I think you meant 'first person shooters. First 'person shooters' sounds like Jack Thompson could call them.

Quite right, Matt. Those bullet pointed parts are taken directly from the research and, though I checked for grammar and punctuation, I overlooked that part. I am going to leave it as such and put a [sic] to let readers know that's how the BBFC believe it is used.

"However, games are better at developing action than building character and as such gamers tend to care less about the storyline than making progress in the game."

What? Making progress = advancing story.

Wow, Matt, you made me realize the difference of a 'first person' shooter and the first 'person shooter.' Definitely different meanings there :D.

Okay, you do realize that when surveys say that gamers care more about one thing than another, they are talking on the average, right? They're not actually saying that every single gamer values progress over story. So saying that *some* gamers care *as much* about the story doesn't really discount the findings. Plus, just because progress is tied into the plot doesn't mean that the player *cares* about the plot. I've made lots of progress in games that with stories that I couldn't care less about.

As for first 'person shooters', that is really funny. And people say games aren't politically correct. We don't make 'man shooters' or 'women shooters'. We're very open-minded about who we shoot. :)

For that matter I wonder what the FIRST 'person shooter' actually was. In Defender you could shoot people. Are space invaders people too...?

Lethal Enforcers was a person shooter game right? Leave it to the press to misuse a term and the internet will go and turn it into slang.
(Person shooter will be the new slang this year, I bet)

You guys have to realise that the BBFC is the main body in the UK for FILM CLASSIFICATION, they recieve games from the rebound off-of PEGI and as such rate games as they would films.
I don't see why you guys are getting so worked up about "first 'person shooters'", it's a small, stupid error on their side, but given the article is mainly benifitial compared to other 'reports' of the gaming industry I would have to say they're not in it to say "lol videogames are bad!!1", hell they pointed out their own useless-ness in the video game market by saying parents ignore ratings and give kids whatever game they like because it's 'just a game'. You can't get much more brutally honest.

"Younger games players are influenced to play particular games by peer pressure and word of mouth"

In other words, adolescent gamers play M-rated games just to be cool, and are too embarrassed to play kiddie games.
