2 Things

1: Sony is on there twice, down to 32

2: Crave owns Atari, right?

So its really 31 (as individual companies, of course, although they will be seperate exhibits)

1) The Sony Hardware group (Sony Computer Entertainment) and the (mostly) MMO publishing folks at Sony Online Entertainment are 2 separate legal and brand entities.

2) Crave does not own Atari, or vice versa.

Thanks for playing though :)

Also, what this list doesn't reflect is all the developers who are either owned by one of th4e exhibiting publishers, or who attend under their name, because they're there to showcase a title being published by them.

In a more press focused event than in the past few years, you can bet that publishers are going to parade those developers who can talk the most eloquently about their new hotness to journalists.

These companies won't have their own booth, so they're not on that list. That along will boost this list to 1-200 different companies.

OMG, that comment about "half the readers" and then "tabbed browsing" was spot on... =)

Then who owns Atari now...?

And i did admit to them being deemed seperate entities, but again, it depends on your definition of "company"

Atari the company (renamed from Infogrames Inc.) appears to be majorly owned by Infogrames Entertainment SA in France.

And yeah, I was nitpicking about the Sony definition :)

Tried to explain this to people but nobody seemed to understand. Folks planning to travel great distances for this event may be very disappointed. This is a very small event facility. It's typically used by single companies for product launch parties, like when Lucas launched their Battle of Britain game many years ago.

It was recollection of that party that told me E3 was truly dead. This new event is scarcely a shadow of what once was. E3 joins Comdex in the trade show dustbin of history.

Stangely enough, I'm really excited about this year's E3. I got my invitation in the mail Saturday and have already made travel arrangements to attend. All the good stuff at E3 was behind closed doors, and this year's show appears to entirely behind closed doors. Laid-back meetings chilling with developers in their hotel suites? Being able to play new games without waiting a few hours for the opportunity? Doesn't sound half bad.

Maybe I won't get to party like a rock star this year, but I don't think I'll be disappointed I made the trip.

E3 is on life support, and has become less relevant. We'll soon learn this, when far less news travels out this year than in past years.

Consumers will be less informed about upcoming products from the industry in general, which means distributors are going to have to spend more time/effort/money trying to get the word out about their products. Disbtributors will realize they don't need E3.

E3 will eventual cease to exist.
