Commodore Gaming releases high-end PCs
Commodore Gaming, a conglomerate formed when several Dutch upstarts joined forces in 2005 to buy the Commodore name (but not the technology or suicidal business sense), is finally ready for action. Today the company began selling two high-end Wintel boxes in the UK, Ireland, and online. Starting at £1759 (just over $3500 at the current exchange rate), these juggernauts are a pricey way to play all those PC games you've already been playing on a cheaper rig. But wait! For no additional charge, you can customize your Commodore with a fruity paint job of your choice called a "C-Kin." Are you slavering with excitement yet?

Hmm, buying the commodore name was a good buisness move.
without it, they would just be considered those retards that slap stickers on overpriced computers.
Rubang B @ Apr 23rd 2007 8:18PM
For $3,500 I could buy 9 Wiis and 9 DS Lites and still have $80 for burritos.
Or I could buy a Wii, a 360 core, a 360 premium, a 360 elite, a 360 HD-DVD drive, a 20 gig PS3, a 60 gig PS3, a DS Lite, and a PSP, and have $470 left for burritos.
Or I could buy $3,500 of burritos.
Damono @ Apr 23rd 2007 8:23PM
can never have enough burritos.
Autocrawler @ Apr 23rd 2007 8:27PM
Real gamers build their own gaming PCs.
And please, don't even bring up the cost comparisons between consoles and PCs. Comparing consoles to PC is like comparing toyotas to ferraris, they are simply in different leagues based on performance-the difference on most crossplatform titles is simply staggering in favor of the PC.
EihBeir @ Apr 23rd 2007 8:27PM
Mmmm....fruity paint jobs and burritos...
Chris @ Apr 23rd 2007 8:40PM
I love how worked up PC gamers get when Consoles are mentioned. My cousin gets easily frustrated when he plays with Legos at night. He's four. Yet PC gamers who rant about how PCs are better than consoles just seem to remind me of my cousin when he gets frustrated....

@Autocrawler
Yeah, I agree...real men DO build their own rigs. I do mine myself as well, but my second computer was an Amiga 500. My first was a fucking craptacular TSR Color Computer, I WANTED a C64 but my parents got fast-talked into the CoCo by some Radio Shack retard. Anyway, so my first manly man gaming computer was that Amiga, and if I had money to piss away, I'd buy one of these Commodore systems just for the heck of owning one. Otherwise, I totally agree...prebuilt gaming systems are a total rip-off. You can slap one together yourself or shop around for better deal on pre-built if you are a total klutz. However, it isn't really that hard to DIY and you get to learn the process, plus the satisfaction of being the builder.
Dave @ Apr 23rd 2007 9:12PM
It's really about the name. I'd buy one if I had the money to burn. Building your own system is hardcore--but nothing is as hardcore as the name, "Commodore".
wackychan @ Apr 23rd 2007 9:17PM
Until computer games get spitscreen, I find them useless. LAN parties take too much power, too much wiring and too much effort with riggs. 2 xbox 360s with 2 hdtvs and 8 people with wireless controllers and a shitload of beer.
And if someone wants to talk shit you can punch them in the face, because they are right beside you.
This is gaming.
Shawn D @ Apr 23rd 2007 9:31PM
@9
If you're a prepubescent teen that is, living with mommy and daddy. You can have your split screen, as I find it the most annoying feature in gaming there is.
I would take this rig over all of the consoles combined for the rest of my life. And yes, I build my own, but I wouldn't mind using that case :)
Rubang B @ Apr 23rd 2007 9:49PM
wackychan is right. 2 GameCubes with 8 player Double Dash is better than 8 player StarCraft because you can talk shit and punch each other. And it's HARD to be more fun than that.
This is why online gaming isn't as big as everybody wants it to be. You can't punch people in the face.
wackychan @ Apr 23rd 2007 9:52PM

So you would buy a $3500 computer just for a stupid case. Shows how smart you are....

I can name all the good oldies with split screen but none better than HIRED GUNS
great story line and sweet co-op playing. bring THAT game back

And why stop there, we could smoke crack and break out lethal weapons for tons of fun!

Does this mean I have to type Load "EA",8,1 to play Bard's Tale II again? Cause I shouldn't need to know Basic commands to launch a game in these days...
Oh and that case...it's alright, though I can probably etch the Commodore logo on a piece of plastic myself and save $3500. Or just go with this much cooler, though slightly unsettling case mod and be much, much happier with myself...

The high price is actually almost entirely due to the fact that this is not an American company, and as such, they are not thinking in dollars. Currently dollars are freakin' worthless (£1.00 = $1.998) So they set a reasonable European price, and you yanks get shafted because the wealth is so unevenly distributed in the US that most of the general populace is nowhere as rich as the national numbers would lead the rest of the world to believe. Wake up and smell the mint paper.
Evan @ Apr 23rd 2007 10:55PM
These PCs are an insult to the Commodore I remember and love! The Commodore of yesteryear built revolutionary gaming computers at relatively affordable prices, not high-priced clones made of off-the-shelf parts.
Kato @ Apr 23rd 2007 11:31PM
Is it just me or does the paint job look like it features Megatron... or Shockwave?

