Miyamoto nominated for Time 100

Yes, Time's last list of the 100 most influential people in the world broke from tradition and didn't feel the need to include anyone from the game industry. While nobodies like Nicolas Ghesquiere and Rain got coveted spots on the list, the leaders of a $12.5 billion industry got bupkis.
Luckily, you can help rectify this situation. Yes, you, as Time's person of the year, can go independently rate the nearly 200 candidates who are being considered for the 2007 list, including Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto. As of this posting, Miyamoto is ranked 60th, between Indra Nooyi and Albert Osterhaus (a.k.a. two people you've never heard of) with 113 votes and an average rating of 75 out of 100.
The ranking system is based on total points accrued, not the average, so more votes equals a better rank. Vote early and vote often -- it's not like you have anything better to do at work.

I was gonna vote for Miyamoto but then i saw Colbert was on the list and as much as i like miyamoto and all his fabulous games...i had to go with Colbert
Jack of No Trades @ Apr 23rd 2007 2:46PM
Wow George W. Bush is on the list! Lol, the only thing he influenced was stupidity.

Want to proof - see the "Idiocracy" movie cos it is what my view of USA :P
Anyway I got your vote Miya (85 out of 100)! but Bono has my high vote cos I'm Irish that he refused to be a knighthood.
Jack of No Trades @ Apr 23rd 2007 2:52PM
Miyamoto is a good designer/producer. In my opinion I think Hirokazu Yasuhara & Naoto Ōshima had better idea's.
hvnlysoldr @ Apr 23rd 2007 2:53PM
That's weird. I looked at the all stats page and it says Miyamoto is at #11 average 94 rating and 2,442 votes.
Yoshi Likes Boys @ Apr 23rd 2007 2:53PM
Come on Jack, you know full well that influence in these terms is an absolute value. Negative influence = influence nevertheless.
TIME completely screwed the pooch with that "You" MOTY last year, it should have been Ahmadinejad.

Miyamoto. I think this guy's just a hood ornament now. Where he lost his touch a long time ago but is kept in a high position for morale purposes. Reminds me of a Black Sabbath reunion tour where they sound like garbage and the baby boomers are the only ones holding up their lighters.

Askzander @ Apr 23rd 2007 4:01PM
Cheater, I hope you are being sarcastic because if you're not you are a total moron.
"IQ is nothing to do with stupid. It is about intelligence."
First of all, the first sentence has horrible grammar. I assume you were trying to say,"IQ has nothing to do with stupidity." If you were, you should know that stupidity is the lack of intelligence. So intelligence does have to do with stupidity. If you don't believe me here is a definition:
Stupidity is the quality or condition of being stupid, or lacking intelligence. This quality can be attributed to both an individual himself (John Smith is stupid) or his actions, words or beliefs (John Smith's policies are stupid). The determination of who is stupid is difficult, despite attempts to measure intelligence (and thus stupidity) such as IQ tests.
"JodyAnthony: I'm sorry, you say citizens of the United States have a low IQ (generalize much?) and then go and vote for Bono of U2 fame "cos [you're] Irish that he refused to be a knighthood."
cheater: And?...."
Your original sentence again, just for amusement: "but Bono has my high vote cos I'm Irish that he refused to be a knighthood."
First of all, it is incorrect to begins a sentence with "but." Second, the first word of a sentence should always begin with a capital letter. Third, "cos" should be all caps. Fourth, "COS" is not being used properly in that sentence. None of the following meanings of the word fit into your context:
Cosmic Origins Spectrograph - Fourth Generation Spectrometer. COS is an ultraviolet spectrograph optimized for observing faint point sources with moderate spectral resolution

Crypto Operating System (COS) was the development name of a Mac compatible operating system supposedly developed by the German company Omega GmbH in the late 1990s. Omega caught the attention of technology media with impressive specifications and seemingly serious investor- and consumer information, but the operating system was never demoed publicly. The company repeatedly pushed the release date forward, gaining a reputation as vaporware or hoax. ...
Cos was an American sketch comedy/variety TV series that debuted on the ABC Network in September 1976. It was hosted by comedian Bill Cosby amd featured an ensemble cast who would perform sketches each week. The show was unsuccessful in the Neilsen ratings and was cancelled by November 1976. Cosby appeared on this series concurrently with his starring role in Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids and the film Mother, Jugs and Speed. ...
Fifth, that sentence makes no sense whatsoever.

Perhaps the fact that a lot of other countries underestimate the US or assume we're all fat, lazy and stupid is part of the reason we've been successful as a country.
It's a serious disadvantage to assume stupid shit like that.
I wonder if our low IQ is a result of success or a contributing factor? If it's a result then I guess it's safe to say we're not alone :P If it's a contributing factor then how come countries with superior IQ haven't caught on yet?
Crazylink @ Apr 23rd 2007 4:28PM

Rubang B @ Apr 23rd 2007 4:39PM
Shigeru is #2 now! It seems like they list them by average score, and then the total number of points is the tiebreaker. Now he's only behind Bhumibol (Shiggy's 93, Bhumibol's 96). Warren Buffet's right behind him at 93, and Rain, Bono, and Colbert all moved down to 92.

Bhumibol - 95
Colbert - 94
Miyamoto - 93
hvnlysoldr @ Apr 23rd 2007 5:28PM
It's not the average who wins but the most Influence points. Take the average rating times votes to get the points. But this late into the game it is reflective of the high ranks.
kihadat @ Apr 23rd 2007 5:44PM
okay, i did my part. i must have voted like 30 times for shiggy. (100, of course)
but then, i saw Gore almost getting beat by Bush. Bush! He should be like in the bottom 100. Well, it is influential, not greatest. Still, I had to start voting for Gore. The environment is really getting messed up, and he's like the only person trying to get the message out.
Mr Khan @ Apr 23rd 2007 7:13PM
@ Mike
I'd ALMOST agree with you, as Miyamato seems to be branching off into the mundane a lot lately, but remember, it was he who caused all the delays in Twilight Princess by coming in and vastly restructuring the game sometime in 2005, thus proving he can still hash out the epic (as does his new work, Super Mario Galaxy), while still blathering on about things like his "wife-o-meter"
(goes away to vote many times)

Screw this Miyamoto crap, and Iwata and Yamauchi and Yokoi crap. They were all purveyors of an kiddy-held industry!!! It was Sony that made gaming mainstream, and if Playstation wasn't so successful Miyamoto wouldn't know what to do for Wii. So vote Kutaragi!!!!
Besides what's Miyamoto done recently?
