The game kinda sucks. I only played to level 8, but man, i was already bored. I hope they fix most of the animations and sounds. Stabbing something with a sword has never been more unsatisfying.

Wow, the whole thing seems kinda pointless....does anyone really want to stand outside waiting for this game????

Then again, I didn't like the movies, so I am a little biased.

@ Jboy001

Thanks dude. Not much of a graphics card on my laptop as i don't think my employer deems it neccessary. 2 GB of RAM though and a hefty proccessor so i'm hoping that will carry me through!!
Damn me for having lived off consoles all these years!!

@8 Ever heard of the books? The game is based on the books and not the movies. I have pre-ordered this game. It has great graphics, quest lines and a more mature community so far, at least on Brandywine. If they were doing a midnight release in my city i would go.

To answer system spec question.

My PC:
AMD 64 bit 3600
2 GIGS of RAM
ATI 256MB x800 GTO Pro

I have graphics set on High and I get about 45 FPS. My wife's system is not as good as mine and she gets about 30 FPS. It seems to scale pretty well from high end to low end.

Sounds like LOTRO is paying EB to stay open until midnight to create the "buzz" that people just can't wait....el oh el

Good to see another PC title get some buzz and I would venture it will sell pretty well in the next coming months. Myself? I'm still waiting for Warhammer Online. Although I must say, I checked out the LOTR beta and I'm impressed.

the game is so lame. the interface looks worse than diablo II. I played for 1 hour then had to uninstall to stop the vomiting.

My friend tried out the beta and said that the game sucked. He went back to WOW after one day.

Playing the beta brought back memories of how underwhelmed I was when I gave WOW a shot. And this game feels exactly the same. They wanted to cut into the WOW base so badly that they did everything they could to make the two games alike. Very linear, lots of grinding, no surprises, NPCs have one snippet of audio. Have fun fighting boars, I'm going to wait for a decent MMORPG.

it seems like the posts here can be broken into 3 groups:

group #1: WoW fanboys that think every MMORPG in existance, most of which they have never even played, sucks becuase it's not WoW. they also commonly suffer from the delusion that elves/orcs/dragons/night elves/dwarves/wraiths were originally WoW inventions never before seen anywhere.

group #2: LOTR fanboys that think everything with a LOTR label slaped on it automatically makes it the most epicly awesome fanboy circle-jerk ever. also commonly suffer from the delusion that the movies came first or that LOTR are the only three books written about middle earth.

group #3: normal people that realize the two games are actually the same game (slots) with a slightly more complicated GUI and set of inputs i.e. cherries that spin when you pull a lever are replaced with animated red bars that gradually get smaller when you press a button. keep in mind that in real slots you occasionally get a payout of real money so the house is only taking a cut whereas in an MMORPG the house keeps everything and pays out with random drops that have no value and only one use, making it easier to pull the lever at the next best slots... i mean dungeon.

I enjoy seeing "lol nerds this game sucks bla bla." What that is doing is keeping the teenie boppers out of the game. 3 Cheers to all you kids afraid to play it, your helping to improve the lotro community.

As to the game itself, Im not a major lotr fan however I am a fan of this game. Wonderful graphics it makes wow look like a joke. More quests than you can ever finish and this is only at lvl 15 and under. Deeds, Monster pvp, a decent crafting system, no one knows what the raids will be like but im sure can't be worst then wow. I mean who the fuck designs an encounter that you need to install a mod to beat? (C'Thun)

"in real slots you occasionally get a payout of real money so the house is only taking a cut "

You haven't gambled lately, have you.

Nevada doesn't have sales tax for a reason :P

Um, and also

"normal people that realize the two games are actually the same game (slots) with a slightly more complicated GUI and set of inputs "

I could argue that all games fall into this category. Push button x for effect, and perhaps x,y,y for effect. This completes a task, which opens the door for harder, more complex tasks. If i press x,y,x i die (lose money), so i don't do that. This is every single video game, not just mmo's, dumbass.

I've tried the open beta with several classes. The game is looking very solid at this stage. The graphics are brilliant compared to the popular MMORPG's out at the moment. That said, the game-play is the same tried and true mechanics from EQ/WoW etc. If you love the mechanics but want new quest text to read and prettier pictures, then this is the game for you.

Where I think the game falls down is competitive play. While EQ/WoW have slowly been adding in PvP with great success, LOTRO seems to have ignored the trend. The PvP aspect is called "monster play" and seems very much like an afterthought. It's just not an alternative to well done world-PvP/RvR or competitive ladders.

If you are ready for a new game that looks great, and you don't really care about PvP/RvR then I would definitely consider LOTRO. If you want PvP/RvR and some more interesting character classes/customization maybe wait for Age of Conan or Warhammer like I am.

As I said in the past, I love this game. It's beautiful, fun, has SO much attention to detail, and the quality is superb.

The last two games I tried were WOW (worst launch ever, after a month of not being able to play for more than 5 minutes I quit for good), and Vanguard... where you pay to beta test their fun but horribly coded game.

LOTRO isn't revolutionary, it doesn't reinvent the genre or anything. But what it does, it does extremely well.

Its is the same mechanic as usaly but seems like a fun ride through the first time but idk if itll have that great of replay value but hey they added a shiny fun story line to follow and its only a small part of tolkens world with more too come so it should be pretty fun also if you preorder its only 10 bucks a month or 199 for life time :)

P.S the sky grafic is the best thing ive ever seen in a mmorpg supposedly its the same sky tolken wrote the books under

ok... listen... i watched about 1/2 of LOTR 1 (I fell asleep) and never read the books so i dont know much but i play WoW so i know about MMORPG's to a degree. I can say this play WoW, EQ ,LOTRO it doesn't matter they are all nerdy games (don't deny it) but that doesn't make players nerds. What makes players nerds is dressing up like frodo and talking old English and camping outside a store for a week to get to a midnight opening for a game that will still be out the next day, its not going anywhere. Then you feel proud of yourself because a store owner dressed like an elf said that you look cool. This is what makes a nerd.
