Vince Young tapped for Madden '08 cover?
The Nashville City Paper is citing an unnamed "source with knowledge of the situation" as confirming that Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young will be the cover star of Madden '08. Young is expected to officially announce the placement during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight.Young is also one of three players tapped to star in a series of commercials for the game, along with New Orleans running back Reggie Bush and Chicago's perfectly fast Devin Hester. The ads will premiere during the NFL draft.
Young would be a somewhat unorthodox choice for the cover -- a recent ESPN listing put him as the sixth most likely candidate. Apparently winning the Super Bowl is not as impressive as being a rookie QB "with a flair for the dramatic," as ESPN put it.

Young's agent confirmed it in the Tennessean:

I bet the Texans are happy they didnt pick him up now
Jake @ Apr 17th 2007 12:06PM
Well, his career is pretty much over.
hvnlysoldr @ Apr 17th 2007 12:09PM
How long before his fans try to buck it on someone else? And in the end, will the curse strike both of them?
haywood jablomey @ Apr 17th 2007 12:10PM
Hopefully not. Vince is awesome. At least he doesn't have mugshots like pacman jones.
aC @ Apr 17th 2007 12:21PM
He's so screwed... Shame too, he was fun to watch when he played well/didn't blow out a knee.
Looks like that won't be the case anymore.
Jack of No Trades @ Apr 17th 2007 12:30PM
Put Drew Breeze on the cover. Why Vince? Well I guess its better than Romo.
robert @ Apr 17th 2007 12:37PM
"The last player to not be injured was former Titan Eddie George, who appeared on the cover of Madden '01. In fact, that season (2000-01) was George's best as a pro."
maybe the titans are immune to the "madden curse" and vince will have a great year.
David @ Apr 17th 2007 12:49PM
Vince Young is immune from "cover curses".
He has been on the cover of Sports Illustrated ~6 times the past 2 years and that didn't stop him from winning a National Championship, winning NFL Rookie of the Year, and being the first rookie QB to ever play in the Pro Bowl.
EA knows that Vince is the future of the NFL and they couldn't have picked anyone better.
jcmschwa @ Apr 17th 2007 12:55PM
definitely agree with #9 David...i've always been an ncaa football fan myself, but i'd pick up madden if VY was on there. gotta rep the burnt orange.
bgdc @ Apr 17th 2007 1:07PM
I hope it's vince...and that the curse maintains.
Neal @ Apr 17th 2007 1:08PM
They should have more defensive players on the covers. Urlacher has deserved it for a while now.
Im tired of QBs, WRs, and RBs.

VY is GOD. The Madden Curse is nothing compared to Vince Young. I can't wait to see him prove all of you wrong. I can't wait to see him win a super bowl in the next few years and piss all of you off just like when he won the Rose Bowl.
420sniper @ Apr 17th 2007 1:39PM
@David
stick to playing video games dude. Vince Young wasn't the first rookie quarterback to play in the pro bowl. a rookie by the name of Dan Marino played in the both the superbowl and pro bowl.
Jake @ Apr 17th 2007 1:49PM
It is kind of funny hearing people here that don't think he'll blow out a knee or something. It's the Madden curse. You can't argue it. My guess is a compound MCL/PCL/ACL complete tear, likely requiring amputation. I'm a big VY fan and it pains me to see EA hates him so bad. Oh well, he had a heck of a run.
B1gC72 @ Apr 17th 2007 1:53PM
well the QB's, WR's, and RB's are the ones that score points, so most casual fans are going to be drawn to them unfortunately. i think Urlacher would be a great choice for the cover. very consistent.
feel kinda bad for vince though. guess that sophmore slump is inevitable now. nobody escapes the curse. if they dont get hurt then they see a significant drop in their numbers.
but neway, HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS?!
David @ Apr 17th 2007 1:54PM
@14 420sniper:
Lay off the weed man.
Dan Marino was selected to the Pro Bowl but never played in it due to post-season surgery.

