setup
