The only condition is that you have a $5000 rig with $2000 in graphics cards and a custom water cooling solution... otherwise, the aliens look like harmless, amorphous blobs of goo.

Hilarious writing, great job.

But what's the deal with someone always posting idiocy about the cost of PC gaming? It's almost as bad as the obligatory posts about "[any new console] is the suxors." A bit of advice for the posters - my gaming pc cost me $800 - about the same price as any other decent pc. I've had it since 2003, with no other upgrades, and it's still running strong.

In other words, my gaming rig cost me about $150 more than a regular PC. Any one of my consoles cost more than that, and I've gotten the most gaming use out of the PC. Go figure.

Yeah my rig cost about 500 base with a decent pci express card for 250, and another gig of RAM. It has been able to run every new game on the highest or second to highest settings. I figure soon enough every 360 game will be on PC anyway, whats the point of shelling out the cash for a console that will crash 3x more than a PC, and not be fixable by me?

@CowboyGA

Simply put, it's the lame excuse people love to use. They hear terms like Quad SLi, consider it the only way PC games work, and proceed to price components, and LIMIT their knowledge on that factor alone. DX10 cards are gonna start flooding the market at less than $200 pretty soon so SLIing a rig will soon be only about a couple hundred more than a PS3 to have a nice rig that won't need upgrading for at least 3 years. Sure, you won't get 240 fps on Half-Life 2, Episode 2..... but seriously, who NEEDS 240 fps?

There is a common misconception with PC gaming. And I can use a car analogy. If your only purpose is to get from point A to B, there is no REASON to buy the Dodge Viper when a Corolla suits as well. The Viper is about performance and maxing shit out. If you're a PC gamer needing to be on the constant cusp, then yeah, PC is expensive. If all you want is a PC that runs Shadowrun at a playable framerate, the Corolla is your beast.

The fist post is clearly part of the MS "information" campaign

Look at the best games on 360 - GRAW, Oblivion, Rainbow 6, Lost Planet, Gears - other than Crackdown, you have the same or similar games on PC (no surprise, as MS is here simply to protect its PC market). 360 even hase the same windows-grade cheap quality. So, if most people have a PC lying in their homes anyway, why would you buy the 360 (especially as the PC has better controls for these games, AND free multiplayer?)

Easy! You convince people that the 360 graphics - just half a gig of ram, a 2006 era graphics card, a 2800+ processor and a rubbish, noisy drive - cannot be duplicated unless you buy a PC worth "7000 dollars". Smart. Really smart.

All you "I ONLY PAID $700 FOR MY AWESOME GAMING PC" guys are full of it. If you're running anything less than a $400-$600 graphics card, you're not going to be anywhere near pants-shitting levels. You can't get a decent hard drive, good RAM, mobo, power supply, case, and cooling fans (among whatever other accessories you may need) for $200-300.

If your rig didn't cost you at least $900, your rig isn't going to be good enough to deliver on what the developers are hinting at. End of story.

Not to start wars, but consoles exist because they just work. For the majority of people, they don't like having to install things, hope their vid cards are compatible, etc. Also, most people still have a 17" monitor, but they may have boughten a new big screed HDTV, so which would you rather play games on? I love PC games and consoles, but the truth is they both have their respective merits. XBox Live > BF2+TeamSpeak

XBL has been nothing but assholes and illegitimate little bastards who lack the social skills to live in society. Not to mention, good luck trying to find a game comparable to BF2 on the 360, as BF MC is just plain terrible in comparison.

Weird. Crysis is a PC game and we are talking about the 360. Oh well, I'll hop in. Here is why I got a 360 instead of upgrading my gf's computer (I technically don't own one)

1. Local multiplayer. Yes, I game with more than one person in my house at times and they don't want to lug a PC over. Shocking, I know.

2. Cost. While PC gaming can be cheap, when you don't have a PC and share your gf's crappy old one, you are looking at having to buy new everything to get in.

