Rumor: Crimson Skies sequel incoming
OXM's April issue has an article entitled "The 5 Biggest Games Coming to Xbox 360 That 'The Man' Doesn't Want You to Know About Yet" that has some interesting tidbits about Crimson Skies. Apparently a sharp-eyed reader (or sly tip-off artist) noticed that the company website for Airtight Games lists a lot of ex-Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge developers on their site in the bio section, and they are pretty upfront about touting the fact that they are working on a major, unannounced game.
Couple that with some of their PhysX demonstration videos, and it looks like they're probably working on a sequel to High Road to Revenge. Although the Xbox title didn't sell too well, we had tons of fun playing both the single-player and online multiplayer versions of this. The whole alternate history of the United States and the swashbuckling attitude made it fun, and those flying physics were pretty darn cool, even way back then in, er ... 2003.

I'm sure someone will beat me to this, but wouldn't that be Crimson Skies....3?
maylon @ Apr 27th 2007 5:44PM
Oh, yeah. The PC version. Hoozah, another pc vs. console argument.
Gavin @ Apr 27th 2007 5:44PM
Crimson Skies was one of my favorite XBox exclusives, so I'd be mighty damn interested in seeing this come to fruition. I never got into the online aspect of it, but that would sure be pretty damn sweet on the 360 if it can handle a bunch of players at the same time.
OhJustSomeRandomGuy @ Apr 27th 2007 5:46PM
Strike Man: You are correct, it would indeed be Crimson Skies 3.
And if you are a developer of said game, and reading this. Please, please, PLEASE return to the original Crimson Skies gameplay. No "hover around inside of a collapsing underground base missions". More fast-paced air combat, more airplane/loadout customizability, and we'll buy this in droves.

Hey, that's my CS WMP skin you're illustrating the article with - awesome!
Back on topic, I loved Crimson Skies on the Xbox... I'd love to see a sequel on the 360. There really aren't enough truly awesome flight combat games around - let's hope Factor5 announces a Rogue Squadron title for the PS3, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

Believe it or not, Crimson Skies took the place of Halo for quite awhile when I had 15 or so friends over, it had so many cool moments in multiplayer, like when one of my team was carrying the flag on his way to score on the Chicago map, a bulldog hot on his tail, he yells for help and I dive into the trench and let the missles fly from my Devastator and take it out. Come to think of it, I enjoyed it more than Halo.

Screw that...I want rallisport challenge 3 and midtown madness 4!

Come on, Joystiq. You're a popular blog. Don't link directly to large files on other people's servers. Give them the courtesy of linking to one of their pages or hosting it yourself.

Both versions are effing fun. But I personnally prefer the PC version, mostly due to voice acting and the pre-flight briefings.
Moleverine @ Apr 27th 2007 7:38PM
I don't own a 360 right now, but I loved the previous game so much that I'd think about buying one specifically for this game.

Without a doubt, Crimson Skies on the Xbox was one of my favorites due to the fun factor. I didn't want to get my hopes up when this sequel was initially mentioned is the April issue of OXM in case it was a prank, but now that it seems real I can't wait to see how it turns out.

About @&^!in' time!
"No "hover around inside of a collapsing underground base missions".
I agree 100%. That was the only thing I disliked about Crimson Skies. The blatant Death Star wannabe areas, flying through volcanos and ancient ruins.
hiredgoon @ Apr 27th 2007 10:48PM
Crimson Skies 3 - that (to me) is more exciting than Halo3! I never played the original but V2 on the XBox was a great single player game and was an easier introduction to the world of online multiplayer for most of my friends.
It is singularly (apart from tetris and bejeweled) the most replayed game i've ever had. Oh please god let Airtight Games, please be developing a new Crimson Skies title.
"take these broken wings and learn to fly again" - ah Nathan you lovable rogue...
cidol @ Apr 28th 2007 2:52AM
AirTight Studios is not working on anything related to Crimson Skies.
Korova @ Apr 28th 2007 8:55AM
If they arent they should, cause they are leaving money on the table.
That game truly was one of the most fun xbox 1 games. It was very well done. even if they repackage it for 360 itll sell.
I vote for CS3 and Rallysports Challenge 3.
gamersvoice07 @ Apr 28th 2007 9:42AM
Airtight Games could not make a Crimson Skies game because the franchise is owned by FASA Studio!!!
Ted @ May 2nd 2007 12:16AM
Actually, MS owns the name. They bought it from FASA along with MechWarrior before FASA went belly up (I think they've come back with their Shadowrun line, but the company is vastly changed). MS gave permission to WizKids to produce the toys (a miniature-based flying game that is a good time) to coincide with the XBox release. Since then, WizKids has been bought by Topps and the CS line of toys was dropped.
If Airtight is making a new CS gamed for the 360, then I'd buy it. I'm enamored with that particular near-reality universe! The original XBox version is a hoot as is the PC version (which is a totally different game than its console counterpart).
_WSLP_STONEDGP @ May 4th 2007 6:26AM
If you (Microsoft) only knew how many times that I and my friends have said "we wish there were a combat flight/dogfight sim"! In other words.."Crimson skies 2 for PC. There is a huge community out there that is very dedicated to Crimson. Please make this for PC!
NebularFyre @ May 19th 2007 2:58PM
Loved both C-Skies, played xbox versionover 2yrs online and in fact was just playing the pc version when i decided to check a roumor i'd heard about 3. I WANT C-CKIES 3!!!
Trashyduck @ Jul 8th 2007 5:57PM
For goodness sakes, somebody, anybody, make a new Crimson Skies (or lookalike for all I care if some Megahard company hogs the rights) for PC please. It can be the same as before but please, PLEASE, include AI in multiplayer mode. Like the bots in Counter Strike for example. Put my name down for investment shares if necessary. In fact, let's just form a cooperative to get this baby rolling, why not? - PS: Ducks will rule anytime if pigs fly ;)
RudderDuck @ Jul 9th 2007 3:09PM
Amen to that Trashy. This got me all eggcited now or should I say 'all hot and bothered'? The videos already ooze fun, let's hope they push through and come up with a game along the lines of the original Crimson Skies - tons of fun - not too realistic - not too much arcade style - having more of those wacky planes! Why not add a steampowered plane :) Talking about wacky stuff: some follow up to those fabulous beepers and seekers, sonics (then again, maybe not those), chokers, goah, memories! Put me down for some shares too and if the developers need an extra hand or wing: I can boil a mean egg (did I really type that?).
