DJ Max Portable DS spotted in the wiki
Update: As expected, the Wikipedia entry has been removed. The short life of the exceedingly dubious DJ Max Portable DS is over, suffering from a fatal "speedy deletion," and with it, our hopes of getting a North American DJ Max release, regardless of console!A new Wikipedia entry (marked for "speedy deletion") appears to contain details about a DS version of DJ Max Portable, South Korean developer Pentavision's Beatmania-like rhythm action game. While the entry claims to have culled its info from an announcement posted on the Pentavision website (reproduced on Wikipedia), a quick trip to the company page led to a dead end, as did an email to the address listed there.
According to Wikipedia, DS's DJ Max will be nearly identical to the pair of existing PSP titles, which have enjoyed a cult following among importers with dainty fingers. The entirely suspect image accompanying the entry suggests that the DS version will contain an "Online Battle" mode, which is a key component of Pentavision's PC MMO DJMAX, from which the handheld series is descended. Neither the PSP original nor its sequel includes such a mode.
DJ Max Portable DS is purportedly scheduled for release (in Korea) this September and would include an English-language option. "We think that the Nintendo console will bring the game to more players, because the Nintendo handheld has more sales than the PSP," declares a reported translation of the announcement. Sounds like flamebait, not a press release.

Where you at, sheppy?
I know you enjoyed this series on the PSP. Do you have a DS, and would you pick this up if said rumor was true?
Frip @ Apr 18th 2007 2:04PM
Joystiq's reporting on Wikis now? It even has a tag for deletion, has not one source, and has one obviously photoshopped image.

I have every console currently on the market, Dolla Dolla. And yes, I love this series.
HOWEVER, and I know I will get bashed for this, I don't feel the DS could properly emulate it. Even with a game like Ouendon and Elite Beat Agents, there was noticable compression to the audio. I won't evern get into Degaisso but that was a strictly 16bit Midi audio experience regardless. The question isn't one of whether or not the DS could handle a couple songs, but DJ Max Portable 2 has close to 150 on the disc. One of the key assets to DJ Max portable is the wide variety of music and yes, that's a concern for me. Also, I get such huge finger cramps on Degaisso for DS on my Lite. I can only imagine the digit hell my fingers would roll through on a 6 button attempt at Blythe...
Having said that, more DJ Max love is always appreciated and I do hope my concerns turn out wrong.

LOL..DS cartridges don't have enough space to hold this game. The psp game is 1.7GB, how the hell will this fit on the DS?
Kevin @ Apr 18th 2007 2:21PM
I wish this would really happen.
John @ Apr 18th 2007 2:22PM
Joystiq loses some it it's cred
fes @ Apr 18th 2007 2:25PM
Looks dodgy.
sheppy @ Apr 18th 2007 2:32PM
"The psp game is 1.7GB, how the hell will this fit on the DS?"
A large amount of that is the music videos and the uncompressed audio. Axe the videos (as seen above) and compress the hell of out of the audio (and the rhythmn gamer in me cringes) and it's possible.
Also, the image above seems photoshopped. The screen grab for the top screen appears to be the default gear on the original DJ Max Portable (gears don't tend to move between versions). Also, in the button positions, it lists Y, B, A but the left side is Left, Up, Right. B, on the PSP would be X which is reserved for Fever mode. This evidence stacks up further when you notice this version would not have a fever mode according to the screenshot. Making this a step backwards for the series. Also, the text appears tooo crisp to be a DS screenshot.
So I would definately file this under "unlikely" especially considering the press release mentions PSP vs. DS sales and in South Korea, the difference is too close to be a mentionable decision maker.

