As a gamer girl, I am so tired of the “girls don’t like video games” mentality that the mainstream media continues to portray. I, like many other of those who’ve left comments, have only managed to get my significant other to play rhythm/music games like GH, DDR, and Karaoke Revolution. He also loves Wii Sports. I can’t get my boyfriend to play Gears of War or WoW, but I’m glad that we found some games to play when we’re together. However, the guitar controllers and DDR pads in my living room may have been the reason another friend exclaimed the first time he visited, “It’s like a bachelor pad!”

Wow, you really are pathetic. If you truly believe that you can't "score" because you play Guitar Hero or DDR you're clueless as to the real world that we live in. It's the year 2007, being Gay isn't something to hide, being multi-ethnic is becoming the norm, and games are part of Americas mainstream culture.

The other night I went out downtown in Austin to have some drinks with some friends, and there were two really hot girls discussing leveling up in World of Warcraft and how they thought it was fun to play the game together. Man I'd hate to have to go talk to two really hot girls discussing WoW and have something in common with them. I've met more people that scoff at World of Warcraft than Guitar Hero. With 7 million subscriptions and growing I don't think it's like we're discussing some small niche game. Last time I checked Guitar Hero 2 was the top selling PS2 game this holiday. The sales numbers are staggering for a game with a peripheral like that. So I think you need to re-evaluate your statements because it sounds like one of two things...

1) You found the game to be too difficult for you, and just got fed up because you couldn't play as well as the 12 year old kid in Best Buy. No offense, he can play better than I can most likely as well. It's life. There's always someone better.

2) You're into Hip Hop/Rap/RnB and the idea of a "rock" game upsets you and your friends. That's cool that you're into that. We're not gonna go around telling you that listening to your music makes you a tool, and you'll never score with chicks listening to that crap because it's just dumb to say that.

There are MILLIONS of people in this world, and there are always people that find like hobbies and begin relationships out of enjoyment of them. I know one person who's actually now pregnant because she "scored" with someone at a guitar hero party. (she's an idiot for not using a condom) So please learn to appreciate things outside of your own tastes for what they are. Realize that others will like them, and no amount of talking about how people won't "score" just makes those of us that know otherwise shake our heads in disbelief at such an absurd post.

PS. Please understand that just because someone writes and article and Reuters publishes it doesn't make it "respected." This piece sounds more typical of an author trying to strike a chord with an "edge" piece than anything else. The research was obviously very slim. My guess is that the author did this all last minute. Not very respectable or fair to the opposite view point.

Respectable journalists take the time to understand all sides of an argument before just writing blindly.

@ my own post

I still can't find fact in reason number 2, but it's a long shot at trying to understand why Benjamin doesn't like Guitar Hero. I have friends that only listen to Techno/Hip-hop/rap/RnB etc and dislike it because of the fact that it's a rock game... So I'm not trying to offend anyone. Sorry if I do, but welcome to life. Not everyone has the same opinions/beliefs/ideals.
