Am I the Only one that's noticed that the PS2 outsold the PS3? That aint good at all.

There isn't much to really say anymore about the PS3 is there? I know interest has been going up but the thing is crashing. I'd prefer Sony over Microsoft anyday but they did this to themselves with their attitude.

It's one thing to lose money on every console sold, but an entirely different thing to have that console bomb. If people think Sony will just throw money into this console blindly I am not so sure. When Microsoft played (still playing) this game they probably were a lot more accurate on their predictions of how their consoles would do and sell. I don't think anyone in Sony would have predicted it would bomb this bad. Because if anyone did, the shareholders would never allow it to happen.

Which is what it might come down to. What are the risks of sticking with this machine? Does it look like sales will be picking up?

Cause Japan sale's figures come out weekly and are free to everyone. US only comes out once a month. I've never seen European numbers.

The difference is that both PS and PS2 had no strong competition.
For PS - Saturn was a big mistake (surprise launch, poor third-party support, Sega stopped support early), and Nintendo made many missteps with N64 (expensive Game Paks, poor third-party support)

For PS2 - Dreamcast support was fading as PS2 was approaching, and then dropped out the game. PS2 was the only "next-gen" system for about a year. GameCube and Xbox, while both sold okay (21.59 million and 24 million respectively), were well undersold compared to PS2.

PS3 is not in the same situation. 360 has been out for a year before PS3 (and unlike Dreamcast, it has a strong userbase in North America and Europe), and the Wii launched worldwide, while PS3 was delayed for Europe and Oceania. Not to mention, Wii keeps outselling every time it's in stock (in most retailers, at least).

PS3 is in a very different situation from PS and PS2, and cannot afford to slouch if Sony wants to stay on top.

Why do I keep referring to Wii? Simple: It's printing money for Nintendo. In all regions, it outsells the competition.

You can make all the excuses you want for Wii's current success (price, "fad gimmick," etc.), but were things to be the other way around (PS3 outselling Wii), people would lash out at the Wii as being a failure.

Not true.
1) Should any one component of the Wii be in demand (IEEE 802.11 wireless card, flash memory, self-adjusting optical drive, IBM's Broadway CPU, etc.) this limits how many complete units they can make (and no, they can't salvage GameCubes for parts [rolls eyes at fanboyish slander]).
2) Even if they have enough supplies, the factories can only produce so many. Nintendo COULD open more factories to build Wiis, though. How cheap they are to build doesn't alter how fast they can be produced.

Limit supply? Funny, because even if they're purposely limiting supply (a HUGE if), they still manage to outsell PS3s and 360s, which are widely available.