Well, seeing as though this topic is dead in the water, I wanted to ask you something sheppy.
What's the last game you got for the 360? I went to the mall for lunch today, and I played a demo of GRAW2. I came away with pleased. The first GRAW I had mixed feelings. I always felt as though, if it was third person, over the shoulder view, I would enjoy it more. The demo of GRAW2 had just that, and I left with a good feeling.
I have no next gen consoles. I have a PS2, PSP, and a DS Lite. And, how do you feel about Gears of War VS Resistance? I enjoyed playing Resistance with a friend of mine, but I find I was a bit more satisfied with Co-op Gears.
Extinction @ Apr 18th 2007 3:02PM
"A large amount of that is the music videos and the uncompressed audio"
There is no uncompressed audio. PSPs UMD drive isn't fast enough for uncompressed. PSP games MUST use ATRAC, which is already compressed.
Oh, and the picture is fake. Look at the way the angles of the screen don't match the angles of the system
Dan Dickinson @ Apr 18th 2007 3:13PM
So you don't actually make any effort to source or confirm a very obviously faked wikipedia page. You instead post it as news. Then, after it gets deleted, you leave this post up.
What is this, Drudge Report?
sheppy @ Apr 18th 2007 3:19PM
Last game I got for 360 was Guitar Hero 2. Before that was DDR Universe (and immediately sold it on Ebay... god that mix sucked) and Lost Planet before that.
GRAW2, I should DL the demo someday. I tend to avoid tactical shooters (and shooters in general, actually). I've been hearing good things so I figure if I'll snag a copy, I'll wait until it's cheaper.
Resistance versus Gears, huh? Hmm, I actually don't think they are comparable, truthfully. They are two entirely different beasts. Coop is definately better in Gears but I think gameflow works much better in Resistance. For instance, I felt in Resistance I was constantly working towards something whereas in Gears, I felt my only reward for traveled was yet another checkpoint area filled with X number of monsters to kill before I could move on. Parts of Gears had me going "damn, this is cool as all hell (like where I had to shoot propane tanks to fight back the darkness or chase a flaming car through a dark alleyway)" but most of the experience felt generic to me. Including the writing. But keep in mind, as I type this, I still haven't beaten it. In fact, I lost interest shortly past the second wave of torgue bow equipped locust. I should probably finish it sometime soon. I was a huge fan of Lost Planet though I feel during a large number of sequences, your chances of survival are dick once you lose your mech.
shase @ Apr 18th 2007 3:29PM
@Sheppy
One thing that I love about DJMax and Pump it up are the music videos in the background. I love how they are all videos than DDR's weird pattern in the background (even worse in Supernova....) If they remove the videos then its definitely a different experience and definitely not a buy for me at least.
Dan Elkayam @ Apr 18th 2007 3:32PM
Ooh goody! If this is similar to beatmania, which is similar to O2Jam. I'll probably be hooked instantly.
Dolla Dolla @ Apr 18th 2007 3:38PM
@sheppy
My friend got so fed up with Lost Planet's difficulty that he sold it lol I so wish they had co-op on that game, would've been beautiful.
I just beat God of War last night. I'm itchy for God of War 2, cause I hear it's better in all areas.
sheppy @ Apr 18th 2007 3:57PM
@shase
Thank you. I thought I was the only person who preferred Pump It Up to DDR. The local machine is mostly barren and abandoned.
@Dolla Dolla
I won't spoil anything but suffice it to say, GOW2 is indeed an excellent game and will leave you hungry for the third.
Also, your friend is weak. Majority of Lost Planet equates to either being faster and outrunning explosions or being bigger and outgunning the enemy. Green Eyes was a bitch though. But only until you found the pattern. Unless, of course, you're a dumbass like me and think your first battle with Green Eyes, you're supposed to do something other than run away....
JBGUY2K @ Apr 18th 2007 3:58PM
It's actually very well possible to have this on the DS and not compress the shit out of the audio. Some of the expansion bay on the DS (AKA the gba port) in which they can make a pack containing most of the audio. This is gonna be a sure import for me, kekeke.
shase @ Apr 18th 2007 4:24PM
@sheppy
Yeah its kinda sad PIU never got what it deserved releasing on consoles... i think people didnt like the diagnals... I would really love for them to give PIU another try by releasing Zero on the consoles but it probably wont happen... (and the closest D&B is 1.5 hours away :( )
sheppy @ Apr 18th 2007 4:26PM
"Some of the expansion bay on the DS (AKA the gba port) in which they can make a pack containing most of the audio."
If not even Nintendo could make this seem like a good idea with Daigasso Band Brothers, I highly doubt Pentavision is going to make it a viable option.
sheppy @ Apr 18th 2007 5:15PM
I do so love the new update...
"As expected, the Wikipedia entry has been removed. The short life of the exceedingly dubious DJ Max Portable DS is over, suffering from a fatal "speedy deletion," and with it, our hopes of getting a North American DJ Max release, regardless of console!"
I wonder if they'd ever spent ANY time with the imports. I mean, in DJ Max Portable 2, it seems like 3/4s of the songs are even in English. If ever there was an import friendly title, this is it. When you first start it up, it asks for your language even.
Plus, even if it was hitting DS, that was no indication it would finally see NA stores.
Khash @ Apr 18th 2007 5:38PM
"We think that the Nintendo console will bring the game to more players, because the Nintendo handheld has more sales than the PSP,"
This is so fake. Wishful thinking from a Nintendo fanboy.
And shame on you Joystiq for reporting on this. This is fake news and you're not The Daily Show.
Megaqwerty @ Apr 18th 2007 10:00PM
"If this is similar to beatmania, which is similar to O2Jam. I'll probably be hooked instantly."
That made a little part of me die inside.
As previously stated, this is obviously fake: it was posted on the Wikipedia and removed within a matter of hours.
DJMax International Edition is in English. Pure, unadulterated English. If you own a PSP, you have no reason to not own it. Unless you have arthritis.
There is a homebrew based on the idea of DJMaxDS, but it hasn't progressed terribly. For that matter, there's also AmplituDS.
But I could care less: I just got my hands on Beatmania Distorted.