Do you understand english? I would want just the case, as I pointed out, I build my own...
jeez...you must certainly be a console drone with those comprehension skills....
maylon @ Apr 24th 2007 1:01AM
I have pretty much played PC games since my Amiga 500, and yet now I find console gaming more enjoyable. This is not up for debate, because its what I enjoy. However you PC loyalists absolutely flip out when this argument is brought up, I mean you really seem to get angry. I find it interesting and entertaining.
I experienced this first hand at an EB of all places. I merely asked the clerk if I should wait and buy the Wii version of RE4, or just pick up a Gamecube along with the title for about $75. At no point did I bring up the PC version, mind you. The answer I recieved was an inane diatribe about how much consoles suck and that I should build a good gaming rig for about $1000. He went on to stress how consoles will be dead within 5 years (this while I look at the walls of console titles, with a tiny island in the middle for PC games) and that I was retarded for not being into PC games anymore. Needless to say I didnt buy a damned thing.
I like console games even more now.
accidental @ Apr 24th 2007 2:15AM
Commodore has the freaking COOLEST logotype EVER. I want a T-Shirt NOW.
Rubang B @ Apr 24th 2007 2:30AM
@15, thank you.
SeriousKriss @ Apr 24th 2007 4:19AM
@ maylon : actually most PC gamers also have a console. As far as I'm aware, they just generally dislike the Xbox/360 since they "stole" and destroyed great PC franchises such as Deus Ex and Thief.
And the clerk you had to deal with is quite a find : most of the time it is the death of PC gaming that is (stupidly) prophecized, not console gaming.
Burrito @ Apr 24th 2007 4:54AM
@18 Kato: It's actually Supreme Commander
DrXym @ Apr 24th 2007 5:32AM
Erk, I could put together a gaming rig for $2000 that plays every single game in existence at its full detail & quality settings. I could probably even squeeze two SLI cards into the budget. Why the hell would I waste $1500 more?
Anyway I don't get the obsession by various companies with the Commodore logo. Anyone who even knows what Commodore is / was knows well to completely avoid it since it is to computing what the albatross is to ancient mariners.

Yeah, I don't make broad assumptions that PC gaming is dying at all, if anything gaming in general is more popular now than ever, be it PC, handheld, console, etc. I find it interesting that even with something as innocent as gaming we have found a way to draw lines between "factions" and have a lord of the flies like scenario, maybe its just the "vs." mentality of gamers?
Shawn D @ Apr 24th 2007 2:38PM
Maylon, I've been a PC gamer and a console gamer my whole life, and I'm sorta feeling the opposite as you. I would rather chill out on my PC than my consoles(360, PS3, Wii). I think it's the way genres have grown and evolved on each platform. FPS's, RTS's, and RPG's will always be my favorite on the PC, while platformers,Guitar Hero, and Sports are more desirable on my consoles.
I find Pro PC gamers like myself, constantly being bombarded with BS like the "PC is dying!", and I've had a few nasty situations arise with employees at my local EB/GS, who were mere sperm when I was tearing up Doom or playing on the Sega Master System. So I feel ya, because I didn't want to buy anything afterwards either. I just find the majority of the crap flowing the other direction.
WiiPC @ Apr 24th 2007 4:57PM
I have $2300 pc build from November that smashes ps3 graphics which i believe is based off a Nvidia 7800 which is good i guess but middle of the line for PC now. So i got a wii because if i want hoss visuals i'll goto the pc. if i wanna play tournaments with friends and use my Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughn mii on wii baseball then i'll do that.
Defenestrator2.0 @ Apr 24th 2007 5:51PM

Blarg, damn you HTML! You have failed me again.
Media Card Reader: AZiO CAR102-131 USB 2.0 Card Reader
Joey Bhananas @ May 27th 2007 5:45AM
Whoa.... You got a Media card reader in that bundle too?!?! :)
My first computer: A Timex/Sinclair 1000... My only thought on the matter is my parents were sadistic.
My second computer: A Commodore 128. At the time, with all the bells and whistles (no media card reader, alas) it was about $1500.
Then I bought myself an Amiga 3000 and joined the hundreds of others that knew what a good computer was, and it wasn't anything Windows ran on.
I'm now reading news stories about the Amiga coming back, and I'm hoping it happens, since I still hate that *@&$^(! Windows.
I consider myself a fella that liked Commodore computers, smart enough not to like the companies that owned/marketed them, but they always made a great machine. Sure, whatever that one great machine was was always surrounded by Commodore-crap boxes, but ahh well..
Even though I've stuck with a "computer company" like that since the early 1980's, no way in @!*&$^ would I buy one of those Dutch numbers. Not when I can hire a 15 year old that knows what he's doing to shill me parts for $1275 :)
As for us "Silly Americans" and our "Worthless Dollars," last I heard Europe pays more than twice what we pay for Windows Vista, which goes in these Commie-boxes and gets shipped back to the US at these prices, so it obviously goes both ways. I really think it has less to do with our currency and more to do with whatever a company/tariff asessment can get away with.
Anything more is just oversniffing the ink at the mint.
