Forum members at Facepunch Studios have ripped almost 50 3D models from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, cleaned them up, and released them for the world to play with. It didn't take long before images of Link and Ila "sittin' in a tree" appeared. Surprisingly, the images so far have been SFW. If you have your own 2D and 3D manipulation software (3D Studio Max, for example), you can grab the meshes yourself and make your own magic. Fortunately the Epona model has yet to be ripped. We can't wait to see the, uh, "creative" scenes that will bring.

Actually, it was easier than hell to rip models from TLP as they used the same old model format Nintendo has been using since Mario Sunshine. Why it's taken so long for these to be fine tuned and released I'll never know... Though, I suppose you could have ripped them yourself anyway so...

ssuk,
got any links on how to rip models from Gamecube games, then? I was curious about this since it would be fun to do an over the top style battle between Talim and Nightmare.

AFAIK, ripping the models is not a processor (at its current state) of extracting them from the game files. Rather, they capture the scene as DirectX (IIRC) is rendering it with a magical program that spits out a model. Pretty nifty if you ask me.

Wow, can you imagine if Nintendo would have made the Wii's graphics more like the 360s? I still love Nintendo games, but this eye candy would be nice to have with them one of these days.

Would make sense. It seeks the data being references and spits it out. Nice. Linkage? My computer is down right now but I can imagine having some fun with this.

Wouldn't be that hard to make a super high poly Link from this source material. Selectively add edge loops, motify the texture, add in more advanced geometry, take it into Zbrush to add some normal mapping to the clothe and hair, easy peazy.

@23: Probably, if someone can convert the models, ragdoll them, and stuff like that.
@24: I looked around and found some .3ds models for download and editing, it has almost every character ;)

Isn't this illegal? I think it violates copyright law to reverse engineer a piece of software and release those copyrighted material on the Internet.

BTW, in case anyone doesn't have 3ds max (it costs money!), you can import the models into Blender (its free!). Remember to turn textures on, to see them in glorious technicolour.
