I read that letter, and it says at the bottom "we recommend you hold on to at least two of each color (of DS) to have opening on Sunday." I'd be pissed off if I went into Gamestop and wanted to buy a DS on friday and was told they were out, only to find out later they lied just so they could have a couple units for Sunday. Does anyone else find that crappy?

I was just listening to some music(Come Sail Away), only to be interrupted by that damn ad. I had like 10 windows open and couldn't find which one was the source. I was very sad it was joystiq :)

That's what they call business Chris, it's mean to bring people into the store, so they purchase more.

Gamestop/EB is one of those places I won't go looking for a Wii, or anything else for that matter, right up there with Circuit City. I'll wait until Target has them in their add.

Just refresh the browser until you get a verizon ad, featuring Hillary Duff on the "strawberry" phone. I had to listen to it after all the bitching. LoL

Ads? What ads? You guys need FireFox with ad blocker and no script.

Anyways, is Joystiq gonna report every single time that Wiis are available? We get it... the supply demand is out of sync.. whoopie doo. Let move on.

For all those complaining, combine these two add-ons with Firefox and never have this problem again.

NoScript and Adblock have worked like a charm for me for over a year now. Good luck all, no Hilary Duff Beer. I mean here.

Yeah, it's not because people might actually like to know when they'll have a chance to get the thing, is it?

Ugh. That ad IS annoying. Who the FUCK still thinks it's ok to made an ad with automatic sound? I guess I'll make it a point to never buy anything from Verizon again.

God DAMNIT...that might be worse than "Congratulations! You have won a (free crappy electronic device)!"
I swear to God, if I ever find the cunt who records those awful, Hell-spawned ads, I'd probably do something that would land me in prison.
ARRRRRGH!

I feel so bad for rom. The ad blew my mind so hard that I forgot what I was even listening to at the time. But he was listening to "Come Sail Away" and NOTHING should interrupt that, ever.

What the hell is the conversation here about?

About the ad: Didn't pop up for me thank god, must be real crappy

About "Come sail away": Out of curiosity I had to check that song, not bad

About the damn Wii in stores: Anyone remotely interested in that system would look for it by themselves like I did and own one by now

"Yeah, it's not because people might actually like to know when they'll have a chance to get the thing, is it?"

Three words... Cheap Ass Gamer. The last two times Joystiq and Kotaku reported on Wii sightings, it had already been several days old on www.cheapassgamer.com. Sometimes, you can even check the VG ads 2-3 weeks ahead to find out who is doing the best deal on an upcoming game (like finding out CC was going to be the only store to actually put Pokemon on sale for $27). Yeppers, Cag is an awesome resource which actually has ALL this info on a regular basis. So no, there is no reason for Joystiq to reiterate all of this stuff, unless they get an informant like today.

Regarding ads, I've found this to be useful:

http://everythingisnt.com/hosts.html

And since this has become a post about pop-up ads and Styx, does anyone else remember the "Paradise Theater" album with the laser etching right on the vinyl? That was wicked cool, man...

That's how the internet and blogs in particular tend to work, Sheppy. One site gets the information and it gets spread out to a wider audience via other blogs...hopefully with a link back to the original source.

So yes- there is a reason for Joystiq to reiterate this stuff.

Besides, at least this is news.
...unlike, say, what the X button does in Halo 3.

Louisville has seen a pretty steady stream of Wii. Target has been getting batches just about every weekend, along with Circuit City, Best Buy, and even a smattering at Toys R Us. They still sell out, but it is now taking a few days instead of a few minutes.

A quick glance at Target Monday afternoon revealed a half dozen sitting on the shelf. Are people really having a problem finding these?
