Sony Computer Entertainment of America announced today that the PlayStation camera may not be HD, but it hasn't fallen by the wayside either. Sony's little camera is growing up, dropping "toy" from its moniker, adding a built-in microphone and asking to be called just "Eye" when it comes out this summer. The camera's specs have been improved too, shooting 640 x 480 at 60 frames/second or 320 x 240 at 120 frames/second. Delicious.
The camera will be bundled with the EyeCreate editing software which will allow you to edit video, photos and audio clips add visual effects and then save them to the hard drive. You'll also be able to use different capturing modes like slow-mo and time lapse. What we currently don't know is exactly what this technological wonder will cost you, or exactly when we'll be able to start pointing it at our crotches. Hit the release for more details, or the higher-res pic in the gallery.

"Shep, it's because people don't like you and you're a hypocrite.
For example, you moan that people who use "gay" for derogatory comments are idiots, but then you retort with a gay stepfather innuendo."
I think you missed the point. My bash was indicating a pedophile rapist stepfather, not particularly a gay one. There is a difference.

Vidikron,
When you are talking about the public or casual gamer who are not tech specific. many can not stand the Black Bars on widescreen movies on an SDTV. Many can't stand the black bars on the sides of the screen when watching SDTV on HDTV. Yet many will put up with mosquitting and artificating.
Here is the thing and it isn't that hard. I think Sony would of faired best if the made the camera 720x480 or 480P widescreen and 640x480. Those eliminating the need for black bars. It is after all designed primarily for usage with HDTV and it is a poor oversight.
Many people can't really tell the difference between 480P and 720P it is a noticeable difference when next to each other and some more hardcore gamers and videophiles will kwno for sure and very easily. But if you put Joe Schmo in front of a EDTV and have them play a game they will think it is HD.

I like it, as far one could "like it" if webcams were something to really like...
Plus it has 5 rotating blades for extra smooth shaves!
But I do want to give it up to WackyChan for the 'Fishbone' reference...

@Sheppy
I can understand why people have a distaste for the use of the word gay as a derogatory statement, but I doubt it is going to change anytime soon. The use of gay as a derogatory statement stems from the word queer. So gay == queer now.
Ontopic: I think this will prove to be a nice little webcam, hopefully they won't price it too expensive. In comparison, The Xbox Vision is a 640x480@30fps camera. I don't know what it's rate at 320x240 is though.
