PlayStation 3 Home Beta invites sent out (we didn't get one either)

With this morning's PlayStation Eye announcement, we just thought of approximately thirteen other things we want to do in Home ... but enough about that. You want to know when that Home Beta Trial is going to start. We have good news and bad news: the bad news is, the Beta Trial page still asks us to keep checking back to register; the good news is that some users (seems to be PlayStation Gamer Advisory Panel members only for now) have been asked to sign up for the Home Beta test via an email invitation.

There are some restrictions -- 18 or older, US or Canadian resident, PS3 owner -- but we're sure that folks are tripping over themselves to find out how they can get this elusive invite. From our vantage point, just wait. They announced a large scale public beta would begin this April before the product is released in the Fall. Limiting the beta to GAP members is hardly large scale, right?

I got my Beta invite yesterday. Sent em a tip as well. Personally, I think the G.A.P. test is the initial run before it becomes a more public Beta. If you read the restrictions, Sony has a hell of a lot of info in regards to user created content and harrassment limitations.

That's because you guys broke the word about Home before Sony's GDC conference.

hmmm I am in GAP and I didnt get an invite but I dont have a PS3 either.....they probably only sent it to GAP members who registered their PS3's...Oh Well hope its good!

LOL, I'm in GAP too and I don't own ANY Sony console, and it will stay that way. Funny thing is the GAP agreement says you have to be an active member, and I haven't done shit for over a year, yet I'm still in it.

Man I can't wait to play house, run Folding@home, watch movies and mess around with Linux when the price drops on this ass kicking video game console!

Uh, this may come as a shocker to you, so brace yourself. Kids are incredibly annoying online when you are an adult. They have stupid jokes that aren't funny, bitch too much, sing to themselves and make retarded noises and won't shut up even though everybody is telling them to, talk to themselves, and have screechy voices.

That is likely what Sheppy is getting at. I honestly would like online gaming twice as much if there was a way to separate those under 18 from those over. Don't get me wrong, a lot of kids are very decent. But most of the time it just doesn't work out that way.

As for Sony, they need to avoid legal issues with mixing adults and children in a strangers socializing setting.

Oh yeah, the one that's upgrading soon to allow text chat to go with it's current voice chat and cam chats. The one that's expanding it's video codec playback, interfaces with Media Center PCs, has a video store featuring all the latest TV shows, and even allows people up upgrade to HD-DVD playback?

I got my invite last night, so am playing the waiting game. Funnily enough, I've had my PS3 for just over a month, but only just registered it on the Sony Website Tuesday afternoon. Been a member of the GAP since the late '90s.

I've been in the Gamer Advisory Panel for 4 years.
I'm over 18, and my PS3 is registered.

I did not get a Home beta email invite.

I got my Home invite and I just recently made it into GAP. I bought my PS3 and PSP within 3 months of each other. I then went and bought about 15 games between all 3 (I also own PS2) of my Sony consoles. I would have been pissed if Sony didn't send me the beta invite. Oh and I was stoked when I got the t-shirt too.

I got my invite today. Finally being part of GAP paid off. But you have to know 1 thing that wasn't said. Even if you got the invitation, it doesn't mean that you are in the beta. Upon agreeing on the rules, it said that if you are accepted in the beta you will be notified by email. Also, those who will be in the beta will not be allowed to tell joystiq any of the details.

Josh, nobody seems to know why some of us in GAP got em while others didn't. Maybe they will be sending out another round of invites for it.

Don't worry about Boss Tempo, he is just upset that he could never get a steady career going in the Sims so he couldn't decorate his house. Now he is going to miss out on his chance again because he is sitting on his couch waiting for the Halo 3 beta to begin (how else can you explain his posting to PS3 news instead of playing his 360?)

Sony seems to be very select on who INSIDE the G.A.P. they're inviting. Even some GAP PS3 owners are getting the shaft (a friend of mine, a fellow GAP/PS3 owner, didn't get the invite). Strange.

It could be geographical location...it's definitely not length of service or loyalty. I've been in the GAP for less than a year and have only posted a few stories here and there. This would be my first beta as a GAP if I get in. Until they announce the participants, I'll keep my fingers crossed. Home looks very intriguing.

You'll find a lot of those problems just go away when you either: A: have the TV on Mute or B: Play an online game without VoIP...

The age limitation does suck. I'm 17 years old and turn 18 in August and I can't test the beta because sony doesn't considers someone 17 years old enough to test a social virtual space. I'll unfortunately have to wait til the real home will be released. On the other side there was no such requirement for the halo beta which show much more mature content than this. I really wanted to test home.
