Film site IESB reports that Disney is hoping Michael Bay, after finishing up Transformers, will helm the film adaptation of Prince of Persia. With frequent Bay producer Jerry Bruckheimer already signed on for the project, we expect the Armageddon director will take the job.
The Bruckheimer-Bay duo has brought us some entertaining (Bad Boys, The Rock) and not-so entertaining (Pearl Harbor) films, but there are some prevalent themes in all of their collaborations. Prince of Persia, heavy on explosion and light on character development and plot, is expected for a Summer 2009 release and, if successful, to become a franchise.

Such terrible news for one of my favorites... this is worse than when I found out the second game was gonna have metal playing in the background instead of the appropriate stuff from the first

I don't understand this negativity. Isn't it good news that the prince of persia movie will be a movie with a established director and a big budget to make it look good?
Those complaining that the story is going to suck now are kidding themselves. It isn't like The Sands of Time already had a deep storyline with interesting characters. Not to say it was a bad storyline, but it certainly wasn't anything that can be fucked up. Sands of Time was mostly a great action game and that's probably what the movie is going to be, an nice action flick.

I really like Sands of Time. I think it is one of the most atmospheric and fun games I have ever played, but Shakespeare it aint. I for one am not entirely heartbroken to see Bay making the film version. If it is an empty shell of a movie I will just disregard it and move on. If if it reasonably entertaining then I will be satisfied.

is it just me or has anyone else realized that people weren't really bothered by michael bay until team america came out. Yeah his movies have always been stereotypical summer action "blow shit up" movies but ever since team america came out people now loathe him and all of his work before team america even came out

Established does not equal talented. Michael Bay sucks. He is famous for selling tickets, not making great movies. All he does is stick to the same tired formulas. The story will be good, since it's all plotted out, but Bay tends to ruin a good story by burying it under overzealous action scenes. That, and the fact his movies have the worst music in the industry. What I fear most about this movie is the original soundtrack being axed. Silent Hill was a decent movie, but it did manage to only use official music from the games, which made a big difference.

I am sick of people trashing Michael Bay by name. Honestly, I am. Most of this criticism didn't even happen until after Team America and him signing on to Transformers, and those people would have though Transformers would suck no matter who directed it.
Pearl Harbor wasn't good, I'll admit that. I loved The Rock (his best work ever), Armageddon, and The Island(his most recent/complex work). He makes big-ass summer blockbusters, and they are very entertaining to a large portion of moviegoers.
All of his movies have plots. Mind you, they weren't very complex plots, but they were solid. Giant Robots coming from space to search for resources (or in this movies case, a resource), is not a complex plot. An acrobatic prince who can rewind time trying to save the world/city/castle/himself/princess, isn't very complex either. But they are solid enough to keep a movie going.
Bottom line is Prince of Persia will be an action movie that needs someone who can deliver action, and good luck finding someone else who can deliver the same kind of action.
The creator of the game is handling the scriptwriting. Let him deal with the story. Michael will deal with everything in between.

I think that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has a really good chance at being a solid videogame movie. Hopefully Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer will do a good job for Disney and the great Ubisoft series.

Sands of Time had an excellent plot.. but it was also cool for the setting, atmosphere and characterisation.
The Rock was great. He hasn't done a single other good movie though. (i guess maybe bad boys was a guilty pleasure).
(the island STOLE it's plot.. and still managed to suck)
If he is signed for this then its gonna be a dumb, popcorn flic and we will all hate it.
PS/ Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!! /vader

When is Hollywood going to learn that Michael Bay really sucks at telling stories, and is renowned for taking a perfectly good script and fucking it up?
I would much rather have Bruckheimer at the wheel for some explosive fun.
