Finally, Wii at Gamestop and EB this Sunday
Looks like Gamestop can stop complaining about the Wii shortage -- this week. We received an internal Gamestop email (pictured at right) from one of our more reliable tipsters. The memo states that participating stores will receive 200 copies of Gamestop's sales flyers by today, which they must hold on to until Friday. The stores that received these flyers will receive "additional product featured in this ad." The stores are to hold all Wii hardware they receive this week for Sunday, along with the Xbox 360 Elite and PS2 (that puppy is still hot). This memo we received comes from the mid-East Coast. If you have a decent relationship with your Gamestop proprietor than you may be able to politely ask if they'll be a part of this little thing. Our source tells us that his store already has about 20 Wii, along with ten Xbox Elites (including black 120 GB hard drives, controllers and charge kits). So it looks like the first indicator your local shop is part of this sale is to check Friday and see if they've put out the flyers -- then get there early Sunday if you're still in need of Wii (or really want an Elite).

I already got mine from Best Buy last Sunday thanks to you guys.
SYN @ Apr 24th 2007 11:11PM
The add on the right automatically turning the sound on at every page click, and forcing to listen to hillary fucking duff has made me forget what i was going to say.
that has to be THE most pathetic ad i have seen. what the fuck, joystiq?
Kevin @ Apr 24th 2007 11:17PM
Please remove that fucking add!!! Seriously I don't want to hear that shit.
thref2004 @ Apr 24th 2007 11:18PM
What SYN said... Sweet baby jesus that's the most annoying song I've ever heard...
Kevin @ Apr 24th 2007 11:17PM
I meant ad.... shit. Anyway remove it, please k thx.
Chris @ Apr 24th 2007 11:18PM
I read that letter, and it says at the bottom "we recommend you hold on to at least two of each color (of DS) to have opening on Sunday." I'd be pissed off if I went into Gamestop and wanted to buy a DS on friday and was told they were out, only to find out later they lied just so they could have a couple units for Sunday. Does anyone else find that crappy?
rom @ Apr 24th 2007 11:27PM
I was just listening to some music(Come Sail Away), only to be interrupted by that damn ad. I had like 10 windows open and couldn't find which one was the source. I was very sad it was joystiq :)
scott @ Apr 24th 2007 11:28PM
That's what they call business Chris, it's mean to bring people into the store, so they purchase more.
Blizz419 @ Apr 24th 2007 11:38PM
why are you guys bitching so much about an ad, i don't even see this ad or hear it, oh wait i wonder if thats because i am not stupid enough to be using internet explorer lol
Wendy @ Apr 24th 2007 11:43PM
I can't wait to get one! I have a friend that has a 20 foot screen that he has offered to let me use it on!
rom @ Apr 24th 2007 11:47PM
@ Blizz419
Ummm. I was using FireFox at the time.
3cubedminus3squared @ Apr 24th 2007 11:50PM
Gamestop/EB is one of those places I won't go looking for a Wii, or anything else for that matter, right up there with Circuit City. I'll wait until Target has them in their add.
Morisato @ Apr 24th 2007 11:52PM
Just refresh the browser until you get a verizon ad, featuring Hillary Duff on the "strawberry" phone. I had to listen to it after all the bitching. LoL
Ian Von Porter @ Apr 24th 2007 11:59PM
Ads? What ads? You guys need FireFox with ad blocker and no script.
Anyways, is Joystiq gonna report every single time that Wiis are available? We get it... the supply demand is out of sync.. whoopie doo. Let move on.
GoonieGooGoo @ Apr 25th 2007 12:02AM
There have been Wiis everywhere around me since 2 weeks ago....you just have to ask....in both Best Buy and GAMESTOP.
Tim @ Apr 25th 2007 12:24AM
For all those complaining, combine these two add-ons with Firefox and never have this problem again.