3. Sharing. If I had gaming on my PC, I wouldn't be able to game much because I don't live alone and others may need to use the PC from time to time. We own more than one TV, so if the gf needs to watch House while I play Gears, that is possible.

4. Games. As shocking as it may seem to some, Consoles actually get a better mix of games. I can't think of the last time the PC had a decent game that wasn't a shooter, RPG, or RTS. Incidentally, those are a few of my favorite genres, but it isn't everything.

I have absolutely nothing against PC. When our computer finally dumps and we need a new one, I will strongly consider going DX10, Vista, and mad gfx card so that I can play Crysis level AAA PC games. But until PC's allow me to sit on the couch and play co-op guitar hero, Gears, GRAW, R6V, Madden, etc., there is absolutely no way a PC could be my end-all system. Owning only a 360 has been sufficient for me.

You can't walk into a store, and plunk down only $800 for a gaming PC. You have to build it yourself from parts ordered off the internet or from a small OEM store to get that price. Most people are not tech savvy (or just don't have the time) to do this.

Also, I doubt a 3 year old $800 PC will run Crysis very well at all.

rfom doesn't know much about hardware apparently. You can't do a direct comparison of the 360 to the PC. 512 ram on the 360 is not the same as it is on a pc. First off its GDDR3 and a 1.4 Ghz transfer rate for both cpu and gpu. The 360's processor and gpu share it which make it pretty unique on top of that the xeon and xenos can share info and communicate via the cache which is way faster than any RAM available to date and significantly reduces latency in some instances and frees up additional RAM. Also, the OS takes up much less memory than XP or Vista. There are many differences besides the ones I listed.

The gpu in the 360 is mostly based off the R600 architecture and has support for most SM 4.0 features and many DX10 features like unified memory etc. Actually, most of the DX10 features that apply to graphics are in the 360, it's mostly missing things that only apply to the pc. To get equal graphics out of Oblivion on a PC is going to cost you quite a bit more than a xbox. $400 will about cover your gpu and maybe your ram if you use cheap ram and only a gig. You can maybe fit it the total price under a gig. You more than likely going to need an extra power supply if you choose one of the newer DX10 cards because many of those hp and emachines people love to get only come with 300w-350w power supply. A good power supply that has the minimum 24A per 12V rail you need and around 500w costs around $100. You can get cheaper ones but I wouldn't recommend it on such a power hungry system. That's going to run you 4-500 dollar emachine up to around $900 total with at least $400 in upgrades and you going to have to rewire your case and because of the powersupply. Getting into those cases is usually not easy( small and no removable motherboard tray) and not something everyone feels comfortable with. In some cases you actually have to cut out the powersupply because it is inaccessible. Build your own pc is fine but since it's new you have to buy Vista or xp outright unless you have a copy of xp to install first. Vista cost around $200 dollars I believe? That's just for you OS and needed if you want some of the DX10 feature currently available on the 360. You may be able to build a really nice machine for $1000 but I doubt it will play quite as nicely as the 360 version. Remember the 360 has 4AA on all of it's games for free. That is very taxing for GPU's. Also, because the 360 is a closed architecture developers can get more out of it. Even in a similarly speced pc the 360 should outperform it because devs only need to design for on specification. I love pc's and pc gaming but the 360 definitely has it's place in todays gaming world and for it's price is thus unmatched in graphics. You cannot play Gears or Oblivion or Prey on any $300-$400 machine and especially on the level of that the 360 does it at. On top of all this it acts as a media extender. I love watching my media on my HD tv. On top of this the average person isn't going to want to build their own pc. I am going to drop close to $1500 on a new rig once I see the x2900xt benchmarks so I can decide what gpu to go with. I've already got everything ready and on a wishlist at newegg and other various sites saved. It took me several hours to get the parts that suite me perfectly for this particular system (overclocker here). And I know a lot about pc's. For the average person this is daunting. The 360 won't be showing it's age for another 3-4 years is my estimate. It holds a lot of value for what it is and is nice addition to my pc.

