Jack,

Not true. You are assuming that the comparison is between two games of equal quality, but one has more of it, allowing that "same feeling" for longer.

Think of it this way. I give you 3 million dollars to make a racing game. You could make a game with 500 cars and tons of tracks. But the gameplay will likely be less thought out, the physics thrown together, and everything lacking details. Or, you could make a game with 50 cars only, giving you more resources to tweek gameplay, add detail, perfect physics, etc.

Basically, do you want the game to be funner for less total time or less fun, but for longer. If I can get 30 hours out of a game before it is boring, I consider it a good purchase.

"You know that feeling you get when you play a game that you like. With a longer game you experience that feeling for a longer time. I would rather have a fighting game with 60 characters than a fighting game with 10. Same goes for racing games. More car/tracks=better. Unless you have ADHD then maybe shorter games would be for you."

Actually, let's put it this way. Take a game like Oblivion and my experience with it. I leave the sewers and start talking to people. Before I know it, I'm stuck in sidequests hell so I just keep doing them. Eventually, I say screw it and move on. I'm left with a feeling on non-progression and everywhere I look, even more people have even more stuff for me to do. Before I know it, I'm facing a constant stream of Deja Vu in my questing and even the main campaign becomes a drag. By hour 8, I'm left with such a feeling on unaccomplishment that I just give up. 8 hours, I feel like I've done nothing (despite closing the first Oblivion Gate). I know it's a 100 hour game and that bothers me. If the first 8 felt like a chore, what the hell with the other 92 feel like?

Incidently, quantity does NOT equal quality. Take VF5 for example. Hardly a huge roster of characters and yet you can grab one and as you get better, there is a general feeling of ownership as you progress your skills. And while it doesn't have any record breaking character rosters, it feels much more balanced than a game like King Of Fighters 99 where the roster is SOOOOOO massive, there is nothing that really keeps the characters from becoming mere shadows of one another.

It's a simple dilemna. Do you want a game that has perfectly balanced gameplay, tightened controls, or do you merely content for the sake of having content? Sometimes having the 500+ car roster isn't an asset if the base gameplay needs HUGE tweaking and balancing. Just ask Polyphony. And yes, I just burned Sony.

@Sheppy

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that Sony burn. GT4 was quite near perfect. Unless of course you buy GT games to race against the computer... or for car graphics customization... or for 1080i... or for realistic damage... But GT4 doesn't need all those to be a great game.

The selection of tracks and cars more than made up for those minor details, especially to the racing sim enthusiast. Plus, B-spec made all the unlocking easy :) Time-trails and split-screen multiplayer is what GT is about.

Grab a wheel, pick your favorite car, pick your favorite track, and work on your drifting skillz ;)

Wow, NewbieZilla... your link just broke news of an Xbox 360 exclusive losing exclusiveness.

Good eye, sheppy.

I wonder if this is true? Perhaps it's a timed exclusive. If I was Sony, I'd be tooting my horn on this one before it drops in Japan.

They are treating it as 360 only. Granted that is the unofficial site, but the official one is in Japanese, naturally. And, ah, my skillz there are lacking.

And its hardly as if they'd be neglecting to mention a PS3 version.

So, whats the alternative? A mistake on ESRB? If one mistake, maybe more? But, of course, i'm getting ahead of myself.

Ok, here is the full scoop.

The truth is this is not the final rating for Mass Effect. I know it's on the ESRB's website and all, but it just isn't the final rating yet.

We have said all along that Mass Effect would likely get a teen or mature rating, but the rating is not finalized yet. We have submitted the game (what is completed so far, which is not everything yet) to the ESRB for the rating suggesting that it is rated as Teen or Mature. They will begin to run through the game and see what they think. They may ask for edits or changes. Then there is back and forth between BioWare and the ESRB until both parties are happy and the game is given the final rating.

The reason I haven't posted till now is I had to confirm this before giving out the information incase I had been misinformed, but I haven't been.

Now you know. I'll leave this thread open, but the usual "Until you read a rating here on our forums, the game isn't rated" still does apply.

Now you know. :)
