Coke runs out of DS, Wii rewards in four days
Coke drinkers love them some Nintendo, it seems. The newest phase of the My Coke Rewards customer loyalty program, which began on April 16, was sold out of all available Nintendo merchandise by April 20, according to the deal-watchers on slickdeals.net.Yes, that means that at least a few people managed to redeem the 3250 reward points needed for a Nintendo DS and the 6250 points for a Wii in less than four days. For those keeping score at home, that translates to 1084 bottles of Coke for the DS or 2084 bottles for the Wii. In four days. Are these people buying drinks for Army battalions or something?
Slower drinkers needn't worry, though -- the DS and Wii reappeared on the rewards site yesterday afternoon, meaning that more people can pursue obesity and tooth decay as they pursue their Nintendo system of choice. God bless America.

Oh dear it might be more death from overdue.

Holy cow!
Matt @ Apr 25th 2007 5:04PM
So these rewards are time based? They only had FOUR DAYS?
I somehow think they had been saving up for quite a while...otherwise that's about the dumbest rewards program ever conceived.
reppy @ Apr 25th 2007 5:36PM
Thank goodness they can burn off all those calories playing Wii Sports. That is, if they're even able to keep the controls stable.

You have been able to accrue coke reward points for damn near over a year now. I've been cashing them out of Blockbuster game rentals at 65 points a piece for about that long.
Also, you get 10 points per 12 pack, and 3 points per 20oz cap. You can enter a maximum of 10 codes per day. So no, these people did NOT drink that much coke in four days; they just didn't spend their points on other little stuff.

Is the Harrier Jet still available?
bobartig @ Apr 25th 2007 6:40PM
The harrier jet was pepsi. But there was a program that you could 'buy' pepsi points for some amount of cash (to make up for some swag if you were just a few short), so one guy, who was an avid military collector, spent like $700,000 for the necessary points to get the jet, and tried to cash in. When he couldn't get a @$23M (or some pretty high value) jet, he sued Pepsi for fraud, breach of contract. The internet says Pepsi won the suit.
Limey @ Apr 25th 2007 9:53PM
Well it was most likely people who had been saving points for a while, then finally cashed in for a Wii/DS.
Umgawa @ Apr 25th 2007 7:20PM
Actually, a guy I work with came up with a method for accumulating Pepsi bottle caps back when Pepsi was doing that thing where they were giving away an Xbox 360 every ten minutes. He went to a White Sox game, then stuck around afterward and picked up all of the Pepsi and Mountain Dew bottle caps he could find in and around the ballpark. He had a few-hundred caps after two games. I don't imagine it's probably that terribly difficult to adjust the method for Coca-Cola caps.

Did you know that Gatorade actually causes tooth decay faster than Coke?
Vegan @ Apr 25th 2007 7:33PM
I guess you could always resell the Coke... Nice if you own a restaurant or something.

Damn, that sucks. I want a Harrier jet too! (armaments included)
Al2x @ Apr 25th 2007 9:02PM
LOL @ Harrier Jet. I wonder if that guy really thought he would be getting a Jet.
Matt @ Apr 25th 2007 9:22PM
This story is so misleading...someone fix it.

"For those keeping score at home, that translates to 1084 bottles of Coke for the DS or 2084 bottles for the Wii."
One bottle of coke: One dollar. 3 points.
12 Pack of Coke: About 2.50$ Dollars. 10 points.
12 packs = 10 points...bottle equals...3.....mmkay...10 times 108 equals....108 coke 12 packs..about 1080..108 times 2.50................
.......
....
..
250+ dollars? 250+ DOLLARS FOR A FUCKING DS?!

It's certainly feasible to get enough points for a Wii; I've been snagging the codes off the 12packs of coke we go through at work, which is drank by the entire department. We've been spending them on blockbuster rentals, but if we'd been saving them all up it might 've ended up being around 6k.
peedy @ May 11th 2007 8:16PM
I have been saving up for about a year now and work in a Hosp setting where everyone gives me there caps and boxes..I have entered codes EVERY DAY never missing so I have well over 9000 points accumulated total...I have spent some on a PSP, over 200 bucks in Sony gift cards, Mags, Coke products and Coke Teady Bear...Im at 5500 points now so close to the WII but would never spend all those points for just that....Infact the points system has gone through the roof over the last couple of month (as Coke stated it would) but come on! When the game first started you could get a $10 sony gift card for 85 points and also a new PSP for 1500...Now they have a lame nintendo DS for 3250 and $200 Sony gift card for 4000...I see advertising for My Coke Rewards all the time and very misleading in what it takes to get the decent prizes. As stated in earlier post you get 3 points per cap on the bottles and 10 points or slightly more now on the 12-24 fridge boxes. The catch though YOU CAN ONLY ENTER TEN CAPS OR BOXES A DAY!!!! This is where they get you...The boxes are very difficult to come by on a large scale. The bottle tops not as hard but only worth 3 points. If you enter everyday for a year tough to win the top prizes!!
Lastly Coke also states they will offer other incentives such as double point days...Well in the year I have been here only 1 day like that has come along..
I still play in hopes they will get some decent prizes and people keep giving me 100's of caps a week.
Would be nice for coke to have a bonus day where you could enter has many caps or boxes that you have in your possesion...Now thats an incentive

The fine print in the coke rules state that you must have the printed code for 90 days after claiming your prize. Does anyone have any other info on this?
