Carcassonne making roads to Xbox Live Arcade on June 7th
Although it's taken almost a year to arrive, Xbox Live Arcade players and board game lovers can rejoice: Carcassonne will finally be coming to XBLA in June.
It's no secret that we're fans of the original board game, so the announcement of a date comes as a welcome relief, and a cruel form of torture knowing we'll have to wait more than a month to get it. To whet your appetite even more, check out a slew of Carcassonne screenshots here.
Power to the Meeple.

OK, so where the heck is Settlers of Catan at?!??!
I remember an article not too far back that said that it would be out by the end of March...Keeping my fingers crossed for this week.

*** Just noticed that GameStooge said the exact same thing in their article.

Don't hold your breath. Catan's website says it's expecting to drop in May.
Blue_Falcon @ Apr 16th 2007 11:35AM
I wonder if they mean the 6th, since the 7th is on a Thursday.

Is it me - or do board games on a video game console totally defeat the purpose?
I'll pass. On this, and Settlers of Catan.

@5
It's just you. How does a board game as a console defeat the purpose?
Jonah Falcon @ Apr 16th 2007 12:14PM
Catan is due in May, 2007.
Jonah Falcon @ Apr 16th 2007 12:15PM
GameStooge said June '07, as in June, 2007. Not June 7th.

Ooops. I mean Xbox Users Group.

Diskoboy:
Board games on a console do not defeat the purpose.
While board games are their own brand of fun (interaction with friends, no lag, no long wait times without being able to reach out and smack player 2, actual dice, etc.) board games on a console offer a bunch of unique aspects:
Never have to clean up the pieces/board.
Never have to worry about missing pieces, or the dog eating your dice.
No arguments over the rules...either the game allows it, or it doesn't.
Hopefully, being able to test your skills against people outside of your group of 4 or 5.
I'm far more excited about this than I am Settlers of Catan, this is just a better game.

I really hope this is as awesome as it should be, but that would require a metric ton of awesome and well, that's a lot of awesome.

Well, with XBLA you have plenty of verbal communication. And you can threaten a negative review for people with analysis paralysis.
skullivan @ Apr 16th 2007 1:14PM
You're also missing the most important thing about board games online: Having people to play with at any time and being able to play with people you physically can't. (i.e. my brothers in Florida 1500 miles away.)
Sure I'd much rather hang out with them, drink some beer and play the game for real, but an XBLA version is the next best thing.

Oh, trust me - people are drinking beer all the time while playing on XBLA. >:)

This makes me mad. I really like these games but I don't have anyone to play it with. And then they release it for the 360. :-(

I'd like to see more classic games come to XBLA. Like "52 Card Pick-up."
