Isn't this a bit fast to say they are against each other? You make it sound like they're enemies, when I'm sure they both like each other's ideas and formulas.

Regardless of whether or not they're in competition with each other, the real winners are gamers. Although, this whole yearly release thing worries me... hasn't done very much for Madden.

If I remember correctly, MTV owns some kind of patent on video game drum controllers. Doesn't sound like it would be worth it for Red Octane to pursue anything in that direction.

Guitar Hero is awesome, don't get me wrong. In fact I've played it almost every day since I picked it up earlier this month. However, making a game that incorporates all popular instruments seems a bit over the top. If you are willing to sit around with three of your friends playing fake plastic instruments, you should really just start a band.

Will have to see if Hamonix can pull it off, after all the world needs another MTV Music Generator doesn't it?

#2 I don't see how we're getting a winner here... RedOctane have MTV attached to them and Harmonix no longer have a well-known hardware contract.

"RedOctane will continue down the simple and proven route, while Harmonix is going for something bigger -- much bigger."

And *that* is the classic difference between a publisher and a developer.

Competition spurs innovation. I think this is a good thing!

There is a world of difference between the same game every year and the same game with COMPLETELY different content (i.e. different songs). There are still tons of amazing songs out there they have the potential to work with, and I see absolutely nothing wrong with GH being whored out, just please try to keep the integrity with the series and include GOOD songs. The universal good. Shit. Fun to play too. None of this three chord shit.
