Fake: Excite Truck 2 multiplayer mode with Mii display revealed

Update 4/25 10:50am: Despite appearing on GamesPress this morning (now conveniently missing) and still being mirrored publicly at GamesIndustry.biz, it looks like this strange, terse announcement (and it's accompanying screenshots) for Excite Truck 2 is ... a fake. We've asked Nintendo for a comment on the "announcement." The original post is saved after the break. 11:25am: CVG says, "Nintendo has confirmed [the announcement] to be fake."

After Excite Truck's disappointing lack of online multiplayer (not to mention four-person local multiplayer!), we're heartened to read this terse press release from Nintendo of Canada heralding the sequel's online multiplayer mode. The deets: up to 6 players with accompanying Mii display (see pic) and the beloved Nintendo friend code system (yay!). As if that wasn't already enough information, Nintendo really got particular promising "a lot of options," "a bunch of new tracks," and "better visual effects and shadows!" We tease, of course. We're really excited to see Nintendo implementing multiplayer on the Wii (friend codes be damned!) and the Mii display is a nice touch. Oh, and one of those "new tracks" is the Moon. With low gravity.

I have to agree. The grammar and spelling is atrocious for an official press release, and the screenshot is so terrible I cannot tell what it's even supposed to be.

Wow joystiq, about a day late and a dollar short on this one. This already ran through the rumor/is it real?/nope its a fake mill long before you even posted it. Get on the ball boys, get on the ball.

Seriously, they are going up against 2nd gen. PS3 and 3rd gen. 360 games.. they need to bump the graphics up a few notches now that the wiimote-as-steering-wheel aint so innovative the second time around.

OMG Excite Truck!!!!!! This game is the best racer out there. Excite Truck2 will be on par with Forza2, GT4, Dirt and PGR4. lol

I can almost see the thoughts of the kid who wrote up this press release. It almost reminds me of a guy who's totally drunk and thinks he can pass for sober:

Apologies! We understood the press release was strange -- we noted as much in our post -- but (erroneously) assumed that appearing on GamesPress lent it some validity it didn't deserve.

Is this going to be shipped in a bundle with DJ Max 2 DS?

They need to make this game over, except:

1. Make it with motorcycles instead of trucks
2. Make the nunchuck analog steer and the wiimote lean/tight turns/lean back for wheelies
3. Make it side scrolling
4. reduce graphics to 8-bit with 4 lanes of traffic

Excite Truck is amazing.

Seriously, it is the best racing game I have played since Mario Kart.

The control scheme is amazing, the game is so fast, the graphics are nice in one player mode, the tracks are superbly designed, the boost is cool, and the whole is so so much fun.

So much better than the oh so slow and dull GT4, Forzas and PGRs of this world.

God some people just don't know how to have fun.

An Excite Truck with more tracks, 4 player, online, and more trucks would be amazing.

Excite Truck is only a fun game for about 45 min because of lack of substance.

Jack do you have to make reminders because you keep forgetting you're not supposed to have fun with ExciteTruck but get into the habit anyways? ;p

I do think it needs more stunts, like Barrel Rolls.

Just got it this weekend (Excite Truck) and it's a fun game to play to kill some time. Loving the whole Wii experience.

I take it you haven't got S-Class on every track in Super Excite mode and Mirror mode then.

Excite Truck is about mastering the game and the levels, not constantly throwing dull new tracks at you.

The game is about the gameplay, not the features. Like the great games of the past. Y'know before M$ messed it all up?

MS messed up? lol you stick with your boring ass games like cooking mama, warioware and excite truck while I play Turok, Eternal Sonata, RE5(not the cheap port), Banjoe Kanzooie, FF, Lair, MGS.

Excite Truck Records: 1800 degree Air Spin (beat that).
Some ridiculous number for Air height (couldn't see track below was so high up).

Anyhow, shame it's fake. Moon racing in Excite Trike would be awesome.

I thought that Excite truck was the best launch title for the Wii (not including Wii Sports). The control is tight and the game is fast and chaotic with lots of tracks. The only thing that really hurt it was the fact that the only multiplayer mode was 2 player with no other cars. If they fix that, add online, and tweak everything else a bit it could be a great arcade racer.