Well, there goes his career. Madden curse strikes again?
sweetsourpork @ Apr 17th 2007 2:29PM
vy will put the curse in his butt
vy is god

Cowboys eh? I picked up Romo for my fantasy team last year after McNabb got hurt, and he did pretty well for me. Too bad I also had Ownes and he blew ass.
vidGuy @ Apr 17th 2007 3:02PM
Well Ray Lewis was on the cover in 05, so that kinda defeats the theory that only offensive players grace the cover. http://www.xboxgamers.com/images/boxshots/madden2005.jpg
I think the injuries are definitely a Madden curse, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madden_curse for a listing, but bad stats aren't anything special or curse-worthy. You get on the cover after an exceptional year, it's only natural that few live up to the hype the following year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regression_towards_the_mean
micheal82 @ Apr 17th 2007 3:41PM
Everybody knows that the cover person will be the lovable loser Rex Grossman. He fits this years cover the silloitted quaterback getting ready to throw another pick. EA plaese put Grossman on the cover so The Madden curse can strike him and the Bears can prepare for Super Bowl Glory.
T Mill @ Apr 17th 2007 5:46PM
Jeez anybody that actually believes in video game cover curses need to pull their head out of their ass and step out into the real world and get a life. Vince Young will play the best out of any of the cover athletes, cause he is the best.
miles foreman @ Apr 17th 2007 7:36PM
Why did Reggie Bush win the Heisman again? He's a great player and all, but no Vince Young.
jason @ Apr 18th 2007 7:53AM
SHUT UP 22
Rex Grossman wasplayer of the month in his first 4 games of last season and i bet u loved him then and he led the CHICAGO BEARS to the SuperBowl in his first complete season and he already has suffered enough in his first two seasons. Also shut up with putting BEARS players on the cover of Madden cuz i don't want URLACHER,SEXY REXY, OR DEVIN FOR SEVEN hurt. GO BULLS BEAR AND CUBBIES
Rich @ Apr 18th 2007 12:42PM
Here's a crazy idea, how 'bout putting Madden back on the cover?
Or have multiple cover athletes, depending on region. What are the odds they'll ALL get hurt?
Lee010 @ Apr 18th 2007 10:39PM
fuck the curse
look at Ray Lewis and Michael Vick
nothing really bad has happened to those 2 yet
Michael Vick ran for 1000 yards and Ray Lewis is still as good as ever
n they were both on the cover
Vince Young is gonna go all games without any injuries.
Brooks Carmean @ Apr 21st 2007 11:38AM
Nothing bad happened to Vick??? Actually the year he was on the cover he was injured in preseason and only able to play in the last five games of the season. Ray Lewis didn't get injured till his last game of the year but he did get injured none the less and had 0 interceptions on the year after having 6 the year before. As for Vince being the choice for the new cover, that's a little weak if you ask me. I mean the man is talented and I hope he does well but he's only played one year and isn't a proven consistant player yet. Anyway best of luck to him.
CHICKEN LITTLE @ Apr 22nd 2007 10:29AM
Madden Please listen to me if u can please dont put the radio dude back on put the monday night announcers on cuz u guys r workin with espn right? Also revamp the reciever spot and defensive back spot. Gang tackling c'mon. Superstar mode needs to be totally revamped. Put Fantasy Draft back in and put more customization stuff for making teams and playas. The Menu system sucks to. Also i want more options in create a playbook. C'mon madden i would really love to add some hot routes and audibles in my playbook. Also trick plays. Statue of Liberty, flea flicker reverses wr pass and rb pass. And why vince young? Put Peyton Manning on the cover or any proven vet c'mon.
day day @ Apr 24th 2007 11:40AM
vince young is good, he won his last 6 out of seven games and almost got his team to the playoffs, but if any rookie was deserving of the cover it was devin hester. he returned a touchdown the first play of the super bowl and broke the record for most returned touchdowns in a season.
nhojnamtrag @ Jul 8th 2007 12:14AM
Curses? People who believe in curses are, well, stoopid.