You know budget line DX10 cards are coming out, right? And you know budgetlines support SLi too, right? So for cheaper than one top o' da line card (which, incidently, still have ZERO GAMES to test DX10 on), you can get two budget liners and make a Wii... erm, nearly match the performance of a higher end, perhaps even surpass it.

It is too bad I must go Vista for DX10 though. It is a bonehead move by M$. I will most likely do a gaming-only build of Vista just for the DX10 games, using a swappable internal drive.

This game sounds like the equivalent of fucking a hot stupid chick. There is all this excitement when you first meet her because you can't wait to suck on her big ole' melons. But after you shoot your load, you realize there is nothing else left. You can't talk to her because she is fucking stupid. So what else do you do before you get hard and then fuck her again?

What I am saying is, I keep hearing about the graphics and now I will be shitting my pants when I am playing it. Really, it takes more than a fucked up alien to make me shit my drawers. When I first played Guitar Hero....THAT was a game that made me want to shit my pants. It was so new and exhilarating that I could have honestly set forth a river of brown. I just can't see Crysis being like this. I hope I am wrong, but I doubt I am.

Besides, I have a Mac. So I won't be playing this shit anyway.

You can't compare upgrading an already good PC to Crysis gaming levels with buying a 360. Buying a 360 gives you a separate gaming device that can be used at the same time someone else uses the PC. Upgrading a PC is simply adding functionality to something you already had. I have to share our only computer, but we have two TV's. Having a 360 means I can game whenever I want, not just when it works with somebody elses homework schedule.

You PC haters are freaking morons. First, the only version of vista I know of that costs 200 dollars is Ultimate. You can get a home premium upgrade for 80 dollars and use a glitch to get it to fresh install.

So, decent motherboard at 80-120 dollars, Vista at 80, memory at 50, Power supply at 50, HDD for 50, video card at 200, processor for 100-150, dvd burner for 100, KB/mouse for 50, DDL sound card for 75. Assume you're going to hook it up to that badass 1080p TV of yours over VGA or HDMI (through a DVItoHDMI converter) and your existing surround sound, we're talking 835 dollars for DX10, 7.1 surround high quality multi-purpose machine built from the ground up.

You could probably do it in half that depending on how many spare parts you have lying around and how hard you want to bargain shop. On top of that, since you got Vista Home premium it'll function as a nice HTPC as well.

But I still bought a 360 because its got games. PC has WoW. Hooray.

When are PC Haters going to understand that PC gaming is a hobby and much more than just playing games, and yes it might be more expensive than buying an outdated locked machine ie..console, but it has a lot more advantages. You pay for what you get. Period. I would rather have a killer rig over all three of the current gen consoles and for one simple reason, games. Not to mention, I love building and upgrading my rig, it's fun. Ask all the other millions of people that agree.

I have a 360, and the only games worth their salt to me are Guitar Hero and Gears, that's it. This year, the only other games that slightly peak my interest are GTA4 and Mass Effect, that's it. Their are a lot more games that have me excited and that I would much rather play on the PC. Good luck playing UT3 or Quake Wars with a controller, no thanks. These are PC games, dev'd for the PC, being ported to the consoles.

I'm fine with my 24" LCD for gaming, as I use my PC in my office(I also have the option to hook it up to my 50" Sony in the living room). Not to mention, I work for a living , so upgrading isn't an issue, as it shouldn't be for any normal working person. Now, if you're living under mommy and daddy's roof, or are still in college and don't have a job(Which you should), naturally, building or upgrading your rig isn't going to be a top priority, although for under 200 bucks you can get one of those 8600's from NVIDIA(That will run all upcoming games just fine), now if that's not cheap, I don't know what is. So, to add gaming to your existing machine, that will play these games at a decent rate, doesn't cost nearly as much as all of these misconceptions I keep reading here day in and day out. If you are building a whole new rig, yes, it's going to cost money, because you are buying the industries top technology, not 2 year old hardware, although you control your budget, and yes, it does require a human being to use their brain in order to make the best decisions for their wallet. God friggin forbid.

