Tomb Raider: Anniversary set for June 5th (don't forget!)
Those longing to don a pair of unreasonably tight pants, shoot up ancestral tombs and mow down innocent bears (without getting arrested) would be wise to circle the date of June 5th, 2007 on their official Rhona Mitra calendars. This day marks the release of Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary, a Crystal Dynamics remake of the adventure that put the grave-robbing heroine on the map, the coffee mug, the magazine cover and the unfortunate t-shirt which proclaimed, "I raided Lara's tomb." Hearkening to a time (1996!) when Tomb Raider regularly induced drool as opposed to debilitating nausea, Anniversary sees reworked puzzles, improved controls and enhanced graphics injected into one of the greatest games of all time. Play it on your PS2, PC or PSP while you wait for a sequel to last year's surprisingly superb Tomb Raider: Legend to arrive -- and don't forget to do a graceful swan dive straight into a boulder. That's always good for a laugh.

Hahaha yeah, that's always pretty funny. Dive, Walrus Croft, dive!

People still play this crap? I thought it got old after the Nude Raider mod 10 years ago. That was the whole point of the game right? Breasts?
Simon @ Apr 25th 2007 5:12PM
Tomb Raider Legend was vastly better than I thought it would be - although, having never really played through most of the other games in the series I don't have much to compare it to. I'll probably get this, seeing as the same team are developing it.

Try to stop me!

This game and Halo are in the same category: so so overrated games.
Jake @ Apr 25th 2007 5:31PM
Leave it to Fernando to somehow compare it to Halo so he/she can get some attention. The last Tomb Raider wasn't very highly rated. Basically, it was considered so so; I don't understand how you care calling it over-rated unless you are rating it higher than most.
The last Halo was considered great by virtually every reputable critic that rated it. It doesn't mean that some people won't really like it. But to call a game that has sold that many copies and continues to be played by that many people years later "over-rated" is just ignorant.
I don't enjoy Counterstrike or Halo multiplayer, but I'm not enough of a dumbass to call either one over-rated. I don't absolutely love Halo because I'm not a big fan of run n gun multiplayer. You don't like it because you hate everything on xbox. To each their own.

@ Rubang
//And NOW we can we see breasts at a higher polygon count! Nude Raider Mod 2K7 here I come!//
Brian @ Apr 25th 2007 5:43PM
Rubang B: In fact the first tomb raider was the opposite of the old playboy joke, the breasts were just a nice little something extra added to well designed levels, tight controls (with a good camera system that would inspire tons of clones and popularize 3rd person games across all systems). Id tell you to pick up a copy, but your prolly just gonna wait for the new version, with 200% more jiggle!

It's sad that every Raider game after TR2 sucked so much.
I have to say I can't wait to see new graphics. It took me 5 months to beat the third level of this game. I finally figured out that jagged, vibrating texture on the far, dark wall was an edge you could climb. I beat the next 4 areas in 2 days.
I just was so pissed that I couldn't beat a puzzle because I couldn't see there WAS one.
Zant @ Apr 25th 2007 5:57PM
wow, people still play this crap...
Alex @ Apr 25th 2007 6:29PM
I'm just waiting for the nude mod to be added to the movies.
jaysins @ Apr 25th 2007 8:21PM
The original tomb raider is one of my favorite games of all time. I was maybe 11 I think when I first played it and the music and environment would always creep me out. Would definitely play an updated version of the game.
MMAN @ Apr 25th 2007 8:46PM
@Rubang B: Hateboys are bad enough, but you've gone far beyond that. If your hatred is so irrevocable why don't you just stay away rather than post garbage?
@Zant: I would put you with Rubang, but you at least had the decency to not randomly put in some sexist comment.
@Fernando: I really hope you were talking about Legend and not the original, otherwise you show a frightening lack of knowledge of gaming history.
At best, Halo expanded on what was already there. Tomb Raider 1 invented the basic mechanics of almost every story-based third person 3d game in existence, and some of the mechanics it established are still in use today. There isn't even the slightest grounding for calling the original overrated for it time of release.
Anyway, AE shaping up very well so far and it seems like CD have tried to address almost every issue Legend had. So hopefully this will be the definitive TR.

Actually the site says Available in stores in May 2007
http://www.tombraider.com/anniversary/
Wish it would be available for XBox360
and/or Mac OS X though... :-(
Mr Khan @ Apr 25th 2007 9:32PM
Rubang just disagrees with the game, and Fernando's just a pro-Nintendo troll (as i've surmised)
Tomb Raider followed soon after Super Mario 64, taking the concept of tightly controlled 3D play that was actually viable, then applying that for the Adventure genre
people need to give credit where credit is due, now
i didn't enjoy the original, but i did like II and legends, but that's just me...
Rubang B @ Apr 25th 2007 9:38PM
Hey hey what I said wasn't sexist. I was saying the game was sexist. I thought the only reason people played it was for the breasts. That's not why I played the game. I didn't even like it.
Pete @ Apr 26th 2007 12:20AM
Tomb Raider 1 and 2 were not crap. They were both brilliantly designed games, but let's just talk about the original. The level design, art direction, atmosphere and timed music surpassed everything before it. That game blew my mind when it came out, along with everyone else's at the time. How about a 93% on gamerankings. I just can't respect any gamer that says Tomb Raider is shit. Sure, now you can look back and make fun of the clunky controls, but in a time before analog sticks that control scheme worked in a real 3D world, and worked just fine I might add. Pay some fucking respect to Tomb Raider. It was the first fully 3D adventure game, and it was BEFORE Mario.
That said, playing a revamped version of the original with the play mechanics of today's controls? SIGN ME UP. God I hope they keep the same environments and awesome music. I just wish it was 360-bound.
Pete @ Apr 26th 2007 12:24AM
My bad, Mario 64 beat it to market by 2 months, but there were no analog sticks before Nintendo 64.
MMAN @ Apr 26th 2007 8:31AM
"Hey hey what I said wasn't sexist. I was saying the game was sexist. I thought the only reason people played it was for the breasts."
Which is why your comment is sexist; in a negative context you very much imply there is something wrong with a game having a female main character. Especially since there is far more to the original game than that (admittedly you would have a point if you were talking about TR5; the point where the Core games pretty much did become Lara).
scott @ Apr 26th 2007 2:56PM
like location in real estate, to me the most important part of an action adventure game is level design, level design, level design. this was one of the greatest games ever because of that, and I can't wait to play the remastered version! I hope it shows up in may...
Mark T @ Jun 1st 2007 7:47AM
I made a nude patch for tomb raider legend, going to try to make one for anniversary, crystal dynamics games are way way better than core designs, i played angel of darkness and had to uninstall the game cause the controls blew ass hole so much.
those dumbasses say "theres no nude patch for legend" hell they tried to eliminate all nude patches , but they cant get rid of foriegn websites.
if i was you people look up nude raider patches on foreign sites, or find the modding / skinning tools and make your own :)
audax rider @ Jun 20th 2007 1:35PM
Tomb raider one, was great!!.
Mainly because it was at the being of the age of "3d gaming" And it was then ahead of its time. Sadly
the game engine did not stay out it front and soon supersede by others. Tomb raider has now a great looking graphics but where is the auto stop( as she ran in to walls she would stop) that came with the earlier version . Also the animals are all thick .
myName @ Jul 3rd 2007 3:19PM
This game has awesome graphics and still doesn't require a $600 video card... I'm going to invest my money into the stock market instead of a piece of crap xbox 360. Halo sucks... just because you get a shield that regenerates (talk about overrated FPS) ... big whoop.