They'll be at Target next week, too. Trust me.
NoHitHair @ Apr 25th 2007 12:55AM
@16:
Thanks very much. I installed both of them and they're working well. That helped a lot.
Dustin @ Apr 25th 2007 1:03AM
NoScript and Adblock have worked like a charm for me for over a year now. Good luck all, no Hilary Duff Beer. I mean here.
samfish @ Apr 25th 2007 1:25AM
"Anyways, is Joystiq gonna report every single time that Wiis are available? We get it... the supply demand is out of sync.. whoopie doo. Let move on."
Yeah, it's not because people might actually like to know when they'll have a chance to get the thing, is it?
samfish @ Apr 25th 2007 1:29AM
Ugh. That ad IS annoying. Who the FUCK still thinks it's ok to made an ad with automatic sound? I guess I'll make it a point to never buy anything from Verizon again.
God DAMNIT...that might be worse than "Congratulations! You have won a (free crappy electronic device)!"
I swear to God, if I ever find the cunt who records those awful, Hell-spawned ads, I'd probably do something that would land me in prison.
ARRRRRGH!
Danger @ Apr 25th 2007 2:38AM
They have had Wii's instock here for over a month easy, i didn't even know there was a shortage anywhere.

I feel so bad for rom. The ad blew my mind so hard that I forgot what I was even listening to at the time. But he was listening to "Come Sail Away" and NOTHING should interrupt that, ever.
Rubang B @ Apr 25th 2007 3:06AM
And when I said it blew my mind I meant in the bad way, like it blew my mind out of my ass or something. I'm adblocking now.
shadow @ Apr 25th 2007 3:49AM
i was at my local walmart recently and saw a few black 360 controllers and behind glass i saw a few 360 hard drives but i couldn't find a price tag on the glass but they looked dark.
go360 @ Apr 25th 2007 7:12AM
I might go and buy an Elite this weekend.Does anyone know if it has a BenQ Drive?
Alex @ Apr 25th 2007 8:25AM
What the hell is the conversation here about?
About the ad: Didn't pop up for me thank god, must be real crappy
About "Come sail away": Out of curiosity I had to check that song, not bad
About the damn Wii in stores: Anyone remotely interested in that system would look for it by themselves like I did and own one by now
fightinfilipino @ Apr 25th 2007 8:59AM
ads? what are those? :)
(happy firefox and adblock plus user)
sheppy @ Apr 25th 2007 9:22AM
"Yeah, it's not because people might actually like to know when they'll have a chance to get the thing, is it?"
Three words... Cheap Ass Gamer. The last two times Joystiq and Kotaku reported on Wii sightings, it had already been several days old on www.cheapassgamer.com. Sometimes, you can even check the VG ads 2-3 weeks ahead to find out who is doing the best deal on an upcoming game (like finding out CC was going to be the only store to actually put Pokemon on sale for $27). Yeppers, Cag is an awesome resource which actually has ALL this info on a regular basis. So no, there is no reason for Joystiq to reiterate all of this stuff, unless they get an informant like today.
Brendon @ Apr 25th 2007 10:38AM
Regarding ads, I've found this to be useful:
http://everythingisnt.com/hosts.html
And since this has become a post about pop-up ads and Styx, does anyone else remember the "Paradise Theater" album with the laser etching right on the vinyl? That was wicked cool, man...
samfish @ Apr 25th 2007 11:30AM
That's how the internet and blogs in particular tend to work, Sheppy. One site gets the information and it gets spread out to a wider audience via other blogs...hopefully with a link back to the original source.
So yes- there is a reason for Joystiq to reiterate this stuff.
Besides, at least this is news.
...unlike, say, what the X button does in Halo 3.
JET @ Apr 25th 2007 11:32AM
Louisville has seen a pretty steady stream of Wii. Target has been getting batches just about every weekend, along with Circuit City, Best Buy, and even a smattering at Toys R Us. They still sell out, but it is now taking a few days instead of a few minutes.
A quick glance at Target Monday afternoon revealed a half dozen sitting on the shelf. Are people really having a problem finding these?

To rom:
Weird, I read your posting about an hour ago, listening to an 80's radio station on the 'net, and that song 'Come Sail Away' just come on.

That was the single funniest comment I've read on joystiq to date.
Rubang B @ Apr 25th 2007 4:56PM
@Brendon, yes. I've got too much, time on my hands, and it's ticking away, ticking away from me!