When I was in college, consoles were great for their types of games, and the PC was great for their types of games. Ever since the launch of the 360,consoles have been putting out games that are frankly not suited for them(This has happened in the past, but not at this rate), borrowing many titles that would otherwise be PC only. Take a look at the lineup of games slated for the 360. How many of those games are PC IP's? How many are being dev'd by traditional PC dev's? Alot. Now, we have a bunch of jackasses, wet behind the ears, trying to tell other seasoned gamers, that their console of choice is better than playing on the PC. Do me a favor , take that notion and shove it where the sun don't shine. It's extremely tiring hearing all the bitching and complaining from people, that half the time, spread misinformation, either ignorantly or intentional.

$50 Powersupply is a bad move. Especially with the amps needed for some of these cards. Also, you forgot about a case because that's kind of important. Then everything else you included is bottom of the barrel parts, $50 1gig Ram, MB is doable, $100 processor is definitely going to drop you into the budget processors, maybe snag an e6300 for $150. A $200 DX10 graphics card isn't going to get you stellar graphics. The best you could buy is the 8600GTS and is noticeably slower X1900XTX or 7900GTX so your not going to turn up all the graphics and effects on Crysis unless DX10 turns out to be some miraculous godsend from MS. Tomshardware did some benchmarks of it and ATI's midrange X1950 Pro Ultimate outperformed it and that's based off a year and a half architecture and is a midrange card. Expect to pay at least $1100 for similar performance on multi platform games assuming you get the upgraded version of vista and expect to pay closer to $1500+ for equal to exclusive games for the 360 like lost planet, gears of war and Mass Effect.

Here's a breakdown of what I currently have in my rig, and by the way, looks nicer than my 360:

Althon 64 3700+ =$68 (Newegg.com)
ASUS K8V SE = $63 (computerhq.com)
1 gig Corsair DDR2-667 = $43 (ZipZoomFly)
ATI X1950Pro 512mb AGP = $199 (Newegg.com)
ANTEC P-160 Case= $116 (Nextwarehouse.com)
ANTEC 500w = $68 (Nextwarehouse.com)

Total: $557.00 total

Swap out the P160 case for a $20 Diablotek

Total: $461.00

Oblivion runs smother and looks better on my rig than the 360 version(Especially Draw Distance and Textures). Same with FEAR, BF, COD2, GRAW1, RAINBOW SIX VEGAS, QUAKE4, and DOOM3. There's also no reason why Crysis, Hellgate London, Bioshock, Quake Wars, and UT3 won't look impressive as well. Not only that, I can always through in more ram, or upgrade my video card when I feel it's necessary.

Shawn D,
You don't HAVE to lie to make a point. It actually weakens it. Oh wait, let me hear your elaborate story of why you have played the 360 AND PC versions of FEAR, BF, COD2, GRAW1, RAINBOW SIX VEGAS, QUAKE4, and DOOM3 and Oblivion. You are a liar, obviously. And GRAW1 was considered much better on 360 than PC by most people. A lot of your games are sloppy PC to 360 ports as well that occured long after the PC game was released. And those games don't much better on 80-90% of actual gaming rigs out there, only the very best ones.

The bottom line is that until the PC has a game that looks as good as Gears of War available for purchase at a retailer, you cannot count the 360 gfx as outdated. I mean, Gears is the most visually impressive game ever and owns anything on your precious uber PC. When Crysis drops, it will have that honor. Until then, let console owners enjoy their standard 1-2 years of graphical superiority.

You basically define the term PC elitist. If it weren't for game variety and local multiplayer, I wouldn't own a console and just would have a PC. Lighten up, tool. ;) (I'm trying to piss you off)

Jake, I am in no way "lying" to justify a hobby that knocks the socks off of corporate proprietary closed console boxes. Also, I never said the 360 was outdated, it's just a few year old, that's all.

I have a 360, and Gears looks wonderful on my 3000 dollar TV, and "barely acceptable" on my standard def tv, and I'm sure my uber rig from another planet(GO SOCKET 754!!) can handle it just fine, but it's not available.....yet that is. Second, I have rented many 360 games(There aren't that many) and did so with some of my list, just to see in some cases, how well my rig stood up to the 360(Free Rentals at Blockbuster is a plus when you are a major shareholder..lol), as well as seeing some of my buddies that have those games as well, plus there are demos on XBL. It wasn't hard for me to tell the difference.

I don't see how I'm an "elitist" when I know and realize what the best is baby. I have nothing against people that would rather drive a Hugo, they are nice people too...cough cough...I'm just sick of people acting like the PC is just too expensive, when in reality, if you use your god given brain, you can easily assemble your own for a fraction of the cost.

Bottom Line:
It's a hobby bro, and easily justifiable even with my elitist 500 dollar rig(lol).

Now, go use that peer-to-peer service that MS "doesn't" charge for, and download a "mod" or "free" map pack for your 360, and stop pestering us of the elite culture.

Also, being a socket 754 there is not much of an upgrade path for you rig so when they do want to upgrade to a higher componet, outside of cpu, which you can by a small margin upgrade, they will have to swat out MB, hard drive etc, Memory and GPU to upgrade the system. Oh and you are a liar because socket 754 does not take DDR2 memory so it is impossible for your motherboard to except it. Way to show yourself as a tool and liar. Dumbass.

A $650 middle-of-the-road dell rig will run it with as much or more pretty than any console. But you have the option of getting more, which is pretty useful to some.

It's really easy to over-pay for computer hardware, since everyone wants to sell you their expensive crap. But with a little experience and education, you can save a lot of money too.

But if you think you need to spend over $2000 on a computer, you're doing it wrong.

I'm going nail you again, here's what you said "Here's a breakdown of what I currently have in my rig." If your rig has a dvd rom, hard drive and OS, which you said it does, that it should be on that list and included with price dipshit because you at one point had to pay for them and I or anybody cannot build a rig without those components. So you lied again. I'm only going by what you said so don't get mad at me because you don't know anything.

Oh and your 3DMark06 score is more bullshit than your list unless you are turning running it as 640x480 which I don't even know if you can.

Can't fudge those as it's officially recorded from the program. That's with a overclocked core 2 at 3.33 Ghz, overclocked 1900xtx which will out pace your card and 2 gigs of faster memory. Considering 3d06 takes into account dual and even quadcore your bullshitting me again or running the program at 640x480 because there is no way his score is just a couple hundred higher than yours. Further proof

Same card as yours, about the same speed processor, more memory. He does have 4XAA on but he didn't even get a 3200. I know what I'm talking about so don't try to pull one over on me. Douche. You lie and don't know what your talking about, get over it.

jaysins, sorry but you're being a jackass that's trying to take what I said and stretch it. I built this rig 3+ years ago, that's pretty evident by looking at my hardware. Anyone with half a clue would realize that(This is under PC news, correct?). Nobody was asking me for advice to build a new rig, I was merely stating what it cost me. And to make my point again, it looks and plays nicer than my 360. Period. I enjoy my 360, but not nearly as much as my rig. REMEMBER, MOST PEOPLE JUST HAVE TO ADD GAMING COMPONENTS(THE ONES I LISTED ORIGINALLY) TO THEIR EXISTING SYSTEM. Someone could build(MEANING EXPAND)with my rig components, right NOW for around $500, including an OS and HDD since apparently no one's PC's have them to begin with, and they will be perfectly capable of playing todays games, I also have no doubt that it will also run Crysis and the rest of the titles to come out this year without a problem, just not at blazing fast speeds, but I'm okay with that, as I'm not a graphics whore, if I was, I would have upgraded my rig by now. You want to throw around words like stupid and dumbass, but you don't know me, nor do I want to know you, but if throwing names around is what makes you feel good I have no problem reciprocating. This is a freakin message board about a particular topic discussing shitting our pants, go figure.

I gave my specs as to what I upgraded my machine with. That was the original list, everything else (hdd,os,dvdrom, monitor) are previous investments that I used to carry forward when I built that particular rig(common sense would tell you that an OS and hdd is needed, not to mention a monitor). For instance, when I build my next rig, all I will have to do is buy a Mobo/Ram/GPU/PSU (500w won't cut it nowadays)..., as I already have both Vista and XP, Harddrives, Mice, Keyboards, Speakers, Antec P-150 case, 5.1 surround sound , and my 24" LCD. It's the beauty of upgrading your rig, once your set, you don't need to rebuy many things, thus saving additional money.

Should I have included a mouse pad for you too?? The point of upgrading is dependent on the person, as it goes by each individual, and what they have and need. Most people have hdd's from previous PC's, and most people already have a copy of an OS and a monitor.

You're a typical argumentative person and it shows. The whole point of the conversation before you graced us with your presence, was that it doesn't cost much at all to have a decent gaming machine, especially if you shop wisely(REMEMBER, MOST PEOPLE JUST HAVE TO ADD GAMING COMPONENTS TO THEIR EXISTING SYSTEMS, THAT INLCUDES THE ORIGINAL LIST I GAVE TO BEGIN WITH). I proved it, yet you are nit picking, and attempting to be a complete asshole. No ones trying to pull anything over anyone's eyes, douche.

Anyone who knows anything about 3DMARK is that it's a general synthetic guage of a system, actual FPS in-game is much more reliable in testing a system, but settings can vary all over the place(AA, AF, Resolution, etc..etc..)

The last I scored on 3Dmark06 was close to 6000(5780 if I'm not mistaken), including overclocking my processor and using ATItool. I ran the test at 1024x768 using the OMEGA drivers.

I've been building PC's since the mid-90's and I do it for a living. There is absolutely no benefit in lying, but you obviously underestimate what a PC can do. Your angle in unclear to me, as you are bitter about something. But, that's not for me to decide.

I frankly don't care if you don't believe me, it's not your rig, so why don't you make yourself a warm glass of shut the fuck up, as your comments are boring me.

Go cry somewhere else. By being argumentative, you mean why did I have to call you out? It doesn't matter if they are past investments as they are currently in your rig and should be on your list, as you stated were of things in your rig, not what it cost you. It's not my fault your not able to correctly and accurately word your sentences. That makes what you said untrue, otherwise known as a lie. Maybe you should learn how to word your sentences to not make yourself seem so misinformed. The memory spec was way off, your components were off and your score way off based on what I know of the test. I called you out on BS, I was right and get over it. I'm done with this argument and the only reason I took it this far is because I hate it when people try to lie and pass themselves off as knowledgeable or know what they are talking about. There are people that don't know a lot about PC's or pc components and they don't need people like you spreading false information. And messing up those ram specs is big mistake. A mobo that supports DDR2 is two generations ahead of yours. I don't think you would have made that mistake if you had this magical 3 year old rig that scores so highly in 3dmark06. That's not mistake someone who has been working on computers, like you have apparently, make. Your story doesn't add up and I have discredited you on this subject. Oh well, move on.

whatever jaysins, if you feel as though you saved the world because I misspoke about my ram module, than you go right ahead and feel good about yourself. Lying is intentionally misleading someone, which I haven't done. The fact of the matter is, if you took my components I listed, put them into a PC, you will get decent gaming out of it for a low price. End of story. Oh, and if you are obviously oblivious when it comes to overclocking a PC,otherwise, you would understand my how I achieved my score, but this is nothing but a waste of time at this point. What a complete waste of fucking time.
